The best way to do it is with a Dremel tool with the small sander wheel.  I'll try and remember to take a picture of mine when I get home from work.  It's real easy if you keep it on a slowish setting so that you don't burn through the dropout fast.

This. Like he said, slow is key.

bmx dropouts aren't hard to file and .1" is fuck all. if you have the gear go ahead but files from a discount shop will do the job

edit - don't get me wrong if i was at work i'd be using a die grinder/rotary bit. i'm just saying its easy to do with the basics and the lad would make a mess with an angle grinder by the sound of it

GUMP_:
Sort of thread related. If some one had a set of 10mm dropout forks and wanted to run a 14mm axle hub. When filing the drop out besides opening it front to back would you also have to deepen the axle slot?

weedbix:
You'd want to yeah, else the peg/washer/nut/whatever isn't going to have as much to grip/support the axle

Geo would be altered if you didn't too but I wouldn't worry as much

.1"x4 is fuk all but doing x4 is a pain in the arse

angle grinder going slow is where it's at. grind, stop, check. repeat
