I think the chain should come with a spare master link anyway.

No I think the chain should come with a spare (an other) master link.

What are you talking about 2 half links for?

And yes I understand the principal of this chain.

how many chains can you name that come with two master links? let alone 2 halflinks.

it's a more expensive chain due to the new design, and the tooling and probably more costs that G or someone else mentioned. The first halflink chains also didn't have any other features apart from being different and innovative.
They were also real expensive and didn't come with ANY link. The plates weren't even connected, little rollers everywhere.

The odyssey chain seems very well designed and i don't think that we would need more master links than they supply.

If we do, then just like with any other chain, we turn to the bike shop and get ourselves a new master link. Or if we're that paranoid, we might just order them in advance along with the chain.

edit: or ditch masterlinks lol

Extra masterlinks will be available separately. I also want to do a little kit with a master link and a 3mm hex key you can put on your keyring like this:-

I recently paid $32 for a 510 chain because the shops here are retarded...  won't mind the price on this one, but I'll wait a few months on it

Yeah what is with some shops.
Our LBS sells the cult 410 for $28 and the 510 for $35 but a kmc 510 for $20.

well cult is "in" so they can charge more and still have people buy it up like crazy. supply and demand son

and local shops just cannot compete with online pricing, especially on small parts and components - they would be loosing money faster than you can flush it down the toilet. they have to make their money somehow, and the best way is by marking up wear-and-tear items like chains, cables, tires etc

Breaking it wasn't the epic ass beating I expected.

I hope this doesn't mean you broke it in one day?

Judging by the video odyssey posted about the assembly of the chain, you shouldn't need more force than usual :)

Yeah, as in made it the correct length.

And just to clarify, I suck at chains. Every time I have to push a pin its usually world war three.

This chain was not that.  It was pretty easy.

Now that I've rode it a bit, it does seem a bit loud and not as smooth as my usual bluebird.

Your sprockets are probably a little worn to match the stretch in your old chain.

Bought a new sprocket for this reason alone. Will post my experience soon.
