Bike Gallery / I bought a bike for my birthday
« on: June 10, 2020, 12:35:57 PM »
I bought this Fit TRL and have been going back to basics. Having a blast, did not realize 21" frames feel amazing. Obviously I changed a few bits though.

The Bike Shop / converting bike with gears to single speed?
« on: July 26, 2019, 09:05:36 AM »
Does anyone have any experience doing this? I got some free bikes, but the rear shifter doesn't work properly on either bike. Could I just remove all shifters/derailers and shorten the chain, or is getting a new rear wheel absolutely mandatory for safety reasons? These are wal-mart grade bikes that will only see leisurely neighborhood cruises, nothing long distance. (less than 5 miles a day). One bike would have a little trailer my kids could sit in.

Bike Gallery / scored a free bike
« on: March 11, 2019, 10:43:44 AM »
So I got this bike for free, slowly going to fix it up with spare parts. Trying my best to keep it as cheap as possible lol.

DK Opsis complete with shadow sprocket and chain. St Martin bars. Odyssey black widow cranks. Eastern pedals, revenge front wheel, khe coaster to old hazard rim and bald primo and tioga tires.

Changed the tires, bike is really colorful now. I replaced the st Martin bars with these Merritt bars but will get some smaller 2pc bars soon. Gyro and front brakes coming soon. I took the front brake that was originally on this bike and put it on my main bike. It's a suelo front brake, best front brakes ever!

The Bike Shop / tire pressure question
« on: September 25, 2018, 04:19:57 PM »
I want to experiment with some fit TA tires i got (got a fit complete dirt cheap) but the pressure rating is 65 psi. How high can I go without blowing up the tire? Think 90-100 psi will be ok or nah?

The Lounge / CNN Blackmail

What do you guys think about this "meme war" CNN started? If you didn't see it, basically Trump retweeted a anti CNN meme and CNN identified the meme creator and threatened to expose him, causing an explosionof Trump vs CNN memes

The Lounge / Debt/Credit Score/Budgeting
« on: August 02, 2016, 02:43:01 PM »
Hey Bikeguide, I thought we could discuss the one thing that plagues us all.....debt. Maybe we can give each other tricks and tips?

I'm about $1200 in debt via credit cards. I really want to pay them off ASAP, but with bills I'm lucky to pay off $100 here and there. Is getting a personal loan to pay all my cards off in one sweep worth it? Will this negatively affect my credit? Or help it? Or would you say I'm better off chugging along slowly but surely as I am now? I make about $2600 a month and pay about $2300 in rent, car notes, etc...

My wife makes about the same as I do, but her credit score is in the lower 600's. We're using her paychecks for the baby (due Oct 15, woo) and food/groceries/gas.

As is we're making ends meets but living check to check. This is one thing I REALLY want to get out of.

My credit score is in the mid 600 range and my goal by 2018 is to have as close as perfect score as possible and buy a house. (I was trying to buy a house this year but my credit was short a few points and I couldn't make the down payment)

Sell and Swap / cassette wheel, condor frame
« on: July 29, 2015, 09:16:00 PM »
Email me for pictures, aaortiz90@yahoo.com

Blue 9t monster hub laced to a eastern silver rim. Hub is brand new, you can tell brakes have been used on the rim though. 60 bucks? Or whatever you think is fair.

Hoffman condorframe, not sure of year but looks good. American bb, standard headset. 19m bb included. I'll throw in the 14mm forks with 990 mounts and a odyssey hazard front wheel. Hub spins smooth, rim is peeling away and ugly. Idk what to ask so just over what you think is fair.

The Bike Shop / shadow freecoaster axle
« on: February 17, 2015, 09:45:21 AM »
I want to run my St.Martin AJ frame, that has 3/8ths drop outs. My shadow wheel is 14mm. I see Federal and primo have female axles that use 3/8ths bolts. I know they have a 14mm lip that goes into the drop out and I know that little lip can be cut off to work with my frame.

The question now is, can the federal or primo axle fit in my shadow hub? Both say KHE style, but looking at pictures online shows the axles look slightly different. And like you, I'd hate to buy something then find out it isn't compatible. Thanks!
