Christ, it's been a while. As a shit-scared (and shit-haired) 19 year old, I remember this place and you lot literally being a coping mechanism when I found out about my ex getting pregnant. It amazes me how much comfort can be sound from so-called strangers.

Nine years later, here we are!

Yeah that's definitely a big key to success, all my direct debits / mortgage / bills come out the day after payday, makes things so much easier when it comes to budgeting and giving you a clear idea of what you actually have.

This was the biggest change for me a couple of years ago, night and day.

Doing alright but paying London rent, despite getting a sound deal, eats into a lot of it. Putting away about £400 a month into savings once all is said and done - and have a nice cushion built up but could easily do better if I didn't eat out/drink out so much. Admittedly I am probably supplementing myself by around £200 a month through mildly grey expenses on the company card  ;)

Nice one man. 'The Hunter' is still one of my favourite tracks since I came across it last year, gets a regular listen!

Occasionally think this but then think actually, I drink no more than most mid-twenties people working in an office in London. I guess with most client facing roles there is an ingrained drinking culture - schmoozing clients, networking etc. Not saying you couldn't be teetotal and do it but when a large portion of your time is taken up with long boozy lunches or dinners, it would be pretty tiresome if you weren't at least half cut.

That said, it's no where near as bad as my friends that work in hedge funds or private equity, that shit is relentless.

I try to balance it out by going to the gym three-four times a week before work, which has helped stave off some off the belly weight.

Best absent member.

Paulie

True.

However in related news his baby was due last week and is still yet to drop. Obviously not a Star Wars fan so probably a girl.

Ah! Was this the attractive Iranian girl? (not sure why I remembered that but I'm sure he posted something about her on here - a few years ago)

Fark, how old was she and how long had she been there?

can you do that with home computers connected up to the same internets?

29, 4 years.

I should point out that I work at an advertising/marketing agency, so we're not dealing in state secrets or anything that is going to get someone killed, at worst it's valuable information in the hands of competitors (budgets, business strategies etc) but to the average joe, it won't really mean anything.

Our company are keen to make an example of her though to avoid anyone else pulling the same stunt. Intellectual property theft, I believe.

Yeah, I've done some reading into it and I guess the only thing on her side is that apparently it's hard and extremely costly to 'prove' in the eyes of the law and take to court.

Silly girl, totally unexpected though - always the quiet ones!

Long story short, a former colleague of mine moved to another company and in the process copied/lifted 500 files (word docs, spreadsheets, etc). She got caught and now it's some big legal debacle with our lawyers. It's the kind of thing we all think about doing for personal gain but to do it on that scale is fucking stupid on her part.

I'm dead curious about it all but obviously it's a sensitive subject with my director who feels betrayed so I don't wish to press her. So, how did she get caught?

I would give her more credit than sending them through her work email, not least the sheer time it would take. Is there a way the IT staff in our office could 'see' if she had uploaded them to something like WeTransfer for example? Is there any hidden marker on files that says when/where it has been copied to a USB stick for example?

Thoughts and conspiracy theories welcome.

wow that's insane. glad you're okay.
i actually saw that 4chan post linked with the guy with the firecrackers, but i literally can't imagine what it must have felt like being in the crowd thinking you're running for your life. go and do the shit now that you thought you couldn't i guess?

Yeah it was the firecrackers by the vigil, seriously fuck whoever did that - I hope they got trampled on. As far as I know, no one has been caught for it.

For sure, it's changed my outlook on a few things!

I know this thread has moved on but just thought I'd share my experience as I was there with my girlfriend to celebrate her birthday.

Gives me the chills as I'd suggested getting tickets to see EODM last minute but 'fortunately', if that is the correct word, we couldn't get any on the door that evening.

We got caught up in the false alarm on Sunday evening which was bad enough - literally the scariest fucking thing I've experienced. Chilling eating dinner on Rue Montorgueil which is a long street full of restaurants where everyone sits outside, we hear this banging and see people come around the corner screaming. Now picture 100+ people all trying to get up from their tables trying to make a run for it, it was literal chaos; tables, chairs, drinks flying everywhere. We both hit the deck and I got trampled on, ended up smashing my nose on the pavement before we both got up and ran down a side street to hide in a laundrette with a few others. I think people thought I'd been shot as the blood from my nose was all over my shirt so that created even more panic as we got there.

We were hiding in there for what feels like forever but realistically it was probably all done in a few minutes. Sounds cliché but life literally flashed before my eyes, thoughts about friends, family, key moments etc - it was nuts. We were hugging and I was thinking 'fuck me this can't be it, it's not our time', expecting someone to burst in the door and start shooting or something.

Thankfully the people that did burst in were armed police to inform us that everything was ok.

That was all over a false alarm so I literally can't imagine how those trapped in the actual shootings were feeling, absolutely horrible.

Its gotta be hard to be Dugan and know progression is sending yourself onto scarier setups and going higher.

That was literally the first riding video I've watched in 4 years or so, I was wincing at some of it. He'd be absolutely fucked if he hung up on some of that stuff.

Unsure why he wears a lid on trails but not solid concrete

One size fits all PR/advertising/marketing account director at a large comms consultancy. Being 'creative', we have an entirely free bar in the office and all of the open plan, table tennis, hammock type of feel-good shit going on, which is alright.

My girlfriend is a surgeon in training and fuck me does it make me have days thinking 'what do I actually do' or visions of leaving the firm to go and chop trees down or build something, it is comical how different our respective 'bad day at work' stories are.

I can completely relate to this - our respective companies almost certainly have dealings with each other, I work for PR agencies and departments. Sadly we don't have as the same amount of perks but it's still a chilled out place to work. The PR world is such bullshit that I refuse to get stressed, compared to farming it's a joke. Half the job of a PR is to justify their existence to the wider company... Anyway, one day I'll do something useful.

Haha yeah man, what company? Four Communications. I have sporadic visions of doing something else but then I think, actually I love what I do and am making a decent wedge, I guess the grass always looks greener...
