The Lounge / Re: Devon Feil's expose about A22 and TCU
« on: August 23, 2014, 08:50:48 AM »
why dont these people just man the f**k up? bullying? really...

This isn't a very helpful suggestion.

I've followed A22 and TCU from the very start, and he does come across as a dick. His attitude reminds me a lot of the red pill community, those guys who read The Game and then end up becoming social Darwinist lunatics. I've never met him, but judging by the way he comes across online it wouldn't surprise me if most of the post is true.

As an aside, part of the reason for his initial success was the fact that he wasn't afraid to talk shit, and that this was entertaining and refreshing in a community full of people who were too connected to criticise each other. (Remember how the magazines covered new product/video releases a decade ago? They basically just republished the blurb from the box - ironically as TCU becomes part of the establishment, it's doing exactly the same thing).

I would like to see an outlet that has the edge that he had to begin with (i.e. isn't afraid to be outspoken), only run by someone who understands the difference between being a critic and being a bully.

The Bike Shop / Re: What did you do to your bike today? (v2)

Rode proper trails for the first time in years. Got through a medium sized line without too much trouble. So fun, wish I had a spot.

I will PayPal £20 to anyone who bothers to get their bike out to Varanasi for a picture sessioning this setup. You'll probably get attacked by angry stoned sadhus (holy men) but it'll be worth it!

Real talk - I reckon an ambitious crew could make a good edit in Delhi if they put the work in. Would require going at the right time of year (when it isn't too humid), spending at least two weeks in the city to scope out possibilities (there are no locals to act as guides but there definitely are spots around) and a lot of night filming/baksheesh to deal with police and security. Let's be honest this isn't going to happen...

The Bike Shop / Re: Frame History?

Alone Maiden (21", second hand) 2007 - 2010
Deluxe V2 (21.25", new) 2010 - present.

Both great frames, I don't grind or do anything big so don't need to replace things very often. Reckon the Deluxe will see me out. My ideal frame would be exactly the same only with seat stay brake mounts (maybe even V-brake mounts).

Complete frames before that:
Some sort of weird Diamondback Y frame
Mongoose Villain
Schwinn Automatic Trail (what a tank, still have this one)
WTP Nova (this was like a flatland frame, so short)

He interviews himself in the current Albion, it's a good read and he sheds some light on why he went off the rails. Well worth checking out.

Is there any other trait that is more essential to being Australian than riding street in sandals?

I was going to say riding street shirtless in sandals, but looks like that's been covered as well.

Cheers boys, got a gold finger, liking it so far but not sure whether I'll be able to find it very quickly in an emergency - it's tiny!

Hello chaps, last night I did a massive 6inch air, went otb and sent my bike straight to the deck where my brake lever decided to give up.

My question for you is: what cheap brake levers have those hinged clamps which mean you can take them off without taking your grips off? I would like to 'upgrade', but it's quite difficult to tell in a lot of the product photos online.

A.K, even with his sorded past, I can deal with...

Oh yes, what's the goss?

I can't really relate to any contemporary street riding, I like watching Lacey and AK but the pegless guys are by far the most interesting in my opinion. Richard Forne and Geoff Slatterly stand up!

I've come to the conclusion that Steven was playin a joke on bmx for the past few years to see who would write him off as a nut. Federal didn't get the joke as well as a few others.

I thought that as well, and I also thought that Federal did get the joke and that was why they were willing to support him for so long, so yes it does seem odd that they dropped him just as he started producing watchable content again.

However as we all know BMX is a young man's game and whilst we BGers might respect the old/mid school the new kids aren't interested. Sad to say but to make money and stay relevant you've got to be pushing your riding and getting exposure. Corey Martinez is a good example of someone who came up at the same time as Hamilton who has done this successfully. Don't get me wrong I absolutely love Hamilton's riding but I can see how his part in Cuts and that recent webvideo wouldn't excite Joe Barspinner down the park (not helped by the filming quality).

Having said all that, I was on the Hoffman website for some reason the other day and noticed that they have a "lifer" team, indicating that they still support some of the older guys (Mad Jon etc) which I think is awesome. Maybe Federal should have been more tactful and done something like that - keep on giving him frames and stuff.

With that sort of coverage I am expecting you to get hooked up soon Ben!

Signature 8lb frame with bb bashguard for more grindability?
