Interviews
Mutinous By Greentalks

That's Joe on the left (Owner M.O.D. Bikes) and Daniel (Mutinous) on the right, doing a bit of "trailside" bike repair. (click for full size image)

What's your name, age, location, etc?
Daniel Pfarr, 18 years of age middle of So. Cal desert (Joshua Tree) etc.

Whats an average day for you?
I'm not sure anyday is average for me. I wake up at 1 or really early and get frustrated cause I stay up late because its not hot. In between that time, I'll eat some Mexican food, ride at the Yucca Valley park with a racer, an emo kid who likes finch and other random figures. I try and watch all three episodes of the Simpsons everyday too.  If average gets averager, I think that’s the averagest.

How long have you been riding?
That’s a good question, I got a bike in 7th grade. I built jumps all the time and rode with all my friends. The next year, my parents split, I broke my leg, and my brother was never around. So I spent a lot of time just depressed, I had an orange Bully Hotrod at the time too

This was a low shot. The run up was bad unfortunately, but he did get a lot higher (click for larger image)

Did you ride a lot during that time of hardship?
I spent a lot of time strung out on drugs, and dealing with shit.  It didn't work out well.  I just got fucked around by my parents, but tried to keep riding. I don't know, I wonder what happened my freshmen year.

When you did go riding who did you ride with?
I rode by myself for like three years.  Actually my brother was still around until like tenth grade.  So I rode with him.

Did progression come easy or hard since you rode alone a lot for those three years?
I'm going to go with hard. I had little motivation or none at all.

Did you ride street, park, or whatever you had access to?
Well, my skatepark, I know better street spots... I mostly rode street.

Icepick  He killed the whole thing like this. See below for the one after he pulled this one. (Click for larger image)

From what I have seen in pics and videos you are pretty good but you often say differently.
Yeah, I get frustrated easily. I can't do everything I want either. Wait a minute, can you give me a definition of "pretty good"

Rail manuals, icepicks down huge rails and other street trickery..
If I broke my pegs off I'd be in trouble then huh!

If you look, you can tell he is too low. The peg caught the upright. Dan got back up, and went for it again. he pulled it before and after this shot. (Click for a larger image)

Haha, but you said you also are pretty good at jumping and such.
I like to spin and huck over gaps. I don't know, I like riding fast. Brian Castillo is so smart.

Do you try and imitate anyone or do you have your own style?
Well, I mean I definitely have my own style or something. I can't ever keep my right foot on when I hop. Going fast is just what you do you know? Slow stuff is cool I guess, I'm not into it. I've been trying to get techy, its not me though.

What would be one of the most recent tricks that you have learned and what is one of your biggest accomplishments in riding?
Dude! The other day I rode through this nature preserve, its a swamp in the middle of the desert, with some boardwalk. Me and this kid were flying through there doing carves and ducking under trees on some little paths. We even got kicked out of there.  I did some x-ups feebles down this ledge the other day.

Got to love it! You were picked up by M.O.D. awhile back. How did that come around?
Joe just watched a bunch of videos I used to make, he told me he had a whole folder of them. Other than that, dude, your guess is as good as mine. I make myself bored when I talk to myself, I can only imagine others impression when I'm talking to them.  I just learned the earth goes 1.3 million miles a year.  TV is so cool.

You make yourself bored when talking to yourself?
Yeah, I get worked up thinking. Then when I try to speak, I'm still thinking about thinking instead projecting a voice. Good thing I like writing, otherwise you'd be getting gibberish that makes less sense than this gibberish.

You graduated from high school recently. What do you have planned?
Dude... I'm so lost. I have to move out this week, and I graduated the 13th, nice huh? My Jetta got ran over two months ago so I finally got my insurance settled, so I have to stick around. I'm just packing up my stuff and getting out though.  I'm going to Auburn to live with my brother, try and ride, work, sleep on the floor.  Usual dirtbag style.

Then make my way to Washington, I have other brothers from another family my dad fucked up, I'm going to stick around up there.

Do you think you will ever make it to New Zealand?
Yeah, I'll make it, I don't have much else in life. I'm a British subject I guess...I don't need all that shit for immigration.

You get the idea he likes rails? (click for larger image)

Why New Zealand though?
I'm not really sure what else to do, I have to stick around in Canada though, get my passport from there.  Why anywhere? They have Glaciers, maybe I can be a snow hobo...

You have to go to Canada and get your passport to go to New Zealand?
Yeah, I'm from Canada. passports are pretty much mandatory travel equipment.

Why not just get it from the USA?
That means I have to get immigration forms, applications, delayments.  Canada is part of the commonwealth as well as NZ so its like moving from a state to US territories.

Will you keep riding once you are down in New Zealand?
I’m going to be snowboarding a lot more.  I think I’m always going to ride, maybe start some "hip" clothing co. down there for all the teens!

Wallride (click for larger image)

Is snowboarding something that you enjoy doing besides riding and going to heavy metal shows?
Yeah, I hate the heat. Jibbing is cool too, trying to take my street to the snow. Metal... Geeeez, I'm not a Hessian.

Alright then what do you call that music?
Hardcore, its a genre. I prefer Christian hardcore.

Any reason why Christian hardcore?
Its got a good message and some of them know how to rock! I accepted Jesus Christ as my lord and savior and got off drugs recently. It helps me keep my head straight, plus I love dancing.

You have been straight for quite awhile. Was it hard to get off drugs?
So hard! I gave up about all my friends because they get high and I don't need that anymore.

Have you touched any of that stuff since you quit a few months ago right?
Four months, nope. I got a tattoo representing my conviction as straightedge. So I got that to remind me, its hard though. All my friends and about everyone in my life is fucked up.

Manual! Bad pick, sorry, were trying to locate the original. (click for larger image)

You are straight edge, ehh? Are you one of the types that go on and on about how everyone should be straightedge or is it something that they should decide themselves?
Dude, edge until death! Nah, I still go to parties, I stick my hood over my face to not asphyxiate. I'm sort of strict on the whole abstinence part though. It make me sick when people don't respect each other enough that they just fuck and have no concern for the other.

Well then count me as straight edge then. Its funny how everyone is just doing everyone and it means nothing. I always thought it was supposed to mean something.
What do you mean "supposed to mean something"? It means a lot to me.

About how people just sleep around. I always believed that is something that should be for one person not for everyone and their mom.
Yeah, there are people who don't believe that. People are horny man, look how overpopulated we are.
