View Full Version : I fear the future of the world.

I have no hope for future generations. Computers ruined civilization.

I don't even know where to begin, so I will just start somewhere.

I get on Facebook this morning. News Feed is full of "Quiz Results", I immediately am in a bad mood after being awake for 10 minutes.

This has been building up for some time, but today it got to me badly.

Here I am, peering into the dull lives of individuals I "know" (or like to look at their sexy photos), and all of these people are legally adults. Some are my age, some older, some younger. I am looking at these 20 something year olds and they're fucking retarded.

They can't type, they take these online quizzes to see what Disney Character they are, and they're so narcissistic it makes me want to fucking vomit! These quiz results always spit out something like, "You are a good friend, a cheerful person and full of humor. Your friends love you and you are awesome. That is why you are SIMBA from The Lion King!"

Oh really now? I don't care what "decade" you are, nor do I care what "50's pinup girl" you would be. I could care less what "State is yours", and why the fuck do I want to know how well you know this other fat bitch? No. One. Cares.

Jesus, I wish that was all.

But no, no its not.

Its everything. Mostly girls, but guys are just as dumb over some of this shit too. Everything from watching TV all day, I have friends that are like level 50 prestige in COD who just play it non-stop, am I the only one who feels like I am growing duller when I participate in that shit?

Seriously, if I watch TV for too long, after series of commercials after series of commercials I literally have a headache, I am not interested at all in what the ads are trying to advertise. It literally gives me this dull, heavy feeling of helplessness.

I think we're being brainwashed on a mass scale. Not intentionally, not like it was "set out to be" from a group of people, its just everything evolved into it.

When I am sitting here, wasting away, I ask myself. "What would I be doing right now, if I was born just TWO GENERATIONS AGO?"

The answer is probably smoking grass with Jazz Musicians and working hard for a honest living.

I just get sad when I see how materialistic people are now, I get upset when I see young children being assholes (as in beating animals, cussing, smoking, etc when I would of got my ass beat for that when I was young). Fat people upset me. Really, how could you of let yourself get so fucking fat?

I don't know where this is going. Just add similar stories of disgust for the Present, and state your fears for the Future.

Well I blocked each individual quiz, and then blocked all those people who fill them out all the time from appearing on my News Feed.

At one point, it was literally just useful updates from friends and family, photos of my friend's travels, etc. But that was before Facebook went way downhill by adding applications, fan pages, quizes, and all that other stupid shit.

The other day a bunch of kids came into our dental office and started jumping up and down on the coffee table.
Meanwhile, the mom did nothing, she was probably texting her "baby's daddy", and she was too busy to notice that her 12 year old kid was cracking the table in half.

Two minutes later, she screams at the front desk because her kid cut his leg open on our "flimsy furniture".
We later found out that she is in fact on welfare, and those kids were going to get free dental work done.

You'd think that since they get all this stuff for free, they'd be more appreciative, and respectful. But no, not in America.

I've been on this doom trip for a while now too. I suspect its probably marginally worse in the US than over here but I think there are still a lot of other countries left who haven't bred a nation of degenerates. It's just the modern fall of rome... comfort makes people complacent so they stop caring then eventually the walls crumble and the idealistic fuckers overtake. We are pretty much all too comfortable.

it's the same over here. people don't care and expect to get everything for free. if you dare to say anything against them, you might get your lights punched out or your car's tires slit.

i love to mess with those dumb f*cks, though. especially at work.

Today's young adults are fucking pathetic. There are so few people that are willing to get behind something that makes a real difference in their lives and the lives of others.

There is a complete lack of activism in our generation (activism as in the desire to change conditions around oneself). The perception seems to be that there is very little an individual can achieve in the wider scheme of things, and that apathy is a sensible and realistic way to live.

Without the motivation to do something meaningful in the world around them, their attention turns to the controllable comfort of self-focus. And without the challenge of negotiating the world outside of their comfort zone, there is no need to think or solve problems outside that small sphere.

And so, we end up with all the narcissistic bullshit that we see on Facebook and Twitter, along with an entire generation of people that are, for all intents and purposes, vapid and empty.

Rida2
06-21-2009, 05:13 PM
Agreed. I get these feelings all the time, especially when I see how much impact "celebrities" make on the media and the masses. Its pathetic. We are wasting our intelligence on trivial bullshit, imagine how much we could have accomplished if the minds that brought us useless technologies like video games that can recognize you as you walk in the room and then have a conversation with were to focus their thoughts on fixing whats broken instead of focusing on their wallets, but unfortunatly thats all the world cares about and thats why its in the the shit hole and thats why we are sinking deeper.

I'm going to watch the best thing in the world: INTERNET PORN.

Or, you know.. you could engage in a fucking social life, AND ACTUALLY GET LAID.

I get exactly where you're coming from.. I simply use Myspace rather than my phone, don't touch facebook, and the rest of my internet use revolves around BMX and music.

We have a lazy, unwilling, uncaring generation chock full of morons, who are willing to accept anything you hand them.

I don't understand people.. I got my first computer in 98-99, and within just a couple of months my grammar skills got so much fucking better it wasn't even funny..

I guess too many people just "DGAF" if they look like moronic idiots..

But that's just because they are in fact, moronic idiots.

The internet isn't even the thing to blame, it's the people who use it, I blame media, lack of willpower, inferior school systems, lack of social situations, and the avoidance of intellectual thought.

liam
06-21-2009, 07:22 PM
The internet has it's benefits and I appreciate it. I do find the majority of the human race sickening. I am of the opinion that nearly all of the people currently reproducing are exactly the people who shouldn't be. If my reign of power comes to be, a breeding license would be required. All people would be sterilised at birth and would need to seek my personal approval should they wish to reproduce. I've always been a fan of dystopian novels, but lately that bleak future is almost looking appealing in comparison to a world full of mindless, selfish and rude scum. I don't even like leaving my house if I can help it. Public transport and supermarkets make me so mad.

My ideal life would be living alone in a lighthouse somewhere very remote. I would get things delivered and grow my own fruit and veg. My girlfriend would live close by and could visit when she pleased. I think I only like around seven or eight people in the whole world. If they were the only remaining people in the world, I really wouldn't care. The future of the race would obviously be in jeopardy, but I could live with that.

I also just got my BS in Information Technology two days ago. Specifically Computer Information Systems. I design and build software for a living. I also spend 75% of my free time outdoors.

Complaining about a generation that is different than your own is very subjective. I am 24 and I have no fear for my generation or the generations that followed. I've done math and programming tutoring while I was in school to new students at the university whole freshly graduated high school, and I was rarely dissappointed with their skillsets and intelligence.

I just got rid of my Myspace a month+ ago, it feels so good not listening to bitches whining about their lack of picture comments and putting shit in their status that no one cares about.

And I've actually been meeting girls in person, rather than on the internet, which is a nice change of pace. Life is good. Bikeguide is literally the only site nowadays that I open my browser for. Maybe Empire/Dans/Albes once in a while, but that's it. I went from being on the internet all day every day to.. not being on hardly at all, and it feels good as fuck.

But yeah I hate people who are on myspace/facebook and give you an update on their life/feelings every half hour...seriously, nobody gives a fuck (except other internet bitches, or even dudes sometimes).

And the fat people thing: Anytime I go in a public place like a store or something, literally every other person is obese, not even every 3rd but every other person! Get you lazy ass off the couch and eat something other than Doritos and Mountain Dew!

apparently, a film called "idiocracy" deals with these issues.

That movie sucked though.

I honestly am torn. The internet has made so many things better, but so many more things worse.

Manufacturers have to consistently make quality products or there will be reviews of it breaking on the internet and nobody will buy it, causing them to go out of business.

This goes for all sectors, the mass amount of people who can exchange experience with manufactured goods is amazing.

On the other hand, half of those people are fucking stupid.

I do like the fact that I can get in contact with my family for free so easily though.

And also, I'd like to add that Twitter (as lame as it's made to sound) is really useful if you plan on using it for company updates and such. I have all of the bike companies that I pay attention to subscribed to for cell-phone alerts, and it works great. Yes, Twitter is simple and it's basically a new "trend" that will probably be gone in a month or so, but like I said, ace for company updates.

Funny. That's why I deleted my myspace/facebook/twitter/anything and stopped watching TV. The only thing I do with a TV is watch DVDs and play video games, because need for speed is the shit, and the only thing I do on a computer is use e-mail, keep up to date with the action sports world (its my job right now), and try to do anything with news or... you know. Educate myself.

Delete them?

If you don't care what they are up to then ignore them are you stupid or something?
I get people I didn't give a shit about at school trying to add me and I just click ignore I have maybe 20 people on there im remotely interested in.

You dont like ads on TV? Then dont bloody watch TV!
If theres something I want to see I go to google (currently watching add free One Piece).

t us useless technologies like video games that can recognize you as you walk in the room and then have a conversation with were to focus their thoughts on fixing whats broken instead of focusing on their wallets, but unfortunatly thats all the world cares about and thats why its in the the shit hole and thats why we are sinking deeper.

video games are a waste of time or "useless"?
please do yourself a favour and gouge out your eyes as unfortunately reading and cinema also fall into the same category "Entertainment" they are the same and to say they are not would be foolish on your part. So we better pull every director, special effect guy, writer etc out of there field of expertise and make them do something useful for the world.

The internet is full of stupid people? reealllyy?

Do you think they just sprang up the day it was created?
No there have allways been stupid people the difference is now they can go online and connect with the me, you and everyone else where as 20 years ago they could not.

http://www.cydeweys.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/01/internet-theory.jpg

Oh and what if a by product of the "can recognize you as you walk in the room and then have a conversation with" is something helpful for people? like they take it an re-work it for disabled people to help them regain speech or something?
Im sure Wii fit could be worked into helping rehabilitate people and so on as a rough example of the possible benefits of such technology.

Five months ago, whilst having our home re-done, myself and my family moved to a small, two bedroomed chalet thing with only terrestrial television, hardly any phone signal, no activities surrounding us and absoloutely no internet coverage at all. I thought that during the two + months we were there i would slowly kill myself. Turns out, in that time i actually:

1, Lost a great deal of weight
2, Went out about 10X more than usual.
3, Got a girlfriend and had sex with her numerous times.
4, Got invited to a good 10 parties/benders
5, Improved my exam grades.
6, Got a part-time job working at a golf-club next to our chalet.

As for now i am: overweight, spending way too much time at home, got dumped and have yet to find another girl, have been to only 1 party after my exams, failed most of my exams due to lack of preparation thanks to the internet distractions but i still have my job.

But i don't blame the internet for all this, i blame myself for being so reliant on the internet. It's the summer now and tomorrow i'm going out all day and i'll leave my internet time for 12 in the evening when i am preparing for the next day.

Meh. There's always been people like this, the internet just gives them an audience. The stupid people get louder and the other people just don't say as much. It's like when there's a batch of a faulty product (not just BMX parts), you hear more about the small amount of people that have problems with it than the large amount that don't.

Parts of society are also going to shit, though.

agree 100% with original poster;
facebook, and myspace, are just the tip of the iceberg, the most clearly visible example of what the OP is talking about, but it extends to TV programmes like Big Brother or Trisha or the Jeremy Kyle show, magazines like Heat or Reveal, and situations like people not giving a fuck about elections...

i look at Iran, and yes, they're in a mess right now, but god am i envious of them for actually getting off their arses and DEMANDING justice and change.

JackMontreal

Dude, the whole girlfriend/party thing is due to your incredible low self-esteem. And consequently you are spending more time in social isolation. Plus you seem to be easily distracted by flashing emoticons, status updates, and probably masturbation. Added together, these two factors put you on your sad ass, allowing you thus to gain infinite amounts of weight. Stop being a Debbie Downer and fucking make stuff happen. You don't have to run away from modernity as you know it to get shit done.

People like you are what the OP is talking about. People full of excuses, this-and-thats, reliant not only on the internet, but also on the mirror of purebred self-pity. It isn't hard - you can do it without social crutches such as liquor, cigarettes, chems, whatever - to make friends who don't mind shooting the shit on a rooftop, or skipping rocks under a bridge.

And if you got some fucking balls maybe an employer would hire you out of trust, trust that you'd be an asset to their company, instead of out of sympathy. I'm tired of people whining about external forces, blaming the recession, their education, their upbringing, social norms, etc. ... blaming these things for their lack of motivation. If you really want something as obtainable as a simple friend to get you off your ass, fucking get involved with something. Jesus.

After reading all of those posts I can't even put into words all of my scrambled thoughts on this, I live in southern Orange County, CA. A fucking bubble, and this has pinpointed the thoughts i've been developing for a while now. People seriously are sooo much more capable of doing things than they think they are, again as laz said the lack of will power, brain power, motivation, and goals is so ridiculous and is so frustrating to see because everyone around me just gets everything handed to them.
My girlfriend was just telling me the other day that it's time to do something with her life, but she has no motivation because all of her life she's had everything handed to her and basicly said she doesn't know how to go out and do something for herself, or get what she wants that doesn't have to do with money that's been given to her. I don't know by any means what that feels like, and all I could do is look at her with pity and a level of disgust.
The level of illiteracy that we've reached today is mind boggling and I refuse to be a dumb fuck succumbing to it. People honestly need to not be so dense and close minded about things. Maybe it's worse because I am in the pinnacle of stereotypes, fakes, materialism and what not but that's even more reason. There really is no point to this, just ranting since I never really do but it's in the same genre as people being idiots with the internet and being powerless zombies to whatever is fed to them through television and other sources.

Funny. That's why I deleted my myspace/facebook/twitter/anything and stopped watching TV. The only thing I do with a TV is watch DVDs and play video games,

Ding ding ding!

Facebook isn't the end of the world, seriously. It sucks that people use it so extensively to waste time, but once people get bored of it - which they inevitably will - they'll move on to the next fad.

The main thing is to lead by example. If you're fed up of Facebook and your TV, don't use either. Like you found out yourself, while someone else is doing endless Facebook quizzes, you were out riding your bike. People fucking around online doesn't change that possibility, and probably even helps it by meaning pepole are going to be indoors glued to their computers rather than outside telling you to fuck off.

Just do your own thing, pretty much.

The only thing I do with a TV is watch DVDs and play video games, because need for speed is the shit, and the only thing I do on a computer is use e-mail, keep up to date with the action sports world (its my job right now), and try to do anything with news or... you know. Educate myself.

We really have to use these computers to our advantage. There is so much we can learn. From cooking recipes, to how to fix shit, to scientific bull that amazes me, everything! Be positive with the shit in this world...

Exactly!
I had a Myspace page for about a week and wondered why the entire time. I never bothered with the others. Do people really think their lives are important enough to warrant a blog? Don't even get me started on Youtube video blogs. There is maybe 3 hours of TV a week worth watching. MAYBE. remove the commercials and you get about an hours worth.

I'll pass.

I spend A LOT of time online, but I skip that junk. Which is what it is. Junk.
Do you really need it? Is it really that entertaining? Nope.

So I saw that 'Idiocracy' was mentioned in this thread a few days ago and I just got round to watching it today. I thought it was going to be a documentary like 'An Inconvenient Truth', but it wasn't. It was still pretty good though.

Breakdown of society and individual thought case study 1:

Guy at my work has a wife who is heavily pregnant, so they're obviously going to the maternity bit of the hospital for check ups and shiz.

He gets talking to this teenage kid who is already a father and has another on the way, standard conversation about names. Kid called his son Kyle. My friend asks why, is there a particular reason for that name? Could it also be a relative or friend's name?

Kid: "Well, my girlfriend and I are just massive fans of the Jeremy Kyle show."

It's waaaaay worse than that (just hope they spelled it Kyle, instea dof the stupid trend of misspelling it like "Kiile".

North Korea is spewing nuclear war rumors. There is Iraq, economy and more... and what is the new focused on? A child molester. Who we are going to sing the praises of because he made some music.

Yep, we have great priorities.

Um, anyone want to hazard a guess at where these problems are coming from?

Broken families. No father figure, mother rarely around. These kids see no love, no authority, no role models. They don't get shown how or why they should learn about how to better themselves, they don't get shown the importance of anything, the don't get shown anything. And before you know it, these children are parents, and they're not even out of childhood themselves. How can they raise children to become adults when they aren't even mature enough to act like adults?

Then there's the benefit system. Families live off benefits. I used to work in a school on a council estate. One lady who worked lunchtimes there worked 5 days for 1 hour, but was only paid for 4. (They wouldnt employ her unless she worked all 5 days). Because if she worked the extra hour she would lose her benefits. Her kids learn off the way that she acts, which is why there are generations and generations of this kind of person. PEOPLE LIKE THIS ARE TAKING THE FUCKING PISS. Lots of us pay taxes, and it goes straight to these people who can't be fucked get an education and go out to find a proper career and work for their money.

As for the dumbasses who sit on facebook all day doing stupid quizzes with no idea of what grammar is? I'm glad my a parents were never like that, and that my children will not grow up to be like that.

And to be honest, if I bring my children up half as good as I hope, they will sure as hell have no competition from these cretins offspring.

Sorry, I don't buy the whole "father figure" B.S.
Lots of kids are raised by just one parent and come out fine.

It's a combination of things, with a lot of it being TV and day care raise our kids. Also, letting therapists tell us spanking is wrong, this oen I have major issues with.

Kids come out fine when their mother is capable of fulfilling both roles, which is certainly tough, but some people are up to it and others aren't.

Believe me, I have worked with many children who come from tough backgrounds, and a key problem in their lives is a lack of male or authority figures. I'm not saying this happens to all single parent families or that having 2 parents makes you fine, but in the cases where there are problems, this is a major factor.
