What bars on 24" S&M ATF Build?
« on: January 24, 2015, 04:26:29 PM »
Any of you guys out there build up a 24" S&M ATF or similar freestyle build?

Just wondering what size of bars you went with and how you like them.

We are building one up with a customer and went with a set of S&M Bruiser 6.5" rise bars, with a front load stem. They seem like a really good choice.

We also tried out a pair of S&M 8" Slam bars, and although they felt big, they weren't out of the question. Is any one out there running a bar around this size on 24"?

I used Slams (regular 8" version) and a front load Madera stem on my wife's Model C. Seems to work pretty well.

As we all know it's all preference.  Everyone has different set ups.

I run a top load with 8.375" bars and a 5mm spacer.  It is a bit tall and light in the front, but hops and manuals REAL easy.  This set up feels proportional to how my 20" is set up with a top load and 9" bars.
I'll probably take out the spacer and run the stem slammed to lower it a bit.

Aloha.

7.25 on my Liquid with a top load.

Or Slams with an inverted top load...

Any taller and it felt too loopy.

I think it'll depend a lot on the person.  What does the customer ride now?  Is he tall?  What kind of riding is he doing?

I think the main thing I've noticed though, is that on new school 24" builds (Sunday Model C & Wave C, S&M ATF 24, Liquid Feedback 24, WTP Atlas 24", Stolen Saint 24", etc.)  people are not doing the old 5" and 6" cruiser bar height. Most guys are going for 7.25, 7.75", 8" and even some 9"s and 10"s.

So, I'd probably say, if he's right in the middle, then go with the 7.75" Sunday 24umphXL  bars:

Was running Slams and an OLD Redneck with a 5mm spacer on my 24" Dirt Bike ad then swapped the Slams out for Credence 8.7" bars. Ran it around the street and hit a concrete park and got a session or two at Ray's on it with the Credence bars and it felt good. I've since swapped the Redneck for an inverted Challenger but haven't really ridden the bike much since then.

Thanks for the help. He's definitely a shorter guy around 5' 5" or so. The Bruisers feel pretty good, but we still need to get cranks on the bike to really test it out. (He's building it up part by part slowly).

We've built up 3 different 22" ATFs but this is the first 24" in the past few years so I appreciate the input!

In that case I would guess that yes the 6.5"s will probably work well for him. Keep in mind this is because the bb is higher-than-axle-level on new school 24"s. if I remember right, the bb is about 1"+ rise above axle level on the ATF 24"?  So, it makes sense that you'd go from 5.5" up to 6.5". The Model C is roughly 1.75"+ bb rise, so 7.25" bars keep a similar stance height as 5.5 bars would on a zero-bb-rise cruiser would....
