The Bike Shop / What did you do to your bike today? (v2)
« on: October 13, 2012, 10:50:48 AM »
Built a wheel for the first time in my ten+ years of riding.
I don't know why it seemed so intimidating.  Used the G-Sport guide and it was tight and straight in less than an hour.

Parents came up for the day and brought a bunch of old parts I had at their house.
Trying to get my friends bike a little less like a piece of shit.  Amongst all that I found a set of JPegs so I switched out the shit ones I was running for those.  New Eclat Ctrl tire as well, all the skids really killed the last one haha.

Made this at my parents yesterday with scrap wood and some other shit that was laying around the house.  Pretty stoked on it.

do the sleeves on butchers not reach the end of the peg or is it just mine?

The sleeves on mine extend about 1mm past the peg.

Sell and Swap / UNTRUSTED Sellers

Remember, there is no way of knowing how truthful these claims are.  Anybody can say someone is untrustworthy when that might not be the case for whatever reason.
This list is just a rough guide.

There is a list below from the 120 page thread of all the members that atleast one person has claimed to have been ripped off by.

Please refrain from posting in this thread UNLESS you have a name to add to the list.

Remember to be careful when doing transactions on here.  Use paypal, get a tracking number and keep your shipping receipts just in case anything goes wrong.  Bikeguide takes no responsibility for these deals, you are on your own, so be careful.  This has always been part of the rules but I'll post it again:

"Bikeguide is NOT responsible for anything that happens to your deal. You are on your own. You may as well deal with a crack dealer on the street, because I cannot and will not do anything to help you. Reason being, I want no part, or to be held responsible when the shit hits the fan. We suggest you use Heatware, see the other thread for information. At the VERY least consult the good/bad seller list."

Ah ok, I was under the impression it had to be 100% sodium hydroxide, but if it's going to be diluted anyway I guess I don't need that.  AH DOY

Dilute caustic soda crystals should get it off. Dunno who this is, but like this. Rinse it pretty good after.

Yeah I came across that video but have had a hard time finding caustic soda/lye/sodium-hydroxide from any stores in Canada.  I managed to find one spot but it's a huge amount of it for $20.  The search continues.

I've got a gold mankind headset that I would like to strip.
I made the assumption it was annodized aluminum but after soaking it in Easy-Off with no change to it, I googled it and found it it's some sort of alloy, unsure of what metals though.
Does anybody know what it would likely be made of and what to use to strip it?

Took all the stickers off, stripped my stem, switched pedals to some black animal hamiltons.
Now, besides the chain, this bike a glorious piece of metal.

Two seconds with the proper tool at the shop today and I loosened them no problem.
I need to find my goddamn pedal wrench.

Yeah turns out I'm not retarded, but still a pussy.
Looks like I'm gonna have to take it to the shop because I only have a mini-ratchet and nothing really for leverage.
