The thing about Magpul is you see a lot of guys completely decking their rifles with every component available, and then plinking with them in a field.  It's like a kid who buys a complete bike to cruise down the sidewalk, and then proceeds to spend $1k on every Odyssey part available but still just cruises down the sidewalk.

I get the feeling that Magpul is the Odyssey of the AR world. Great products, tons of R&D but people still seem to hate on them and call people "fan boys". Is it just me or is that really how it is?

Ehhhh..... kind of. They make some cool shit but they are not usually the first choice for people who actually use their rifles.  They have everybody hanging off their nuts over at ARFcom and guys who play in the 3-gun and "practical" matches use their stuff but that's about it.  Some of their features are kind of gimmicky and unnecessary IMO.

I'm not sure what bike brand I'd compare them to though.

Leaning towards the Magpul UBR stock and MIAD grip for the lower assembly. Everything I have read says it is a very solid setup. A little heavy but gives a good balance. I don't plan to run around with it anyways.

Good components right there...

I still stand by a SOPMOD stock for a carbine and an A2 stock for a precision AR.  I like the simplicity of them.

I always forget about this thread...

Awesome dudes to deal with:

spikez5: Trade went super smooth!

Carrotfvcker: Bought a stem, he shipped it immediately, what more can you ask for?

stupidbicyclist: No problems at all with a frame purchase from him.

That's just the way Quentin runs them. I'm not that much of an AR guy so I'm not sure of the disadvantages, especially since its big and will allow the use of gloves easily. I personally like the way it looks.

Are there any disadvantages? I can see so if it were small and you couldn't go bigger, but not the other way around.

The only real downsides are that you're limiting some grip options, especially those with integrated guards (magpul), the breakage factor and inability to replace just the guard, and for me the aesthetics. I like the flat guards... I've ran plenty of M16's while wearing thick winter gloves and I never felt a need for an enlarged trigger guard. Same with the other soldiers I've talked to.

I have absolutely nothing planned yet. I'm leaning towards a pistol, but nothing is set yet.

Out of curiosity- why the integrated trigger guard?

It sucks that ruger basically took the p3at design for the LCP, I have found the LCP more dependable and better at feeding hollowpoints, but ymmv.

I hate ruger because they don't support the second amendment.

I hate kel tec because their mad scientist owner likes to make awesome guns, then have runs of 100 of them once a year, because he is too busy with R and D on another awesome gun.  They never pick up the slack in manufacturing, and spend all the efforts in R and D.  Then you end up with RFBs and KSGs being IMPOSSIBLE to find, and EXPENSIVE.

Can't argue with you on the kel-tec points you make... The rfb/ksg/rmr situation pisses me off too.

Anyone have experience with the s&w bodyguard .380?

From people I've talked to who have owned/used them:

Decent quality for a s&w, safety sucks, laser is crap.
