The Bike Shop / Re: Pedal design devolving?
« on: February 27, 2015, 10:10:55 AM »
I guess it depends on the design. The two examples above would probably just last a very short time in the hands of a bmxer.

I can imagine a structural design looking like a spiderweb, like the Beijing birdīs nest stadium being strong, but would still probably not last for a bike throwing- pedal grinding bmxer.

For a certain subset of rider (non-grinding, non-bike-throwing) nice pedals would work. But I agree that the average bmx thrasher would kill nice pedals in a week.

It's a stupid fucking color edited image that looks different under different light and on different screens. God damn the internet has made people stupid.

The color of the dress is fuck you.

If it's not working right, can I fix it by putting the hub in the freezer overnight? Confirm/Deny

Lol

Please elaborate on how solid their design is, I have yet to see any details or internal pictures.

Is 25 ounces too heavy?

That's what the Mainline tires are.

I've read 26oz for the big MoFo front tire, which is a bit heavy for me.

Fuck it, I think I'm going to run my spare set of Spank Spike pedals on my 20".
Do it. i ride them on my bmx since 2 years and no problem so far. i just had to remove some pins because those pedals are too grippy with all the pins installed, i hate when my foot is glued to the pedal and i can't escape from the bike.
The only problem you will have is that all other bmx pedals will feel like SHIT when you try them.

Haha I actually removed a bunch of the pins last night and I'm getting new bearings pressed into them today so they will be ready to rock soon.

I'm also considering cutting down the pins 2mm as well, but we'll see if I need to once I ride them.

Man, I feel for you guys. I have a 2.4 tire with eclat brakes and still have a ton of clearance. Sorry, I'll leave.

2.4 (I assume steel bead) tire in the rear? You must love that rotational weight... ;)

Gotta look cool for the kids yo...

In all seriousness though, I dont really notice it. I dont like when my bike feels too squirrely, because I'm squirrely enough as it is ;)
It tables just fine. Plus, it looks badass. Isnt that what really matters? The answer is yes.

Lol I just had this debate with myself over what tire sizes I wanted to switch to. Part of me was curious to try some monster truck giant tires, but frame and brake clearance would be issues for me.

The added height and width sound interesting in terms of feel, but the rotational weight wouldn't. Like everything, tradeoffs all around.

whats the beef with s&ms barcodes?

S&M's frame QC has been spotty these days so problem frames are making it into the wild. I have talked to many people who have had an S&M (or S&M built frame) who had problems and will never own another.

My only S&M experience is with their 90s/early 2000s frames which were awesome. Not pretty, not the most detail oriented, but damn tough.

Still S&M made... I like the idea of a 21.5 green with welded mounts but I won't trade my FBM for an S&M.

Likewise. He should get Pedal Driven to do a batch

Fapfapfapfapfap

If Dave built them I would immediately buy one (a la "Shut up and take my money").

I've actually had the thought of getting Dave to build a clone of an FBM Barcode but that would be rude to Joe and rather sacreligious. It would never be a "real" T1 either.
