Good example of how guns can be good.

It happens all the time.  These incidents just don't get much media attention.

But that guy is still a paranoid freak and should not have been carrying a gun since he probably hadn't needed to use it before.

Someone had posted this in response to a thread I made about guns on another forum (Gun friendly place, why I posted there). Anyhow, don't know if it has been brought up here, but it seems to be very wise to obtain the weapon that your local police officers use, as described above.

The comment seems a bit silly.  It is either a justified shooting or it isn't.

Police use shotguns, m16s, and handguns.  They also shoot the best rounds available.  I can't imagine what one would be shooting to have more powerful ammo than the police.

Either way, I keep Federal HST ammo loaded for self-defense.  Found a couple of boxes locally right after it turned "for LEO only".

If youve only got money for one, you probably dont have $1000+ :p

Mine was $699, they are getting cheaper because so many people bought them around the election, now they see the Obama not wanting to have a new assault weapons ban, so people are selling them/demand went down.  Ammo and EBR's have been in decline over the past few months.

Yeah, prices have come down and not everyone is back ordered now.

Guys, i've been wanting a gun for some time now.

I need to start off by becoming a resident of Nevada, right?
Then getting my permit?
Then getting a gun?

What else is there to do?

What would be a good weapon to get?

For Nevada laws do a quick google search.  You shouldn't need a permit to own a firearm in Nevada unless you want to carry concealed.  Read up to make sure.

As for a good weapon....there's a huge range of choices.  For home defense, a handgun or a shotgun.

For a rifle...do you want a powerful centerfire rifle or a less powerful rimfire?

If you can only afford one gun as of now and want to use it for everything, get a 5.56 AR-15 with a 16" barrel and collapsible stock.

If you narrow down your search from the choices mentioned above I'll help you with the details.

Hey guys I need a scope that can see .22 holes at 100 yards but wont break the bank.

A rifle scope or spotting scope?  A spotting scope is nice to have.  A friend can call out hits to you while you shoot.

He's all the way up in Sacramento.  That's why I say if/when I'm in the area.  If I head all the way to CA though I plan on seeing the bottom half of the state as well.

Does anyone on here have a Saiga 12 or an SKS?

I also want a Milsurp that has a lot of non corrosive ammo readily available and pretty cheap.  Any ideas or recommendations?

I don't own either but I've shot both.  Saiga 12 is a great shotgun.  SKS is a decent, cheap little rifle.  Especially if you're looking for something to shoot shitty surplus ammo through.  7.62x39 is relatively cheap.

My sig has a photo of it, and here's an old picture with a 10rd magazine.  It's much sweeter with the 20rd mags though.  I've also been thinking about a classic camo paint job.



I'd go for the AR15 if I was you, or save a bit longer for an M1A (its my favorite out of all the guns I've shot).
