They don't come automatic, you have the option between 3 shot burst, and single shot.

I am a marksman in the M-16, M-9, and M-4 according to the U.S. Air Force, so it's not like I don't know how to properly handle weapons.

3-shot burst would be considered a select-fire rifle.

I was just checking to see if you really had an "assault rifle".

I own:
M-16 (since fl laws now allow assault rifles)

Damn, you have a full-auto M16?

I haven't looked at scopes lately so I'm not familiar with any new models.  I agree with your line of thinking though.  If you're willing to spend a bit more for a nicer model you can always put it on a bigger rifle.

The biggest difference I see between the two scopes mentioned, besides the rimfire/centerfire deal, is the size of the objective lens (light gathering ability).  Also, if I was buying a scope that might be going on a large caliber rifle it would have "tactical" turrets for ease of adjustment.  Either way, Leupold makes quality optics and I hear they have great customer service.

i could use some sruplus 7.62. Shit is so expensive

I've still got about 3.5 packs of quality Lithuanian ammo (photo below).  Got 'em for $99/200rnds and they went up to $130 a couple weeks later.

but definitely fun to shoot and its dirt ass cheap.  Thats the major advantage of getting anything .22lr in my opinion.  You can go shooting all day for like 10 bucks.  Whereas taking out your .45 will cost you out the ass for all day shooting.

I've been bringing the .22 rifle out to shoot so I don't burn up a ton of 7.62.  The small gun definitely isn't as fun though.

theyre ok.  accurate enough for target shooting but definitely not home protection.

Do you mean just plinking around?

If a gun is accurate enough for decent target shooting it is plenty for home/self defense.  For example the target I just posted is roughly 8" across, plenty accurate to keep it on an intruder's torso.

Went out and shot last weekend with a few friends.  It was fantastic.  Weather was really nice and we all shot pretty good.

Here's a target from the handgun range.  .40 XDM @ 7yds.  Rapid fire.

It isn't a straw purchase when nobody knows about it.
Jezz fella, you are getting all worked up over nothing.

No, it is still a straw purchase.  Breaking gun laws does nothing but hurt those of us who follow the rules.

couch covered it.  A .22 is for small varmints and plinking at cans and paper.  Definitely NOT self defense.

If you simply want something cheap to practice/learn/familiarize yourself with guns get a Ruger 10/22.
