Lets talk about classic gun designs that just don't quit.
Also, in before any post about a 1911 or similar copy.

Look back a couple pages, we have been talking about 1911's. A few of us have even posted our own... well, as much as we have so far...

Speaking of buying stuff. Ed Brown just got a nice chunk of my money.

This 1911 is coming together nicely.

Accuracy International makes a chassis kit that fits a Remington 700. If I go AI, I'll go 700 as well. I can't afford to go full AI.

Accuracy International > all others
I'd rather build one of these than an AR10 if I had my way.

Personal protection while at home? Out and about? For the car?.... what and where do you want it for?

This is exactly why I always keep one of my magazines loaded with hollowpoints when I go to the range. I'd carry if I could there but most ranges don't allow it. All the people that work there do though. The indoor range has big thick double doors. Door, small room, then another door. This helps with sound but I'm sure there are auto locks incase shit does go down.

Its not about how old you are, its about nutjobs going by them selves, renting a gun and buying a box of rounds and emptying the magazines into others and/or them selves. Chances of you killing yourself (suicide) are much lower if you're with a friend/family member.

At my local indoor range they rent all sorts of handguns. Only up to .44 Mag though. You have to be 21 years old and its $10 to shoot whatever you want. Its a flat fee so it doesn't matter how many different firearms you want to shoot. You have to buy the ammo though which ranges from $11-$15 for 50rnds. Again, this is only at my local indoor range. Call around and see what the prices are. You'll need to pay for a lane, pay for the rentals, pay for ammo and pay for targets. I usually end up spending around $50 when I go there. That's including a couple hundred rounds. If I go to the outdoor range I only spend $14 + my own ammo.

You'll also probably need to be with someone else if you rent. That's how it is around here at least.

Just saw that movie for the first time a few nights ago. Pumped on Vincent's 1911. Not into the pearl grips though.

Update:

Went to the shop today to get some "work" done, but I ended up playing on the manual mill cutting away at the frame some more. Main spring housing is all fit with a slight bobtail. I had to widen the slot in the frame, cut it deeper and cut the keyways. After that was opened up I sloted the frame for the spring. Also finished the mag release hole to size so that works now. The magwell also has a larger chamfer on three sides. Once it was all fit I blended everything then buffed it.

what advantage do hollowpoints give?

Increased stopping power due to expansion upon impact and decreased chance of pass thru.

Blazer Brass was around $18 last time I went to the shop if I remember correctly.
