Mavic are well due a redesign. Narrow V-shaped rims are proven to not be very good compared to wider rounder rims like Zipp, Enve etc.

I use 25mm gp4000s, can't fault them. Vittoria ride nice but get shredded super quick, heard the same goes for Specialized. I'd stick to Gp4000s or maybe Challenge if you can get them.

I usually take a bag of jelly babies / wine gums out and nibble as I go. Bit of soreen, cereal bars or energy gels too.
