The Bike Shop / Quick Questions

I have been having problems with my hands going numb or hurting while riding my Bianchi San Jose. I am riding the stock stem and bars. I was thinking of trying a shorter stem and cutting my bars to bull horns instead of drop bars. Any other advice would be appreciated.

Are you new to road biking? I found I had this problem when I first started but it went away after a while.. try moving your hands around more or maybe try some specialized BG padded gloves, I've heard they can help. I almost always ride on the hoods on my road bike, never seem to get problems.

What are the best pads for black/worn down rims? Can't afford or justify getting a chrome one at the minute. My brakes are shit at the minute. The caliper is just a cheap Rush one as well, will I ever get it working well with that?

Achieved 30mph on a flat/slightly uphill bit of road thanks to a big tailwind, overtaking a slow car. Felt like a boss.

With road bikes is it best to replace the chain when its stretched past 1mm (according to a chain checker) or just keep running it til the cassette needs replacing due to slipping anyway and do them both? Cos my chain seems to be stretched but I've only done about 700 miles on the bike, not sure what a good mileage is for road bike drivetrains.

Cleaned them all. mtb derailleur bits are such a faff to clean, too many little tight spots that collect shit.

Took it off some sweet jumps and got it muddy. It was fun. Probably going to end up rawing my cranks soon as the paints already looking tatty from rubbing.

They definitely seem easier on hips than straight jumps.

haha yeah I'm just a shit rider. I always have to ride with my brake lever covered (some kind of weird safety blanket thing I have) so it makes pushing the bars into the armpit harder cos I can't rotate my hand round. And I end up doing them bow legged. I would post a pic but it'll ruin the thread ha
