The Bike Shop / Re: Road touring gear? Touring advice?
« on: November 11, 2016, 05:51:25 PM »
Sounds awesome. I can't offer any advice on gear but I suggest you take a couple of overnight camping trips close to home at first. It'll give you a rough idea of what stuff you definitely want to bring and what you can do without and also what it's like to ride a loaded bike. Water purification tablets are a good idea especially if you're gonna be in remote locations. I wouldn't consider dehydrated meals cheating.

As for loading the bike, try to load heavier items on the front rack. This helps with bike handling and stability. A mountain descent on a rear-heavy bike is gonna be sketchy. Consider a frame bag. Use the rear rack or saddle bag for bulky but lightweight items such as a sleeping bag or tent. Bring condoms.

For fucking serious? Both you jackasses that voted 3rd party can literally eat my fucking cock right now.

I get what you're saying. The only reason I did is because I live in a solid blue state.

The Bike Shop / Re: Tire pressure
« on: October 25, 2016, 08:11:59 PM »
I generally keep it around 60 psi or so now that I'm running bigger tires (2.4,2.25). I tried 90 psi for a hot second but it felt terrible and my wrists were screaming.

That's what I was running for the longest time before trying lower pressure. It also depends on how heavy you are.

For flatland obviously harder is better.

The Bike Shop / Tire pressure
« on: October 25, 2016, 06:12:14 PM »
As I'm sure many of you I grew up riding 1.85"-2.00" tires pumped up to 90psi. In part to avoid getting pinch flats after casing a ledge and in part because that was just how you'd set up your bike back then. Then when tires started getting wider I was running the same pressure as before on the new larger tires and didn't think much of it. It wasn't until I started riding big bikes that I realized how the relation between tire width and tire pressure works. Since then I've been gradually running lower pressure on my BMX and don't see myself running rock hard tires other than for a concrete bowl session or something along those lines.

I now run 35-40 psi in the front and 45-50 psi in the back on 2.3" and 2.2" tires respectively. This is really low compared to what I used to run years ago but I've found the bike feels and handles best at this pressure and my wrists definitely agree.

What's your tire pressure of choice?

The Bike Shop / Re: Too much effort to get my pedals off
« on: October 21, 2016, 08:54:39 PM »
Last week my car got a flat tire. I went replace the wheel with the spare tire but apparently the lugs had been tightened by the Hulk. After a bottle of WD40 and a few hours I was finally able to loosen the lugs and change the tire. I guess my point is try WD40. I wasn't expecting it to work but it got the job done.

The Bike Shop / Re: What shoes are you riding in?
« on: October 14, 2016, 09:16:57 AM »
I'm on vans something or other high top. They're ok and have lasted a while but aren't the most comfortable, there are some pressure points on the top of my feet that start hurting after pedaling for a couple of hours. I'm looking to avoid this issue on my next shoes. Might give etnies a try.

Fair enough. The frame looks like a VO Pass Hunter. Sweet bike nonetheless.

Both of those are absolute class. The only thing I'm not sure about is the stem on the Velo Orange(?).

Bike Gallery / Re: Disc brake rig
« on: October 06, 2016, 02:47:24 PM »
I've thought about this and concluded that disc brakes aren't a thing in bmx despite their obvious advantages because of one or more of these reasons:
1. We don't really use our brakes that much riding bmx.
2. When we do use them U brakes are good enough for the most part.
3. Price and simplicity. U brakes are cheap and easy to set up and adjust.
4. Crashing. The prospect of having the rotor cut your leg in a crash. The roots could be prone to damage especially riding street.
5. Looks. People want their bike to look good and disc brakes just aren't very pretty. This is subjective or course.

That's a sweet bike you've got there. What pedals are those?
