Which of these two has more tire clearance and works better?

The Lounge / Lower back issues
« on: August 30, 2017, 02:13:30 PM »
I've been relatively lucky as far as back issues stemming from riding until a few weeks ago I put my foot down on an under rotated 360 and felt the force of the impact travel up my leg to my lower back and feels like something may be out of alignment or something. It's been bothering me ever since. I'll stop riding for a few days and it'll get better but as soon as I start riding again and try a rotating trick the pain will come right back.

Does anyone that's dealt with something similar have any advice as far a back strengthening exercises or anything that might help?

The Bike Shop / Tire pressure
« on: October 25, 2016, 06:12:14 PM »
As I'm sure many of you I grew up riding 1.85"-2.00" tires pumped up to 90psi. In part to avoid getting pinch flats after casing a ledge and in part because that was just how you'd set up your bike back then. Then when tires started getting wider I was running the same pressure as before on the new larger tires and didn't think much of it. It wasn't until I started riding big bikes that I realized how the relation between tire width and tire pressure works. Since then I've been gradually running lower pressure on my BMX and don't see myself running rock hard tires other than for a concrete bowl session or something along those lines.

I now run 35-40 psi in the front and 45-50 psi in the back on 2.3" and 2.2" tires respectively. This is really low compared to what I used to run years ago but I've found the bike feels and handles best at this pressure and my wrists definitely agree.

What's your tire pressure of choice?

The Bike Shop / Wheel building question
« on: October 04, 2016, 01:07:42 PM »
If a wheel  is strongest when all the spokes have the same tension, how do you know what's the optimal tension and does it vary depending on wheel size or spoke gauge? I'm thinking about getting one of those Park Tool spoke tension measuring tools but I don't know if it'd even work with 20" wheels.

The Lounge / Question about weddings
« on: June 01, 2016, 05:33:47 PM »
I could google this but I figured it'd be more fun to ask here.

I've been invited to two weddings this summer. Both of them are old friends from college. I've never attended a legit formal wedding so I'm unsure about what are the social conventions for these things. One of them is a Muslim wedding if that matters.

Should I bring a gift? if so, how the fuck do I know what to get them? Can I just give cash? how much should I aim to spend?

Also, share your wedding stories, preferably tales of debauchery and excess.

BTW I just searched for SM and the link no longer works. I guess it was taken down from the Antidote site. If anyone has a link to it they should post it.

The Lounge / quikreteing spots
« on: January 11, 2016, 07:04:50 PM »
I've never personally done this but I remember years ago people posting about doing it. I found this spot in the woods consisting of a flat concrete platform slightly smaller than a tennis court. It has an 7-8" step down about halfway across and a 6-8" ledge around most of it. It is surrounded by grass on two sides and trees on the other two.

I've brought pieces of plywood, 2 x 4s and wooden pallets and made wedges and random obstacles to ride. Now I'm thinking about buying some quikrete and bringing it over to build small transitions and whatnot. How difficult/expensive would it be to do this? I'm open to suggestions as to what to build. Post photos of quikrete spots if you have them.

The Bike Shop / Chain breakers
« on: November 27, 2015, 05:51:32 PM »
My Fly tractor chain just destroyed my $8 chain tool so I'm in the market for a new one. I have a Park Tool one and I like but it only works with narrow multi speed chains. I assume they make a wide chain version but Park stuff is on the expensive side so I figured I'd ask here for suggestions on less pricey but still ok options.

The Bike Shop / Let's talk about chain lube
« on: November 21, 2015, 11:17:59 AM »
I use Triflow on both of my bikes and it works well but I've noticed that my drivetrain collects a lot dirt and grime this time of year. I'm wondering if it is a good idea to switch to a dry lube  like that waxy White Lightning stuff for the winter. What do you people use?

The Lounge / Frame building courses

Have any of you ever taken one? Seems like it'd be a fun experience and you end up with custom frame at the end. I wonder if previous welding experience is necessary.
