The Bike Shop / Re: What did you do to your bike today? (v2)

The back is mostly tolerable.
I've got taller bars now which helps. I started doing therapy as well. I still have 2 herniated discs and they get irritated if I start pushing too hard. I make regular trips to Canada for mountain biking which is great because you can buy 222's(Codine, Tylenol and Caffeine in a single pill) over the counter; when it gets bad I down a couple.
I've been working on building some new mtb trails a lot lately while the access gates are open. It lead to me finding a killer secluded place to build some new jumps lines which has been getting me motivated to ride the 20" more.
Finally, my co-worker and I placed some big orders for all the new bmx stuff coming out at Interbike which makes me a bit giddy too.

I started putting my Take Time back together with all my Thompson and Ti bits. I dropped a knobby set of tires on it to keep me motivated to dig once I finish the MTB trails.

Dropped another set of pegs on the Morrow, along with a Fiend Morrow stem, 9" bars, Zodiac flat cap. Rode it and then decided my Reverse doesn't cut it. New freecoaster on the way!

Has anyone run a set of brakes on an Alienation Deviant rim.
I know the rims are terrible but it's what I have available to run with a front break setup. I don't want to crush the rim.

Laced up 4 new wheels while the girlfriend and I watched a movie. It was a productive evening.

I rode my Take in front of the house for a while. I was working on half cabs both directions with my freecoaster when I started just goofing around. I ended doing a million what I'll call 'bounce house 360's'. Just cruising along hop 180, land and finish the 360 off the bounce. I was getting 270 out of the bounce but couldn't get a full out.

I made up a new 11t driver for the King hub today as well. This time I made recesses for the chain rollers to seat in and alloy even more chain to driver contact.

Assembled the new ride. Still have more work to do...

How shit were those wheels? I stressed it the whole way home thinking they had to have massive hops.
Text me a pic. I'm putting The Take together right now.

Idiot moment right off the bat today.
I woke up this morning and headed out the door to go take some measurements for the new bike shop we're starting and see that I've left my new wheel leaning against my truck tire all night right next to the sidewalk.

I rode BattleGround/Vancouver yesterday on my trails/DJ/bike, I didn't want to run the knobby Aitken that was on it in the park so I grabbed the wheel I laced up the other day that had an Aitken street tire on it and swapped them out when I got to BG park.

When I got home, I took the wheel out of my turck, set it down and unloaded the rest of my gear. I was tired, and fell asleep early and clearly forgot the wheel outside. Luckily no one in my neighbor hood decided they needed a brand new Marmoset laced to an Envy front rim with DT Swiss double butted spokes. It sat outside for 14hours, plain as day, and easy grab. Luckily, all my neighbors are old folk who don't have a clue about bike gear and theft is extremely rare.

I'm headed back down to the shop to take shipment of our counters/displays now then it's back home to build up my T1 Ruben!

I've been trying to get all of my bikes setup with the parts I want on them. Naturally there has been a lot of part swapping. Unfortunately I don't have a work bench right now while I rebuild it with extra storage/cabinets.
In the furry and wrench spinning and tossing parts from one bike to another I managed to make it look as though my garage puked cycling.
My weekend will consist of cleaning, organizing and getting this snafu all cleaned up.

Cleaned them all. mtb derailleur bits are such a faff to clean, too many little tight spots that collect shit.

If your pulling the derailleur off the bike there is a super simple way to clean them.
Grab a crock pot from a thrift store on the cheap, fill it with water and a little dish soap, not a lot, just a couple drips. If you have grease cutting dish soap use that, but anything will work. Turn the crock pot on low and drop the derailleur in.

The warm slightly soapy water will make grit and grime that's been caked on for years wipe right off.

I'm too cheap to buy a proper solvent tank for my garage(I've got one at work though if I REALLY need to use on). So I use the crockpot method for small parts. Some parts are too big for the crock pot, so I have a big 10 gallon storage container with concentrated simple green and a fish tank water circulator in it for big part.
Between the two, parts cleaning is super simple and easy.

I mounted up the Reverb on my Blur TRcarbon and it's ready to roll on todays ride.

Started putting the Teddy back together but realized I don't like the way some of the parts look on it. Of course, Empire, Dan's and Albes don't stock all the items I want and I'd prefer not to pay shipping multiple times so the Teddy will sit for another day.
The Harrington is nearly done, I'm just waiting on the sprocket and rear cog to arrive.
I hate ordering parts...

thats not a fit...

I didn't mean to imply that it was.
I was saying that I painted it a brown that was similar to the Fit Aitken.

I've always been a fan of Marvin Lotterle's bikes back in the day. I came to the realization that I had most of the parts on hand to make a similar build happen so...
I started assembling a "trail" bike. Started off by painting it an Aitken S2i brown, added an Aitken seat and front tire, some King hubs, Thomson stem and post with Zodiac work, custom headset cap. I'm still on the hunt for the perfect 33 tooth sprocket.

He's not going to surface it IIRC... the 2x4's are like the rungs of a ladder bridge in this case.

Yep. Zane's got it. There is no surface. I just rolled it on my BMX bike and it's nice and smooth even with 100psi in the tires.
I'll grab some pics of it completed once I yank it out of the garage to load it up.
