The Bike Shop / 22 inches

Isnt the problem that the tyres are all terrible? Until someone is prepared to invest in a mold and machine for a really good tyre then that isnt going to change. Hell it took years to get the tyre manufacturers to make the better machines for doing kevlar 20" tyres.
We were asked if we fancied doing 22" tyres and there was just no way to justify the costs on our side and even if we did the factories dont have the better machines for this size, its a catch 22, no decent tyres so poor take up, poor take up so no tyres... Its not like 29" where there are huge numbers of people used to spending lots of money and you can already make it on existing road bike equipment...

A home birth would give me the chills. What if something does go wrong (wrapped around umbilical cord...). Then you are pretty screwed. Id like to go to the hospital just for the sense of security.

They would do exactly the same thing that they would do in hospital and unwrap it.

I am not suggesting that it is good to forgo modern science. Have the scans, take the advice of the midwives etc, but going to hospital can CAUSE problems in otherwise healthy births. The MOST important thing is for the woman (who is the one who will actually DO everything) to be relaxed, its hard to relax in a hospital. It is very common for women to go into labour and then stop when they reach hospital because they are "stressed". In the wild an animal seeks out somewhere it feels SAFE to give birth, if a lion turns up they can stop and run. A useful evolutionary advance. But for most humans this instinct to stop can cause a lot of problems...

Being a dad is fun, you get to play with toys again.

My second baby was born saturday. We have a little boy and a girl now so we're stopping there. The first birth experience was very traumatic. The hospital messed up and had to get a cesarian. The second was a all natural home birth and it felt like that is the way babies should be born.

Congratulations.

Impressed that you went with a home birth after a C section... Both ours were born at home too, its the way it should be, hospital is for ill/injured people....

About a month ago my wife and I started trying to have a baby. Well, last night we found out that she is pregnant! We are so psyched! I doubt any of you guys will care but I just wanna share the good news.

Congratulations. Kids are awesome.

Everyone will want to give you masses of advice and often the most vocal people are those who had bad birth experiences.. try not to let them get to you.  All that really matters is to be relaxed about it. Just try to enjoy it all...

Congrats.

All this talk about wanting a baby and shit at 22-23, fuuuuuuck thaaaaat! Couldn't deal with anything like that for the next 5 years or so (i'm 24 now), rather enjoy myself before i have to stop and buy nappies.

The thing is, that when you are in your mid 30s or whenever with kids you will wish you had them earlier because they are so much fun... Changing nappies etc really isnt a big deal...

I absolutely agree that you should keep registration open if at all possible. We dont need elitism in BMX...
