In.

Leaving would be stupid. Cant be arsed to go into chapter and verse...

I'd rather have the laws backstopped by the rest of europe, I quite like the idea of human rights.

The Bike Shop / Re: Advice needed
« on: February 18, 2016, 07:21:27 AM »
Am hoping someone has an answer for me? I am currently running a bsd raider v1 frame with the back wheel slammed. I have a 2.25 tire fitted now, but am wanting to run white tyres and am hoping to get 2.35. Does anyone know if this will fit the frame? Any advice is much appreciated  ;)

You have the frame so just look. If you look to have substantially more than .05" (1.3mm) of clearance all round now then you might get away with it (though the tyres may well come in oversize, or your current ones could be oversize or undersize).

Hope this helps.

pretty tacky to be chatting shit about other companies...
nobody is a genius like you G

1. Our return rate on cranks was never higher than 10% at the very most. The suggestion that ALL the first gen Wombolts were "made wrong" is ridiculous, there are still first gen cranks out there being used now and we will STILL warranty them if they ever do break because that's what "lifetime" warranty means.

2. We sell/sold a shit-ton of cranks, but have never needed to do a product recall.

My main reason for making this thread was to inform any owners of these cranks that they were being recalled by the manufacturer. And given that even the manufacturer isnt trying to defend the design it seems weird anyone on here unrelated to them would really be that arsed about trying to defend it...

I'm a pretty tacky guy and inclined to say "fuck it" a little more these days. I still hold my tongue 95% of the time, still haven't called out the *** forks that did so scarily badly in the fatigue tests, etc, but when there is a public recall on something and this website is essentially an irrelevant back-water of the internet it doesn't seem that important...

maybe he was in homer mode? personally id just go at it with a hacksaw, as close to the axle as you dare, then finish with a file-alu is nice and soft so should be pretty quick. if you kinda cut vertically just to the side of teh axle, will do you a paint drawing if you dont get what i mean

This is probably the best bet. Cut straight towards the axle, the bearing will obviously get in the way once you are close but you can use the end of a hacksaw blade (or one of those fancy reciprocating vibratory saws if you have it) to get closer, then get a cold-chisel in the slot and bang it in (a bit like a giant nut splitter)  and hopefully you can split the guard enough to break its hold on the axle.

Good luck.

Dip the guard in a saturated solution of caustic soda (sodium hydroxide), aluminium guard will be eaten away leaving steel axle completely unharmed and ready to rock.

marmosets have steel axles now?!

an alu guard should be able to come off by force, big socket on the end of the axle (hubguard side) and fucking HIT IT

Damn I was not on good form yesterday, been a crazy start to the year...

My aluminum hub guard has welded itself to the axle, so now that I need to replace one of those easily replaceable bearings, I can't. Are replacement axles still available anywhere, or am I screwed?

DOH!!!!

Please get in touch with warranty for a replacement.

We had an issue where the factory just randomly changed the tool without telling us and this made the guards super tight on the collars so there was a lot of stress induced in the guard before you even did a single grind. This leads to premature failure. The tool has been put back to how it was originally for all the prototypes now and there should be new guards that are much much stronger available from warranty.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

The Bike Shop / Re: Keychain woes?
« on: December 12, 2015, 05:20:53 PM »
anyone sorted their noisey notchy horrible feeling chain?

my bsd halflink was like this, I ground down the inside tips of the chain plates so they didn't touch the driver, problem solved. can't figure out what the problem is with the keychain though as it's loads slimmer and doesn't rub.

to the eye it looks like the chain has a different pitch than the sprocket? I thought about comparing tooth profile but it looks like people with odyssey sprockets are having a problem as well

Have you tried adding some more lube? Most of the people I have heard with that issue have found lube sorts it.

Would lower the BB about 1.5mm... almost certainly not noticeable except when you are working on your wheel when it will make it a nightmare...

I understand G, but how about this set up for trails-only where going backwards is not a problem? Any benefits over the traditional mechanism?

Like I said in the article, I liked it for being silent, but then again it's helpful to be able to judge your speed. Mine definitely felt like it had less drag too, but that's going to depend on a lot of other factors too and on what that hub is like and what hub you are comparing it to...

You can also get stainless cable ties of varying designs but I have never actually tried them.

When I first got the gland I tightened down the ties as hard as I could, used tools to really tighten it down. The ties snapped immidiatly at the bend when grinding.

My friend, who previously ran Glands helped me out and strapped the new ties a bit looser to the wheel, they held up half a session (~5 grinds) before snapping the exact same way.

Just watched the installation guide on the site and I had them wrapped around the same spoke group. I will give the strap a go and see if that helps.

I tried to remember the bolt style gland-esque guard my friend used a long time ago, but cant remember... Ill ask to see if he does.

The original GLAND (GLAND 1 I guess) was steel and bolted on, the problem was that the spokes took a fair bit of damage despite rubber and nylon washers etc to protect them. If a cable tie breaks its no big deal compared to a spoke, though obviously they need to last dozens of hours of riding not minutes. As I say, for the majority of users they are fine, but I would still like to make any improvement I can.
