The Bike Shop / Extra Wide Rims

I've been a little more removed from BMX trends for a while, and I recently saw that XL rims are a thing. Is this to make the comically oversized tires we already have even a tad wider? Is it needed to run low PSI and not get pinch flats as seems to be a trend these days? Any other advantage? Just curious. Thanks!

Looks like I might have to deal with it, we are still waiting on some tests to come back but all signs point to it. Any tips about ways to deal with it (or fake stuff that sucks to avoid), still ride, or if you had surgery and how that was, please share. Thanks!

The Bike Shop / Odyssey Antigram vs G-Sport Simian front hub

It's time for new wheels, as I sold my old crusty wheels during my time off with ACL surgery. I've narrowed it down to these two options. I'm a heavy grinder sort, so I value them having good guards and both seem pretty quality overall. In the past I had marmoset hubs and they held up great. If you have any suggestions, I'm open to hearing them.

As for now it's these 2 though. It's only $10 difference so I don't really care about that. with only 1.5oz between them, that's not a big deal either. Naturally I wan tot go with the G-sport, since it's the modern marmoset, essentially. Is there any reason to go with the Odyssey, if money and weight are out the door? Does one's guards sit better by the hub or anything? Like the old knight marmoset guards were nice, but the vandero 2 guards from knight were spaced too far away and could hang up on stuff.

The G-sport has angled flanges. Could that be any sort of problem for cross laced rims?

The Bike Shop / Kink Lynx Bars - Experience?

They are for sale on Dans right now for $18, so it seems like a no brainer, but they are a good bit lighter than most bars. I wanted to see if anyone here had used them, and if they held up, or if the light weightiness caused an early failure.

The Lounge / Tips and advice wanted from people that have had ACL surgery.

Next month I go in to get my ACL put back together. It's still held together by like 20%. Also some meniscus damage will be cleaned up. I'v heard all sorts of stories, from "it was the most painful experience of my life" all the way to "It was easy going in recovery, not a big deal at all". Some say to get the nerve block, others say its not worth it. So anyone out there reading this that has been through a similar experience, any tips/tricks/advice about what I have coming up? Thanks.

The Bike Shop / Fixie/SS road bike riders, hub help needed

Ok, my single speed road bike's stock front wheel is pretty much crapped out. I'm going with Profile because of business reasons which are to my benefit (being vague on purpose, sorry).

I have a 28h rim ready, so I'm looking at 28h Profile front options.

They have:

I'm using it for road bike style riding only, not doing tricks or whatever. Does it really matter which one I get? The cyclocross flanges are tiny, and the fixie stuff is super tall, does any of that matter when it comes to normal road riding?

Non-riding Photo/Video/Multimedia Forum / Computer advice 3.2GHz vs 4GHz

The time is coming for a new computer soon. Right now B&H has a refurb iMac for a pretty good deal as far as I can tell. It has a 3.2GHz Intel Core i5 Quad-Core and the new ones can go up to 4.0. I don't know about computers like that. When it comes to processing HD (and 4k in the future) footage, how huge of a difference will it make? Worth a good bit more of money in the long run?

The Bike Shop / 69 degree seat tube angle and seat/post types

Ok here's the deal. Unless I get enough money for a custom, next time i need a frame I'm getting a benny l frame. its the closest i can get to custom for me. I had a frame with a 69 degree seat tube angle before and it put my pivotal seat in a weird position. it was either way too cranked back or so flat forward that it looked pretty off. I was curious if anyone had a picture of a tripod seat set up on a frame with a 69 degree seat tube angle so I can see if that works better with it. Thanks.
