To be fair, I would totally own a gun and knives if they were legal but no way would I want to re legalise guns in the UK or change the current knife laws.

oh  yall kids are arguing cause its fun.the topic could be the size of someones balls and the same 4 or so british dipshits will be at it with the same 3 or 4 overly tactful nerd motherfuckers from the usa.its like a crappy television show

B I N G O

I try to stay out of these threads because of the lack of intelligence that the majority of the posts possess, obviously this thread is no different. Same scenario different thread... Subject a presents said "controversial" item, and subject b says "what the fuck is that for". But it seems as if these stupid arguments are getting out of control and people are posting in them just to start bullshit.

I completely understand that some may not see carrying a knife useful, and thats fine, but if no one is pressuring you to carry a knife then where is your contention stemming from? No pressure, No direct contact, No seen effect should not equal heated argument unless your overly confrontational... and then if your this vocal about things that will never affect you maybe you should become a politician or lobbyist.

It is blatantly obvious that none of you have been stabbed by the "crazy knife wielding lunatics" that the majority of you are depicting us DKC (daily knife carriers) as (and therefore never directly effected by a knife)... and if you think about it logically then if you had been confronted by someone with a knife maybe it would have been in your best interest to have had a tool with you that you could also utilize to save your ass.

Carry a knife everyday and then tell me that you don't use it.

Along with a bunch of other firearms I'm thinking about I'm really starting to want to build a fal for some ultimate target shooting... anywhere I should do some reading so I can figure out what it is exactly I'm looking for. I did a quick gogle search and came up with a couple of links but I know one of you gurus will have some better reading material for me.

I don't remember anything about you...so are you in the military or a veteran, or do you have any shooting experience?

In competitive shooting circles, 600 yards is midrange.

You can't just buy a rifle, scope and bipod and make 600 yard shots on paper.  Well you can, but it will cost much more than $1000.

That being said, some of the most accurate rifles out of the box are Tikka T3s and Savage Model 114 Classics (any savage with an accu-trigger).  The Tikka T3 comes in .308, link below.

700s are good, but overrated and expensive.  If you are just paper punching then why get a large caliber?  22-250 and .223 are highly regarded as great long range calibers for shots on paper, but don't have enough energy at that range for many hunting applications.

Also, to get good groups (consistently) at ranges like that you normally need really good hand loads.  Good glass is important and expensive, but the most important factors are a great trigger, a good bedded barrel/stock, and a correctly floated barrel.

Check out Ruger No. 1's, don't rule out single shots!

Basically don't get your hopes up unless you know what you are doing...and if you do know what you're doing then get a bad ass set up and post pictures!

Luckily my hopes are pretty low and I'm not looking to do any thing EXCEPT have fun, I am not in the military nor am I a veteran. However, I do a lot of reading so when wheeler asked what my approximate range would be I responded with what I could remember as reasonable numbers.

Im not looking to compete or judge myself off of anyone else's shooting just better my own and have fun. Thanks for the advice I will look into some .223. Thanks mang!

IIRC a military range is 600+yardish so probably around 300 meters would be nice, I have little experience and I'm really just looking to be able to go to a range sit down, take my time and make some clean shots... I think that should be my approximate range but I'm looking for any guidance i can get.

Alright so I'm looking for a reliable rifle that I can do some longer range target shooting with. Bolt action would be nice, and I have shot before but not very often or well hahaha... Point me in the right direction so I can do some research because its going to be a good 4 months or so before I can do any buying. Looking to spend under 1000 with a scope and bipod?
