Can you use it without the FSA top cap or is the black piece beneath it attached?

Yeah, the black top cap and screw is all one piece so you have to use the FSA one.

The shop sponsoring our race team is a specy dealer, and we got some great deals on leftover 2015 Tarmacs. I just built mine up, still with the archetypes, but I'll take a pic with the Enve's soon.

First ride today, very different from my Focus. It's stiffer and more responsive, the headtube is a little bigger so I'm up a bit more. Actually think its a little more comfortable overall. It's also very fast despite it being 7.35kg.

Have you got a Feather on the way? Anyone got any tips on a headset expander that will actually work with a Thomson top cap? I've ordered two in at work so far (One23 and some other piece of shit) and both are slipping in my carbon steerer.

I had the same issue. I bought one of those stupid light weight alu ones and stripped it out, tried a couple other expander plugs, everything kept slipping and my headset could never get tight enough. I ended up repalcing it with one of these:

This guy made it's way into my house yesterday!

Just a demo for now, taking it out tomorrow and sometime this weekend. I imagine I'll need to make some room in the basement for it soon...

My X2 slips all the time and I'm about to replace it with a Zipp SL Sprint I think. I need that stiffness.

prefer BB30

Really? You're literally the first person I've ever heard say that.

I have a Red BB30 crank sitting around that I would prefer to use over my GXP Rival which is also sitting around. Parts bin getting full.

I'll probably get a Crux because my team discount gets me 20% off Specy junk. Just wanted to see what else was out there.

Guys, I want to build a cross bike. What Frameset should I get? Mostly for commuting but it must be race capable, disc, prefer BB30 but it doesn't matter, well under $1k.
