Yea basically every part is replaceable. Even the fabric can be replaced separately of everything else. This is a really simple pattern to sew and sort of the secondary to my focus so far. So you could put on a thick one in the winter and thick in summer. You could also just chuck the fabric in the wash, no glues here.
Idea is that it's open source and anyone can access and modify patters as they would like. Do that for free, but could make business by selling fabric uppers, molded rubber parts, etc etc.

Been cracking away at my final university project, it's a 3D printer enabled bike shoe. There's a carbon fiber shank in there and the ffabric just stitches on, whole thing uses no adhesives to bond it. Tested this and it's not quite as stiff as a bike shoe, but walks pretty well. It was designed for bikepackers in mind, so that's cool. This was the first testable prototype from a improvized pattern, I'll sew some nicer stuff the next few weeks.

Just curious if the documentation for these standards is out there for people to use, or if it's the whole licensing deal, or is it me & calipers?

The Lounge / Re: how do i lower camera resolution on android phone
« on: October 07, 2016, 05:39:19 PM »
It might vary from phone to phone as the camera app is usually brand-specific, albeit named generically 'camera'.

My personal trick was to get sawdust inside my phone and on the lens covers rear side - very shitty photos.
I've got one of them Sornys and I just hit the little settings gear and it lays out the option. My auto-mode is just an 8mp picture, manual up to 20.

What kind of cellular android device do you have?

Sorry for the giant photo but I hate you all.
Bike pannier bag I made to try out some new laser cutting and sew-free tech.

The Lounge / Re: Frame building courses
« on: November 08, 2015, 04:05:55 PM »
I took the United Bicycle Institute frame building course a few years back. I did the filet-brazed steel course and built a cruiser. I also took a short TIG welding supplementary course afterwards, where you practice on thin walled tubing. I'm glad I brazed mine because for sure I would have blown fat holes into the real thing with a TIG.

Was a lot of fun and learned a ton. I still ride the bike all the time. One thing I'd recommend is knowing what type of bike you want to build, and being vigilante in making sure you will have the necessary tubing and fixins. For example, there was no butted tube short enough for the seat tube I wanted, so I ended up using a 1 1/4" straight gauge 4130 pipe and now I'm bound by the 26.6 seat tube post. That's the way she goes though.

The Bike Shop / Re: Pedal design devolving?

I know this leaves the realm of BMX, but so far as I'm concerned FUNN is one of those OG brands that I used to associate with extreme mountain bike riding. While their seats and 48h 24" wheels have fallen out of favour, I'll never forget their Soljam viper pedals.

In an article on Bikerumor about their new platform prototype with 'float' they also showed a shot of their plastics with metal pins.

Anybody catch his CNN interview? He's gonna deal with ISIS and steal their oil for America, then pay lots of money to the families of soldiers that die in his quick and effective quelling of extremism!

It's gonna be a HUD. Apparently they have some camera mounted vans driving around California, so maybe that HUD will have pop-ups that show you where to get specialty coffee drinks or whatever.

I decided to do a quick google search and the sources states between a dozen-several hundred engineers are on the project. There have also been meetings between Apple and car manufactors.

It could perhaps be that Apple is trying to reinvent the wheel, but I doubt that they want to make the car completely by themselves. Sure, they have the money, but buying a plant and setting everything up is still a huge (HUGE) risk. Perhaps a iMercedes?

That's where I'd put my money on. Cell phones are seemingly a sure bet to be at the central hub of the mystical 'Internet of Things'. The fact that legislation is keeping your phone out of reach in the car makes it one of the few places where people have some 'distance' from their phone. This is unacceptable for Apple!

Anyways, if you were Apple, looking to get a further play in the IoT market, why not go for the most expensive thing besides a home? Home automation stuff seems to be a bit of a risky play, because the pace of change is too high. My parents house fingerprint deadbolts from a big company on their doors about 7 years ago. They don't work anymore, never really did - they won't be gambling on new tech anytime soon. I've read a few things about these Home Automation things fading out of relevance as fast they appear.

Assuming that home ownership is in decline (in urban NA anyway, renting making the most economic sense in these times) people just aren't investing enough into their rented apartments. But a brain in every manufacturers car, which could be an expectation within a few years (if not already) that plays nice with your phone, that might just be something Automakers would willingly let Neue Big Brother handle.

...and the two will dock together securely ...

I just hope it's better than the connectors of iPhone past. I could see it. I hope they're boxy cause aerodynamics are irrelevant for some reason.. I miss those days.

I just hope Apple/Android Car control platforms come before that. I want to make an app for the NA market that will only run one reverse light at a time, effectively doubling the life of your reverse lights. $1.99 (we double up here)
