The Bike Shop / Interbike 2016
« on: September 22, 2016, 02:06:07 AM »
It is here. Galleries are popping up on some sites, for example ride bmx. Discuss!

I saw the new United Rooftop sig. frame. Not sure if this is a joke or not.

The Bike Shop / Gland 4 installation tips
« on: November 17, 2015, 01:00:43 AM »
I started breaking spokes on a regular basis this fall when I tried to learn how to grind angled ledges. Reason being that I often hit the wheel just above my hub guard. I got a Gland as it protects a bigger area of the wheel and since then my spokes are kept intact.

I do however go through 2-3 (i.e. all) zip ties every session. Almost one every single grind. This is super annoying. Anyone got a tip on how to install a gland and not having zip ties break all the freaking time?

The Bike Shop / Euro/Interbike 2015
« on: September 15, 2015, 09:03:26 AM »
So it is the time of year again. Eurobike has already been as so far I havent really seen any good reports part from a post on Fatbmx that there wasnt really any BMX to be found. KHE seem to have been there though with a new line, so I guess they didnt go under after all.

Interbike is happening this week though, so lets post and comment here.

Anything you guys are looking forward to seeing? Personally I would like to see some new and good/wacky ideas. Not so much for subtle changes to existing products or new products resembling others.

The Lounge / Road trip through germany/netherlands help
« on: May 12, 2015, 04:34:25 AM »
Germany/Netherlands trip help.

So me and two buddies are thinking about going from Copenhagen to Munich and fly back. Trip would be 5 days long.
We ride vert/old-school parks with boxes and bowls and perhaps dirt unless they are massive, absolutely no street.

Anyone got any good tips for parks/spots on the way that we can check out? Using skatemap.de now, which seems to work fine. So far Mellowpark and Eindhoven skatepark are the ones that stands out for me. Please assist.

The Lounge / Simple session 2015 - post show discussion

There is usually a SS thread during the actual contest, but this year the board has been silent.

Anyway; Who watched it and what do you think?
I streamed the final on the train and saw some of the qualification in afterhand.
Im surprised Kris Kyle made it to finals, didnt think he did well at all during qualification.

The tailwhip barspin to barspin was the thing that stood out for me. I didnt know people actually did them over boxes, let alone link it to another barspin mid-air!

The Bike Shop / breaking hs bearings - new frame?
« on: March 31, 2015, 03:38:28 AM »
Hey guys.

Ive been on my frame now for like 4 years. In the last couple of years Ive gone through about 4 lower headset bearings. Whenever I remove the fork it just falls out in pieces.

Ive used different bearings each time and Im riding a Mankind justice frame with a primo strand v2 fork, I also tried other forks and still the same issue. I just install the headset directly on the fork race, no extra races or shims. I tighten with my fingers and give a last little turn with the allen key to secure the fork. It always spin freely with now play.

Can my frame be to blame? I cant see anything wrong, but I guess a deformation can be hard to see. What do you guys think? Can I fix this or time for a new frame?

The Bike Shop / Fixing removable brake hardware
« on: March 09, 2015, 03:00:21 AM »
So I accidently tightened the tiny little bolt for the cable guide on my toptube and tore the threads out from the frame... The cable guide wouldnt sit firmly fixed, I felt like it had a slight wobble, hence the over tightening.
I tried fixing it with epoxy but it didnt really do the trick.

I guess I could try to re-thread the threads, but dont think it would be that stable, as the original already tore off. Any of you guys got a better trick to firmly fix the cable guides to the frame?

The Bike Shop / Pedal design devolving?
« on: February 19, 2015, 04:05:27 PM »
Im in a food coma after eating way too many tacos. In my state of distress I fled to my safe haven on the sofa and started thinking.

When I started riding some 10-15 odd years ago all entry level bikes came with cheap wellgo plastic pedals. One of the first upgrades the kids who got hooked on riding got was to get aluminum pedals. The most sought for pedal were the sealed magnesium pedals.

As the Twisted PCs had a sudden second rise some years ago the high end designs have given way to the mass of cheap plastic pedals. While I myself have retreated to the plastics due to it being easier on my shins, easier on my wallet and arguably lighter I cant stop thinking about the turn of the market as a whole.

So while many companies try to slightly improve on the design I still feel like the market has devolved. The recent trend is, in a way, a further devolvement as also the bearings are removed.

Idk, mostly just a thought. What do you guys think? Has the turn to cheap wear and tear products hindered companies in making more refined designs/products?

After the raging success of the Demolition alu 9t driver the world turned to darkness and chromo drivers ruled the world. But fear not! Colony thankfully decided to bring back the golden days and released this

The Bike Shop / Full-face helmets
« on: October 07, 2014, 09:54:32 AM »
I've realised that I almost exclusively ride large bowls and vert now. This has made me reconsider my preferred safety gear, as I previously only rode padless and with a standard "dirt-style" bmx helmet. I am considering getting a full-face helmet now, but am unsure of what to look for. I have so far mostly been looking for design and price, but perhaps its more to it.
Are any of you guys riding one, or have experience with them? Any experience and tip?
How heavily should weight of the helmet play as a parameter, is it tiring in the long run or barely noticable?
