The Bike Shop / What did you do to your bike today? (v2)

thanks for the suggestions, guys. really appreciated.

profile sprockets won't fit on the 22mm cranks that i plan to get as soon as the 2013 ones are available. and to be honest, i'm a bit sick of seeing the imperial on just about every other build. also, you guys were right about profile stuff being expensive in germany.

i think i will go with a rennen sprocket. they look good and are only $50 shipped.

trying to decide on a new sprocket for my 26" cruiser. or better ... trying to find a decent 36t or even 33t one. not an easy task as it turns out ...

bikeguide really needs to make (slightly) larger sprockets popular again.

planning a new build and bought a set of bombshell 686 brakes, today. free international shipping and $10 less than dans. stoked.

i'm waiting for the following parts to arrive and the wait is killing me.

new frameset:

new hubs (totem):

also made a list of parts that i plan to use with their individual weight. did i mention that the wait is killing me?

white and brown could work.

trans teal reminds me of this awesome 125r:

everything is polished!
with black forks bars and cranks

i wouldn't do trans red, blue, purple or green, then.
aslo, i'm not too much of a fan of painted forks and bars on a silver/chrome frame.

i would either strip and polish the forks and bars as well (would then look very similar to Tom's bike.) or keep the black forks and bars and paint the frame trans black/gray.

it's up to you, of course.

whenever i can't make up my mind about a color theme, i usually browse bmxmuseum for a bit.

that looks really nice.

as for the trans color: i think that depends a bit on the parts that you plan to use for the build.

The 22 Holmes feels like a supergoose did back in the early 80's.  I think this has to do with my body size in relation to the overall bike size and the slacker s/t angle.  I can bunny hop like a mofo on it too... everything is a bit slower happening but not too slow.

I was going to get out of bmx for good, but after reading this comment i would really like to give the holmes a try.

I have never actually ridden a supergoose or any other mongoose from that era, but i got my first bike in 1991, which felt a lot different than today's low and twitchy frames. I too am 9' 11" and 33 years old. Didn't really get to ride any of the bikes that i build over the past 10 years, but i currently own a 20.75" tt fly Pantera 4, which i'm not too happy with when trying to bunny hop. It's not a bad bike, but it doesn't feel 100% right either.

I rode a 24" wtp cruiser, which felt a bit heavy and too big. Do you think i should try the holmes? If so, where did you guys order your sets and how much did you spend? Thanks.

might look like a pos to you but it was my first "real" bike - a 1993/1994 mongoose villain. bought it with my own money when i was 14 (may of 1994). picture taken in may of 1997.

profile cranks & sprocket, haro tires, khe bars, heavy tools forks, fishbone x-ufo, izumi chain and suntour xc-II copy pedals are long gone.

also...

s&m ng dirt bike:

had araya 7x  and super 7x rims and gt dx copy pedals. :(
still have the frame, forks and stem.

i really wish i had more pictures of it. there was a time when it was tan and had a s&m pad set and black skyway tuff IIs with skinwall v-monsters. about a year later it was metallic red and had 2.2" dirt monsters (on the araya wheels) front and back. that was back in 1999/2000, btw.
loved the bike, but it was heavier than a friend's "heavy as f**k".

deluxe:

replaced with a shorter pantera v4.

tnt longfellow:

loved the looks but the built quality was utter shit.

fit s3:

i would have kept it if it had chainstay brakes.

se racing assassin:

one of the very first. if not THE first. i still kick myself for selling it to 3rd gear on vintagebmx. such a beauty.  :(

gt pro series:

i decided to only keep 1 race frame. sold the gt and kept the standard.
