I've heard similar to this. Theres also the plastic version. It's not the kind of thing I would put on my bike. I reckon it would suck for wheel clamping, but be a lot better for your chain. I can't imagine plastic would really rip apart your chain links (and the chain won't be moving during a grind when the guard is pushed into it), whereas if metal bends into the chain it would just fuck shit up.

The biggest problem with drive side guards is that they aren't rotatable I guess.

Glands are the best all round, except for the driver...

i got mine cheap else i wouldnt have bothered. because the guard is aluminium, the chain wore grooves into the inside of the guard. mine is flattened off on the side which is down when running it on the right, but i reckon i could cut a bit off and it would still work good on the left.
its not the ultimate solution to a drive side hubguard, but it will do the job for a few months

swapped my 2 year old steel bead aitken front tyre with a faded redwall which i sprayed black and then all the paint wore off again so it looks really crappy, for one of those pretty smooth fit tanwall ones which looks basically brand new and turned out to be folding. good swap

i use a halflink from a cheap ybn halflink chain in my collapse. i thought it would be total shit (the chain was in my box of spare shit cos it kept breaking when i ran it) and resisted using one for ages, but it lasted about a year before it broke like a week ago.
find someone with a spare one? a shadow link might do the trick as well

what stem is really forgiving though? plus when your chain snaps you can hit your knee really hard on the stem

i might round the back a bit anyway though, then paint it. the polished looks way better than raw

^would have thought some of those super thin dh ones (various brands seem to do them, not that I can name a single one) would be amongst the lightest.

those primo (or other) drive side guards. they any use or do they just bend in? snapped my chain on a feebs today for the first time in what seems like forever, but might get a guard just to be extra safe in the future.
also ive got a 10t ratchet, will it fit? dans says it fits 9t or less, empire says 10t. im inclined to trust empire more than dans but still want to check.

i ran one of the primo metal guards over my 9t coaster, but even then had to put an extra spacer under the guard so it would clear my collapse chain. i think youd be very lucky if it would clear a 10 ratchet.
as for the quality of the guard, theyre ok. not great but should be good enough on opposites. my mate had a rhd wheel for a bit and ran the guard on that, his regular grind side, and its now a bit bent and distorted after like 3-4 months.
it was great when i ran it on my coaster, opposite feebles never felt so smooth
