Title: is greyhound strict about bikes and luggage?
Post by: blueee on December 22, 2016, 12:46:32 PM
most buses I've taken, Vietnamese bus, sf-commuter bus and even bolt bus (owned by greyhound) let me just throw my bike and big framed backpack in one of the spaces under the bus, no hassle. seems like greyhound have same rules about luggage as airplanes, and the one time I rode them, they sucked and kicked me off. well has anyone just shown up with their complete assembled bike and luggage and not been given shit for it? they say only one piece of luggage so I have to break down my bike, wrap it in a towel and tape and throw all my clothes and shit in there too, really annoying, has anyone shown up with a bike and luggage and not been hassled or charged extra for it?

if I just broke it down to wheels ulocked to the frame would they give me shit for not having it wrapped up? anyone have positive experience with bikes and greyhound?

fuckers kept asking me what's in my bag. pretty sure they ~wanted~ to charge me. 'tools,' I said. when I arrived at my destination I once again gave that answer and the dude was like "you know you can't just bring them there tools, you know the rules, that's why you loaded your luggage yourself, don't do that again, you only s'pose to bring clothes on here" uhhh I loaded my bag myself because I wasn't about to walk away from my bike/luggage just sitting there on the sidewalk

I've only caught the greyhound once and they didn't give a fuck about my sketchy looking bike in a dufflebag. By the sounds of things I might've broke the bike down a bit more than you though.

why would it shrink this image so far down?

10minutes to take apart bike
10 minutes to smash bikeframe into backpack and start wrapping it up
another 20 minutes to realize i could/should pack it way tighter
another 20 minutes of wrapping twine and clothes around it
another 20 minutes questioning whether im going to make it home with my bike
*
15 minutes unpacking
15minutes re-assembling bike

Why couldn't you use a cardboard box?

I've taken 11 Greyhound buses thousands of miles, and in my experience nobody gives a fuck about anyone or anything.
