Anybody know when those remakes of the classic GT bars are coming out? Wanting a new 4 piece bar but I don't want to get one and have the GT's show up right afterwards.

#Ben Ward #Bob Scerbo #lols
Why do we get pissy about people ripping off 4 piece bars but we insist that all 2 piece have to more or less look exactly the same?
-
Hah! Scerbo didn't do himself any favors when he talked about the dispute with animal and "his" bars.
-
What was the dispute? I never saw anything about it.
-
Sunday have some bars coming out that have the same look.
-
What was the dispute? I never saw anything about it.
Look at skapegoat256 instagram post from 5w back. Photo of Bob bars calling out GT
-
$cerbo : The reason the bars got discontinued was that Animal wanted to do the bigger ones and they wanted to use my name on them and I said no, so when they got made I told them they can not do mine anymore, I thought the bars were fine the way they were. Just some bullshit really. I would like to remake them as Skapegoat bars but I don’t really want to go that route and be a bike company because it never seems to work out well for people who choose that. Obviously the politics with me and Animal goes a lot deeper than that but that is the simplest way I can explain it.
-
You can't deny that the only reason anyone rocks 4-piece bars today is directly because of Bob. The Bob bars were the only 4-piece bars around for a while and they weren't exactly the coveted item they are today. 4-piece style was dead for about a decade or so until the last few years.
-
I'll say that the reason people have 4 piece currently isn't because of him. Thankfully most look better than those stupid things, save the T1.
-

It's cause this generation of pros grew up on Bob's Animal videos. Honestly I can't think of another pro outside of Ryan Worcester and Marv in Nang that had any non-2 piece bars in that era. 6-piece bars has existed at one point
-
run what bars you like.
at least theres options now, at one point almost every single bar was a slam clone 8 high 12 back 1 up
-
I started riding 5 years ago, saw an ad of Björn Elvering doing a handrail with some 4pc bars, I had no idea what they were called. When I found the WTP Everlites only I immediately bought them. Been riding 4pc ever since.
-
Went to Asia for some high stakes ping pong, in ding dang. been shitting pancakes ever since.
-
GT also influenced 4 piece bars with the Powerlite bar, which S&M Brian Castillo (and Dave Parrick) rode in BMX Inferno https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgT7RFjVqaE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgT7RFjVqaE), before Brian Castillo got his own bar made.

Powerlites are the best bar ever made.

Powerlites are the best bar ever made.
I recall there being some British park shredder who was riding them in the early 00's. Anyone remember who that was? He was in Props videos, contests, etc.
-
Could have been Jerry Galley, Scott Malyon, Stuart King or one of those boys, everyone seemed to have them for a while.
Might be thinking of Marv too, those lot I listed above are maybe late 90's.

Upped cause he was probably the last person to ride those gash bars.

Kind of close but I imagine it'd be impossible to get the look of the powerlite bars with while retaining today's sizes.

Amos Burke?
-
Chris Hardy?
-
You guys remember the Powerlite bars that hand the bend in the grip? They felt great.
-
From memory those seem like much more backsweep than the current outlier.
-

I'd be tempted to run a set for a little bit of extra clearance in certain places for flat, if I could get sub-8" ones that were the right shape

Some thoughts on 4 piece bars.

I find it very strange that even flatlanders don't ride sub 8 bars anymore and they like it wide! So bizarre.
-
Looks like Bob is getting his own bars made?

thats cool. i still couldnt run them unless they were taller though

Interesting points. What do you think is the difference (if any) between "intrinsic value" and "subjective value"?
I think Sean Burns can also be credited with bringing 4 piece bars back.

Thank you!
Interesting points. What do you think is the difference (if any) between "intrinsic value" and "subjective value"?
I want to say subjective is based on someone own personal values compared to intrinsic which is something that is widely felt.
Apple has intrinsic value cause of the whole cult they build around their products. Subjective would be more like I like Apple cause it was my first computer. I don't know if there is cutting point from when subjective becomes intrinsic or if it's just an overlap like all rectangles are cubes but not all cubes are rectangles type thing.

the scerbars feel the closest to regular modern 2piece bars, and I think most of the new giant copies look ridiculous, but I cringe reading the drama stuff and feel like bob should just let it slide and then re-re-re-release 'his own' again in 12 years
-

Cubes and rectangles are not the same at all

Are those the Hoffman bars? Man I would love another kneesaver style bar! Shame the hoffmans are a tad low at 8" (I am very tall).
Might get the Quest bar, not as nice but 9"
-
yeah they're 2015 hoffmans.
I like those quests... never seen them before. I think george made some that looked kind of like those at one point? They do look a lot like bars in dmfbmx2, which was the reason I got the hoffmans - because they looked like modern mirra bars, and I figured since they were hoffman they were technically modern pre-mirras... I feel weird about them now. also, not enough sweep for my liking

I'd be happy to take those hoffman bars off your hands...lol

haha i meant squares not cubes!
That Tao with the Scerbos, blue Jump Off, and Walls looks BOSS though
-
it's actually a quamen g86/bottleopener frame with Standard strip bars and a snafu knobjob + an ody elmsteet
I'd be happy to take those hoffman bars off your hands...lol
check bmxmuseum, you should still be able to pick some up for ~$45

I remember being excited to hear that Odyssey was gonna make a 4 piece bar but then those 4x4 came out and they are the ugliest 4 piece bars ever made in my opinion.
I think as far as big 4 piece bars go the T1 and Animals look the best. I'm riding the T1 right now and could not be anymore happier.
-
So what's up with the skapegoat bars? I can't find their website, or anything about them really.

Volume's arent bad looking.
I can't get into them.....the new hoffman low drags look sweet

I got some sort of mongoose from the dump a few weeks ago with big chrome powerbend bars and primo logo grips... psyched.
also, why have I not seen anybody else mention mat breaking his old height record, on a 30ft ramp, in 2015?
...I started playing around on Big Ramps again. I rode one in March at the Old School get together at Woodward West in Tehachapi, CA. I was pushing 20 feet comfortably and felt I could go higher than I had before. There were a lot of people around and I knew I needed to do this just for myself to get the focus needed. I had been in the ER many times recently, so I second-guessed myself and walked away to prove I could and to give it more consideration. It kept burning bright, so I decided it’s in me and I had to let it come out.
I’ve been riding a lot but also flying wingsuits, which I think has helped me cross train by harnessing aggressive energy better, become one with it and flow, like the big ramp demands. Painting more has helped sharpen my focus too, plus I’m 43 years old (the holy grail of BMX or so we claim), so I decided I was mentally ready to take on the challenge.
Danny Way talked to me earlier in 2015 about designing a ramp to get more air. He wanted to go so high nobody would want to step to it. So he built this ramp (30 feet tall), kept it a secret and was ready to test it out this past May. At the same time, I had committed to push my limits on these big ramps again too, so the timing was perfect… he invited me out for the test ride.
I went out there and had a private session. I set up some unmanned cameras and filmed the whole session(s), which I’ll show later this year. I was able to break my past record. This sketchy pic was one I shot of a camera screen from one of Danny’s friends who captured it at my first session. It’s definitely not print quality but I liked how the style was so much like the original air I did on my original Big Air ramp in 1991, but higher.
It’s now been 25 years since I made a bike I could trust my life with going bigger than ever before. Let my life be an example to never give up, follow your heart and do what you want no matter how many times you’ve been knocked down and people tell you you’re crazy or it’s impossible. Keep getting up and keep your dreams alive. Keep your game true to your heart and push your life’s passions and skills, no matter how ridiculous they may seem to others. Always following your dreams to wherever they lead….
Love Life and make your dreams happen, no matter what! This is what 25 years of Hoffman Bikes is about to me. I was 18 when I set my first high air record. I had to build a bike I could trust my life with to achieve this. Now I’m 43 and I still make a bike that can back my dreams no matter how big they go….

28.5 X 9" or so, might be a bit taller/shorter, but it's right about 9. I don't know about using them for tricks and stuff, but just wheeling them around they feel really good.

I don't really ever sell anything, but you've got dibs on them if I do

Thanks, been wondering about this
