Approx bronze age. Bg dad chat: came to renew my mortgage yesterday, turns out I'd paid £41,000 over the first 5 yr period, 37k of that was interest. 'Oh bother' I said.
-
Aye mortgages are a shiter in that way. I put an extra £100 a month on top of mine, worked out decent as after 5 years of owning when me and the ex-Mrs sold it I had an extra 6k put into it.
-
Mortgages are a fucking joke, I pay 650 a month and only 110 is actually taken off
-
I turn 32 at the end of next month.
It doesn't feel right at all. Seriously, I feel like I'm perpetually 27 now. Except that I own a house and have practically adopted my girlfriends kid.
-
I turned 29 yesterday.
-
1.9% with zero fees now though losers, sexier than anything from the 'attractive women' thread (rip).
-
Just turned 29. Still no savings to speak of because I'm choosing location over income. When will I learn? At least I get to ride something every day.
Dreading every single step towards the inevitable shift of emphasis from flexibility to income. ):

Dayumn, that is low.

Same. Even rent is getting ridiculous around my side of town at the moment. $375/week for a townhouse with fuck all storage space.

Turning 29 here come May.

What are the details on a loan like that? How long of a term are we talking? I'm at 3.875% for 30 on a non conforming jumbo, pretty much caught the bottom of the market.
-
29 in April.

450 pw 3 bed 2 bath, split with my gf tho so half that. still pricey when all youre doing is helping someone else pay off their mortgage. perth prices are fucked generally, mining boom is over everyone, srsly
-
I'll just sit back and wait for Barnett to fuck your state even harder. When Nehan starts screaming for more GST and everyone else says no, then I might buy up in Freo.
-
Its 2 yr fixed, with the bank of Ireland I think, paying just under 100k off over 17yrs, £580 pcm. While 90% of my money has gone straight in the bankers wallet, our house has increased in by value (middle class gainz yo) so our mortgage to house value is now just below 75%, my grown up missus says thats a good thing in mortgage terms....
If this thread can be made any less bmx, ill be impressed, anyone have any exciting jam making plans next year? Herbaceous borders going to be big in 2016? Anything hot in practical knitwear?
-
I'm 36, youngsters.
-
46 in March
-
I'm 28 and in the last 3 months I've become a mountain biking, kitten fathering home owner that still rides BMX twice a week. Life is good!
-
28 up in dis bitch!
-
29. I have old man back.
-
29 this year. Everything hurts.
-
23. Quit riding to wear a suit every day and make rich people richer. Sound.
-
28 in a month. Married. Have an apartment finally. Still ride every weekend. Decent job. Life is pretty pretty good.
You dudes that are my age and owning houses make me feel inadequate.

Southern California is one of the worst real estate markets in the country though.
32 years old. About to get married this year and then travel around for a bit longer. Trying to wait on having a family until I've gotten most of my wild oats sewn.
-
28 years old. Not married but will have been living with the lady for a couple years this spring. Kids; hell nah. No pets anymore either, and not in a huge hurry to adopt more.
Would eventually like to own a home but the housing market where I live and work is fucking bonkers right now. I'm hoping my landlord decides to sell off some of her buildings in her old age so I can actually buy one for a reasonable price (she's done it before and I've known her for years so that's not as implausible as it sounds). Either way, I like my neighborhood and I'm staying here even if I have to keep renting.
Business ownership includes enough responsibility that I feel like a real adult finally, but I'm still afforded enough free time to have fun. All in all enjoying my late 20s, the lifestyle is pretty good.
-
28
-
I am not sure, I think I am 27 , man the years have passed , lower back surgery , now can hopefully pickup riding again in the spring after a year off , before I could only ride littlebit. disc prolapse.
-
24. Got my career sorted out a year ago and currently still living with my parents and stacking money to buy a house in the next year or two. Barely ever ride my bike anymore but I still skate all the time.
-
30, gf, dogs x2, mortgage (which we just renewed @ £200 per month less than we were paying and shortened the term by 12 years, yes m8).
Not ridden a bmx in 2 years, just come here out of habit. I ride road and mtb all the time though, which probs make me no different then most of the 25+ guys on here.
-
24, living in a flat with my two cats. Looking at getting a house/mortgage with a friend. Haven't ridden BMX in years, starting to get career shit together and it looks as though I'm going to finally finish learning to drive.
-
i still ride at least 1-2 times a week, got an awesome scene where i live with people of a variety of ages to ride with though which makes a huge difference. everyone meets up at the skatepark on wednesdays, and theres always plenty of beer and other substances for riders who dont actually wanna ride and just hang out instead. pretty lucky
-
25, worrying about my tax return. Still ride a lot, not making much improvement, enjoy it but wish I had some trails. Most of my good friends from BMX have bigwheels now.
-
18, officially Bikeguide's youngest member or what?
-
Just found out my sister+brother-in-law are up to their eyeballs in mortgage repayments and credit card debt. Both just hit 30 and only lived on their own for 2 years. A part of me is concerned, but a little part of me is giggling my arse off at the hypocritical austerity language they are now using.
-
Will be 30 in a few weeks.
-
24. Though in the shower the other day I had to do math to remember how old I was. Luckily at first I was thinking I was 25 but it didn't seem like I was that fuckin' dusty yet.
-
20 ,being a member of dadguide.org Haven't touched my bike in months. :-\ did however take my wife and son to the oss shop on a sunday last weekend (mind you, it's in the shit ass part of shit ass los angeles) and it felt weird not needing anything from a bike shop. Still working full time 6 days a week trying to make the best of what I have for the time being. Wife is finishing up her culinary degree atm, son is 7 months and some change.
-
Mortgage stuff sucks. Lucky my place is only $150,000. But in the middle of bum fuck nowhere but it's 15mins from work.

It's pretty nice really 1/2 acre block, 2x1. With a 6mx6m shed. It's enough room for the wife, 2 dogs, 2cats and myself. Plus it Backs onto bush land so soon as I pull finger I'm going to build a pump track or baby trails with lots of table tops
-
That sounds excellent. A part of me wants to move out a bit further, get a decent block and work from home, but there's no good pubs.
-

drink at home, be a hermit.
-
I'm a social butterfly. Oh, and I need to be close to the airport for work.
-
The town closest to me (7k away has three pubs and a cidery). This is about to get full blown old man but I'm really loving having a veggie patch and some gardens. Hate mowing the lawn but feels good mowing my lawn

i'm not 100% on retail residential mortgages in the UK, but after your initial two years fixed terms, you have no more penalty to shop around. This means a basic move called re-financing is possible - basically you find a bank that offers lower interest rate, you shift your mortgage over to them, the new bank pays off the amount you owe the original bank immediately in a lump sum, then you owe the same amount OF PRINCIIPAL to the new bank. and since they use a lower interest rate, you end up paying less as interests.
you can therefore decide to pay the same amount each month and pay off the house sooner, or stay with the same payment period and pay less each month.
you can basically just go into each bank and ask to talk a a mortgage advisor, and tell them you're ready to refiance your house, and you'll be shopping around all the banks for the best rates, then ask them what they can offer. shop around and let the banks offer you rates.
-
Just found out my sister+brother-in-law are up to their eyeballs in mortgage repayments and credit card debt.
if you feel generous enough to give them a piece of advice, credit card debt is the worst debt that one can have, since they charge an effective interest rate of 20-60% APR, whereas a mortgage can be from 2%-7% APR. What they want to do, is to ask the bank if the mortgage can be extended at all, and reborrow however much is needed to pay off teh credit card debt IMMEDIATELY.
sell a liver, rob a blind 5 year old autistic grandmother or whatever, steal cigarettes instead of smoking, whatever. pay off the credit card debt IMMEDIATELY.

Yep this is true. I ended up saving quite a bit on my monthly repayment with my first house when I did this as I rushed with the original mortgage due to pressure from the seller / estate agent.

Don't worry, I know all this and I probably should tell them but I'm too busy dying from a dire case of schadenfreude.
-
Credit cards can be a good way to get short term low interest finance. After I racked up a silly amount of overdraft as a student I moved it onto an interest free credit card and pay it off monthly before the 0% offer runs out. We also use one to pay our car insurance as its cheaper to pay it in one go than on a monthly basis, and then just pay it off each month to the credit card.
In regards to the mortgage, definitely best to remortgage every few years and get a cheaper deal. We went through a broker with our first mortgage, £250 fee and he will remortgage our property for as long as we are in it now for no extra cost.
-
Don't worry, I know all this and I probably should tell them but I'm too busy dying from a dire case of schadenfreude.
apologies if i come across as patronising, been on this board for so long it always felt like we're all a bunch of teenagers.
-
Still a teen at heart I think.
As for remortgaging, they haven't had the house long enough to do that and it would only be a small saving in any case. I think they've just sorely underestimated the costs of the real world and have no desire to change their lifestyle.

Need to add to this adult chat - just found out the gf is preggers with twins.

Need to add to this adult chat - just found out the gf is preggers with twins.
You're a lucky man. We're going to the doctors Wednesday to see if we can even have kids. Fingers crossed that we aren't a couple incapable of having kids
-
Is that a good preggers, or a bad preggers? At least with twins you can get it all out of the way at once. Who in their right mind would want more than 2, honestly.
-
my gf is militantly against having kids, score!
-

Good preggers (one would have been better but beggars can't be choosers), been doing IVF for the past year so i'm just glad that shit is finally over.
-

Ahhh, such a good life. Doing whatever the fuck we want. No bags, no pills, never a worry about shooting a mistake. Score indeed Ben.
-
Yeah my Mrs has no interest in kids luckily, one of these career types. Saying that, twins would be good as you get them both out of the way at once, would probably save a few quid in the long run. Until they both want to go to Uni or pester for bikes / cars / Playstation 8s at the same time.
-

Congrats you guys are definitely safe then, phew!!
(tick tick tick....)
Also exciting news obituary fans, i have a hernia in my hip, im trying to sell it as a sports injury, but kidding no one.

Congrats on that. One is pretty tough, so two is definitely going to be a struggle but will be worth it in the long run. My gf is a twin and she loves it.
My neighbour has been doing IVF and just found out she's having triplets......
-
Need to add to this adult chat - just found out the gf is preggers with twins.
Shit scunny thats luda!!! congrats

Hey there!
It's been a while
28 in march, getting married in august
-
27, joined this site back in 05.
-
Turning 25 this spring. Didn't feel too old before I stumbled in here. Man, it's been years since I frequented this board. I quit riding like three years ago but now I've been looking at mountain bikes... So expensive though.
Currently getting my master's degree in economics. Already moved from graphic t-shirts to polos, button ups and blazers. I also started playing golf, and became interested in wine. My gf says that I'm a 40-year-old man trapped in a 24-year-old body.
-
I've gone from wanting kids through to figuring out I'm too bloody selfish and don't really want them. The wife has gone from not wanting them to wanting thinking I'd be a good day.
Twins would be the best way to get it over and done with really.
Congrats to the future folks of familyguide
-
Just found out I'll be joining dadguide.....crazy
-
Congrats to all y'all having kids! I got married on the sly a couple weeks ago. We found out my fiance's grandfather has stage 4 lung cancer, maybe 3-6 months to live. So we booked it out to LA and did a quick backyard thing with just 5 or 6 family members. We're still going to have an actual wedding spring 2017 but I'm officially hitched as of now. We plan on having kids but probably in 3 years or so. We want to try and get a bunch of traveling and fun things done before settling down.
We've also got a decent amount of credit card debt from moving twice in the last 2 years and having to pay for a surgery for one of our dogs. We've decided to start using You Need A Budget this month and try to keep our spending habits in check. I made a ton of money over the last six months and have very little in savings to show for it. I got a bunch of awesome outdoors stuff and a full fly fishing setup though!
-
35, 2nd kid delivery in the next 0-9 days.
-
27. 27.
-
my baby....sooo excited. due date is oct 15. is there a dadguide thread? lol

-
Yeah, this is pretty much it.
-
Damn Bikeguide is getting old ;D
I'm 26, still ride a few times a week. I've been working out and stretching everyday so I don't feel so sore after riding.
-
29 napping under a tarp fort in the Nola sunshine/rainstorms on a weekday afternoon
with a stripper, a pirate and a spring young chicken
-
So my partner and I separated at the beginning of March, single dad life for me now. It's weird as fuck having all this free time and I feel slightly younger than I did before, but at the same time even older.
-

Why'd he break up with you?
-
I stopped letting him jizz in my butt.
-
I stopped letting him jizz in my butt.
Fuck I don't blame him.
For real though, that's a bummer. Hope everything works out for ya'.
-
It is what it is for now, but thanks man! I'm just distracting myself with work/study/sport/pussy and that's going ok so far haha.
-
Despite distraction that sucks. All the best in making it work.

It pleases me immensely to know that your girl left you with the kid so that she could find out how good the aboriginees are in the sack
-
That is bad, even for you. Lift your game, honestly. You're just embarrassing yourself now.
-
So it really doesn't bother you that bogans are currently stretching her vagina out beyond repair?
I guess the next step is for you to hold the camera and her hand, while your baby screams and cries from the next room.
-
A new low for Cole. I'm impressed, honestly. You've really outdone yourself this time!
-
Shiiiit
-
I feel like I'm in a CoD lobby with a retarded 12 year old. Cole, did you fuck my mum?
-
It would be cool if you could come back with something new, instead of going on about me being a cunt or stupid.
But, I get it, you're distracted by the thought of being left paying for a child while your girl goes cock crazy
-
You do such a good job of making yourself look bad that I barely have to think about my response.
As for my ex, she could do with a good dicking to be honest.
-
For fucks sake, Cole. The first comment was an okay zinger at best. You're only making yourself look like an ass while trying to beat up on someone when they're in a rough situation. Though maybe that's tough to comprehend for a bitch made internet tough guy.
ginger's right. It'd be one thing if you were actualy funny, but you're on par with 13 year olds on XBOX right now. "LOL ur EX is having SEX" x3. Are serious dude? That's the best you have? Fuck outta here.
-
seriously cole, youre an idiot. in a thread where everyone is talking about responsibilities and life after being a bmx punk kid, you come in with that kind of troll shit. cant believe im even having to say this but grow up. for your own sake, as well as ours
-
I'll be 25 in July. Hard to believe I started my park rat BMX days 10 years ago and now I am getting ready to sit for my CFA and CFP designations. Times change and careers get in the way I guess, I still miss blasting quarters at the park though. I don't miss the fact that I knocked my teeth out doing so....
-
I still don't think of myself of more than a punk kid. Level 3 punk kid with brain damage and sterilized, otherwise the same.
Speaking of one of those traits, ginger, a vasectomy ain't shit. Do it.
-
A part of me wants to get the snip done, but at the same time I can't fully commit to it just yet. If my daughter hits 10 and I haven't found anybody else worthy of my seed, I'll probably get it done. Fuck having more kids that late in life.
-
I bet the apple won't fall far from the tree, and she'll run away to follow in mom's footsteps as soon as she can.
-
I'll be finding the gender of my baby later this month.
ginger, that really sucks man. If me and my wife had to separate I think I'd lose my shit. Hope things pick up for you soon.
-
I bet the apple won't fall far from the tree, and she'll run away to follow in mom's footsteps as soon as she can.
You really are pathetic.
-
Cole, reign it in on the personal attacks or you'll get banned.
-
Goddamn that's some hate.
-
fite me irl
-
In before he warns you about 'how tough he is' due to his
extreme (Canadian) 'army experience' of whatever it is he does/did.
-
Fuck off Cole, project you insecurities somewhere else.
Nice to see the majority of us are functioning adults though so there's a silver lining to his immaturity.
And sorry to hear about the split Ginger, not sure what I would do if it happened to me, I'd be a mess.
-
Damn ginger that's some bad news about the relationship man. Hope things work out for you man
Also green square for not lowering yourself to Coles level
-
31... up until recently I rode maybe a dozen times in 7 years or so... but since I'm going through an existential crisis of sorts... I've dumped some cash into parts, and shoes, and have been riding as much as I can... Sucks I lost all the rad tricks I could once do, but am now too scared to do... But I did finally learn to air out and do tables. so i suppose life is ok. Everything else though... trying to save up for a year or two of that van life and a move to the west coast.
