being utilized by Pascal Lafontaine who lost one of his legs recently to cancer. so awesome that people are putting resources into developing stuff like this

I wonder if these would be useful for a non-amputee. I can imagine riding a platform pedal without pins, feet might slide around though.

wow that's amazing. I remember seeing the video he put out right before going into surgery and thinking it must be devastating to lose such a talent, so I'm really glad to see him back on a bike, spirits unbroken. and I know it's a cliche, but he still seems better than I am, much respect.

That's cool. Stronger grip than your average but might be easier to hit the ejector seat than spds/straps. I'd guess it'd be good in the wet too.
Props to that dude.

yeah good design with the different magnet strengths you can switch out. just super awesome for him that he can still ride

Magnetic pedals would be interesting to check out.
I guess they couldn't really replace clip in shoes in mtb and road riding, because those require that you have a lot of resistance for pulling the pedal up... but then very little resistance when you do a different motion with your foot to unclip.... If the magnets were strong enough for you to pull up on the pedals, then it would also be very difficult to "unclip" or "unmag."
On a random-ish note, Pascal's foot cancer made me wonder if that's what Bob Marley died of. Apparently he had a different type of cancer in his toe, but didn't get it amputated and ended up dying.

Didn't he die of skin cancer?
