Title: FAO big sprocket/driver hunters
Post by: dude... on April 21, 2015, 02:36:11 AM
I know some of you have voiced your frustration on here before at not being able to get hold of sprockets and hubs with drivers as large as youd like these days.

I spotted the following available on tree's website, so i thought i would share

30-39t spline drive sprockets (http://store.treebicycleco.com/product/sale-33-36t-sprockets)

11-16t 2pc thread on drivers (http://store.treebicycleco.com/product/two-piece-drivers)

not sure what hub internals tree hubs use these days, as far as im aware they used to be joytech but those look more like the old proper hubs-maybe someone can clarify, so you can work out what hubs theyll fit

I don't think many companies have used Joytech (Ody style) in about 5 seasons. Most seem to be Chosen. I'd really be keen to find out if these drivers will work with other hubs with 17mm axles like Shadow and BSD.

they do custom bored ones to 15/16 (cos theyre normally 22mm), so email them and ask if they can do 24

Joytech is 3 pawls with a single circlip like spring going around the driver, over the pawls which gives the springiness to the pawls. I know thats vague but Ody, demolition and a bunch of others used it especially on complete bikes. The width differed between a few models so it might not be a one hunna percent accurate fit.

chosen use/have used the same 3 pawl circlip spring system in their drivers too, though the dimensions were different to joytech so the parts arent interchangeable

15/16 and 24mm are the same thing (in the BMX crank world)

Chosen and Joytech are different sizes, that's the major difference. I'll get some photos.

Finally got some pics. Ody/Joytech (grey) and Shadow/Chosen (black). They are really similar in size but the Odyssey is a little taller and has bigger bearings and pawls.

Both fit an Odyssey hub (didn't try the Odyssey driver in a Chosen type hub). Both fit the axle fine (same ID on bearings) but the Shadow pawls are still exposed when in the hub as far as it will.

A certain terrible one told me that he just sent in the order for more sprockets and they should be done by summer... Finally I can scoop up a Logans Run in 33t.

I still have a 30t tree spline drive sprocket. 5-6 years oldish?

Is it rare yet?
