Title: The Music Thread
Post by: Alex. on March 20, 2015, 09:08:32 PM
Looks like we lost the "Weekly Music Hyped-Ons" thread so time for a new one.

I made a Spotify playlist of some of my favorite early 2000 songs. If you like pop-punk, I recommend giving it a listen. You'll probably know a lot more of the songs than you thought.

Digging the new Kendrick and Modest Mouse releases.

I hated the new Modest Mouse album the first go around but it's growing on me. I felt the same about their previous album, I don't know something about Modest Mouse makes me it hate it first then after a while I'm like 'this is nice.'

The new pink Floyd album is amazing

Listened a couple goes in spotify and read a bunch of reviews; where neither left me feeling real good about it. Definitely something to listen all the way through uninterrupted (not spotify).

Yeah I often find new Modest Mouse albums quite abrasive at first but once you get the feel of it they're great.

Loved all the stuff before they broke up, hated the change in sound when they reunited, would love to see a nostalgia tour where they did the old songs exclusivly.

Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes album Blossom is pretty awesome. If you liked the first Gallows album you'll probably love it.

I got the latest Kendrick album after seeing him smash it at Reading and thought apart from a few standout tracks (King Kunta, Alright, i and a few others) it's pretty overrated from all the hype I've read about it online.

I wanna love it as I love Gallows but maaaaaaaaaaan to step out of gallows and say "hate" is a bad thing and start that super shitty band turned me off frank haha. Also minus cool points for his name being in the bands name.

I like metallically (is that even a word haha) hardcore, metalcore, some pop etc

if you're bored and like older street punk/80s hardcore you can check out my band. This is our ep from last year and our lp is out this december via collision course records www.antithought.bandcamp.com

Listened to more classic rock in the past week than I have in the past ten years probably. Listened to Dark Side of the Moon for the first time from start to finish last week, holy hell, absolutely amazing album. "Time" is one of the best songs I've ever listened to. Lots of Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, the Who, the Clash, George Harrison... Lots and lots of good stuff.

You guys have any more recommendations? Tired of listening to the same electro, country and hip-hop that's been made in the last 15 years.

Also, tons of Watsky and Yelawolf.

24, was just never really into classic rock. When I was younger I wanted to be just like my cousin, and he listened to a lot of rap and hip-hop, so I spent my formative years listening to that. Then once I was 17 or 18, it was more of that, electronic and country music until recently. Now I'm finding id rather listen to a complete album instead of putting my entire library on shuffle.

Wintergatan. Multiinstrumentalist band from Sweden with different influences. Probably known for their marble machine on youtube. Saw them live yesterday and they're awesome and super chilled as well. Got a free album, too.

Anyone check that Free band that's 4/5 of Have Heart?

No, but now I will.

Wish my car had spotify instead of sirius. I just thought to look up the new Expolsions record. Like their previous efforts one listen on tinny laptop speakers is a poor experience.

Prodigal, check out this album. Pat Flynn on vocals, pretty sick.

Also, this one is the lead singer from Steely Dan and basically you need it just because yeah.

I covered a Misfits song on my guitar as well, not sure how good it sounds.

I've been deep into black metal lately. Currently fascinated by Ulver's Nattens Madrigal.

Ulver are superb, one of the best to do it. I've been going back through my US Black Metal records recently, Weakling, Myrkskog, Leviathan, Lurker of Chalice, WITTR, Striborg etc, bleak stuff.

Sarpanitum - Blessed be my brothers.
This is about 9/10 for me. Never heard of them, but it ended up to be the first death metal album I've bought in years.
Not the most technical nor best produced ever, takes a while to really get into, but then, ah, bliss.

If anyone knows other stuff like this, please post.

And now for something completely different. This guy does acidcore they way it's supposed to be.
A continuous train of non-stop hard kicks combined with dark soundscapes and enough variation to not make it boring.
This stuff gets me into trance even when sober.

Blood Incantation are the best DM band I've heard recently, Starspawn is a tremendous album.

I remember a dude on here sharing a song his band made and I've had it in rotation for years. Only just now bothered to check the rest of their songs out. I love this album! It's a shame they don't seem to be making music anymore. Really solid listen.

If that dude still visits BG, you the man.

Quite a coincidence: I saw them by on a gig last sunday and never heard them before.. I wasn't overly impressed, but had a feeling it might have been due to the sound not being all that and the show was fairly short so I put them on my 'to check' list anyway.
