After the raging success of the Demolition alu 9t driver the world turned to darkness and chromo drivers ruled the world. But fear not! Colony thankfully decided to bring back the golden days and released this

LOL.
-
but do they come in oilslick?
-
PAHAHAHA! weight saving with a driver? is there any point!?
-
Aluminium is such a stupid material to use for a BMX driver. Even Ti is pushing it for anything lower than a 10 or 11t one. It will be light, granted, but is weight even an issue in BMX right now?
-
its stuff like this that make colony such an innovative and progressive company at the forefront of bmx parts development. cant wait to see this driver paired with a super tight chain so the gyro whip jockeys can keep their cranks nice and flat to catch
-
pushing the envelope
...raising the bar
...a step beyond
in a word...progression...
-
srsly though, I fuckin' hate aluminium.

It's not about the size, it's about how abrasion resistant the material is, and it's hardness compared to steel chains
-
The solution? Aluminium chains!
-
Don't tempt fate hugh :>
-
Don't know if it was a typo but dan's had the alu one as $1 cheaper than the steel. So it's not just weight savings it's also easier on the wallet lol
-
Gross. This reminds me of the 2006ish era when companies hadn't quite figured out the really good heat treating techniques people tried to save weight with $80 titanium stem bolts and holes drilled in frames. What I think is dumb is that folding tires (which I thought were a good effective way to save a lot of weight) are basically extinct now because people thought they're were too expensive, but here we are re-introducing a dumb, fragile part that will save like 2 ounces.
-
Folding tires dead? Noo, I have been running them since they came out and I think most of my buds are too
-
I am too on khe folding tire. For me the tiny street tires last plenty and I like how my bike feels compared to others with monster tires and half the extra weight.
Ti stem bolts are also cool.not just to sabe weight but shine like tailwhips.
I can agree with drilled frames.
-
I realised that I am currently not on folding tires. I had to change mine and decided to try the KHE puncture proof tires. Basically the same as the street folding but with extra wall thickness and not folding. They are great but a tad heavier. Want to try the webb or Lacey tires though
-
back to the alu drivers, theyre already in the shops. i dont understand, colony mustnt test anything. its a shame cos clint seems super nice and a cool guy going off insta and what ive heard, yet colony blows so hard, and always consistantly manages to churn out pure shite

it comes with a replacement ratchet ring. what the fuck are you meant to do with that? how do you get the old one out?

you don't have to. the shattered alu driver in your hub will act as a grinder to disintegrate the ratchet ring. open hub up, shake all the bits out, install new ring and get new driver (which is $1 cheaper than the primitive, non-fashionable, heavy steel driver too)
-
Thread it in flipped for LHD and a great relationship with your dentist
-
But guys, Chris Courtenay has been testing it for, like, 6 months, so you know it's sound!
(I'm not sure who he is either)
-
guess it would be alright for parks and shti where you're just flowing around.
-
Seriously, how the fuck are you supposed to replace the ratchet ring? Does anyone know what that piece looks like on a Colony hub?
-
Are joytech hubs really that advanced? That our imagination cannot simply place them in the hubshell?
Love your bike BTW.

?
Unthread it? I'm not saying it's going to be easy...
Imagine one of these aluminum drivers being shark-toothed over time by a half-link chain.
-
every time you pedal and the hub engages, the ratchet ring is getting threaded tighter and tighter into the shell. those things are not designed to come out. also id be really hard to get a good purchase on it to turn it the opposite way and unscrew it because of the slanted ramped bits for the pawls to ride over.
finally that replacement ratchet ring looks like it is also aluminium, which will get torn to shreds by those steel pawls.
all in all colonys r&d department must be the dumbest of any bmx company, unless im missing something here
-
I can imagine that switching your pawls over and changing the sprocket to LHD (if you were on RHD) and doing some racing or hard brakeless tiretaps would eventually make the ring come off.
I still cannot in any sence, besides Commercial, see how using a alu driver would be a good idea.
-
maybe the colony hub is kinda like the eclat one where the ratchet ring comes out when you switch the driver? I have not got a clue and couldnt care less really

Im pretty sure I saw a tool from Colony for removing the ratchet ring. (http://www.colonybmx.com.au/catalogue/images/uploads/CloneCassetteHubTool.jpg)
That one is for the Clone though.
