Title: Antigram driver wobble
Post by: Patty on November 16, 2014, 10:47:05 AM
Well it's cold as shit here, so I decided to give my bike alittle tlc. I noticed the driver on my antigram wobbles from side to side. Is this normal?

When it is bolted on the bike? No...

I vaguely remember that it was supposed to have the tiniest of wobble to function properly. Not sure though.

Do you own an antigram or are you just assuming?

might it be the c-clip problem that the ratchets had?

G didn't solve it but he switched the c-clip to the outside so you can pop it right back in.

even though i don't own nor ever owned a ratchet or a antigram (yet)

If it is, a nice tip is if you look closely at the c-clip, it's pressed out of plate material, so it has a 'smooth/rounded' side, and a flat/edged side. You want the edged/flat part to point away from the bearings, so it can't slip out because of the rounded edges.

I just checked, the circlip seems to be fine.

I own one. I just checked mine and it turns out it does wobble a bit when installed. My circlip also fell out. Doesn't appear to have affected it though, as I've been riding it like this all year.   I guess I just never noticed it was kind of.loose like that.

The driver should have about 0.2 to 1mm (max) of play along the axle. this is normal.

The Antigram driver has a circlip on the inside/back but this is just to retain the pawls and has no impact on the driver bearing location.

Instead there is a spiral retaining ring on the outside end of the driver. This locates the driver and keeps the driver and the collar together as a single assembly. IF it comes out, then the hub will still function, but it is better to have it in there. There should be a plastic washer between the spiral ring and the shoulder of the collar inside the driver. ie. when you install the collar into the driver it should go:-

Driver body>plastic washer>needle bearing>plastic washer>collar>plastic washer>spiral ring. Grease Grease Grease also.

I hope this helps.
