Title: RIP Brian Itzaina
Post by: Aesop Rock on December 16, 2013, 06:42:42 PM
Brian passed away this morning. Details are sketchy so I'm not going to speculate. I'm in shock, just saw him on Saturday. Awesome and wild dude. I know he was well liked on here, so I figured I'd spread the word. RIP Brian.

Not going to make a second post but to at least expand upon what was written knowing the circumstances of what's happened to Brian. It's a terrible loss of someone who for all intents and purposes seemed to be alright on the outside. The BMX community and the Bikeguide community are very close knit and it's always hard to hear something like this happen. I've talked with Brian regarding the industry and bike stuff in general and he always had nothing but great vibes. My condolences to his family and to those he left behind. RIP.

Post by: Bink on December 16, 2013, 09:00:07 PM
I hope this is a hoax, but I will eulogize anyway:

I may have argued Brian a time or two about some minuscule bike parts-related bullshit some years back, but I am proud to have exchanged snobby, snarky remarks with a guy who cared enough about bikes to get angry. He loved bikes of all kinds, his posts and treads helped keep this place alive, and, aside from his boot fetish, he seemed like a kind and decent person. I, random guy on an internet forum, will miss you. Farewell, Brian.

I wish your family well.

He was such a good person, always down for a laugh and up for just about anything. He really seemed to mature into an even more awesome guy over the few short years I knew him. I didn't get to see him as often as I'd have liked to, but I always considered him to be a good friend and was looking forward to him being at my wedding next year. His death is a crushing blow to everyone that knew him, however vaguely.

As someone else noted, I'm glad to see that at least it always seemed like he had a lot of fun in his life.

This is tragic news. I am just speechless. Seems like he's been living life to the fullest this past year or so(I'm sure the whole time). My thoughts are with his family. I hope if there was foul play involved his family gets to the bottom of it. Bummed I never got to pedal with him consider he was fairly close to me....

Absolutely can't believe it.  Seems like just yesterday we were at Pizza Port shooting the breeze and planning to do all sorts of awesome stuff this winter.

Didn't get to hang out with Brian as much as I wanted for living so closely to each other, but from the moment we randomly met in person at a local Taco Bell (recognized me by my Empire BMX shirt) I considered him a good friend and one of the nicest guys I've ever met.  We were planning on doing a double dinner date with our ladies a few weeks back.. Unfortunately work got in the way and my schedule changed.  Never got a chance to reschedule.  Crazy how life can change in an instant.

Really sorry to hear this.  Prayers for both him and his family.  I know it's still early - have any services been arranged?

RIP Brian.

What up everyone. Just wana shed some light on the subject.

Brian and I were extremely close friends as well as co-workers at Haro. I’ve know Brian for about 10 years through riding bikes. And what happened yesterday was a shot out of left fucking field. When I arrived at work yesterday and realized Brian wasn’t there, I gave our other co-worker a call; his partner down in the warranty department (who had the day off) to see if he knows where Brian was. Brian usually shows up early to work so this was kinda weird since he didn’t let anyone know he was gona be late. Long story short, calls were made and eventually later in the afternoon Brian was found. Brian decided to take his own life yesterday which is still a complete shock to everyone who knew Brian on a personal level. Like I said I’ve known Brian and his brother Josh for about 10 years as well as working closely with Brian at Haro for the last 2 years. I’m seriously still in disbelief that this happened.

Me and a bunch of close friends as well as friends in the bicycle industry are going to be putting some sort of benefit jam on for Brian and his family. Details on this are very vague as of right now but something will happen.

Man, that's so sad. I was really hoping it wasn't a suicide. It's shocking.

I didn't know the dude personally, but he always seemed pretty level headed, positive and happy on here. I can't help but wonder what drove him to do it or put him in that dark state of mind... I wonder if he was under the influence of something or if he just had some underlying issues he never shared with anyone. I really don't mean any disrespect by it, that's just how my brain works I guess.

Yeah he seamed to be pretty motivated in life. A good job, always out doing something cool like shooting guns or riding motorcycles, had a beautiful girlfriend, built some cool SXCC bikes. He was even building a bike rack for his motorcycle and showing it off on here. Tragic.

Not even ashamed to admit I teared up a bit reading this. Never met the dude, but the way he presented himself on here and the way it all ended for him is giving me a really weird feeling. I think it's easy to forget that behind the Internet personas there's a real fucking person. I've never really experienced anything like this before. For what it's worth, this random dude a thousand miles away is offering his condolences. Fuck man. Just fuck.

Oh man....such a bummer that a young life is cut short. I've been mainly a lurker here since 2005 but I remember seeing Brian's posts here and there throughout his time on the board. It really brings to heart that each of us is unique and are in our own set of circumstances, but BMX somehow brought us all together here on this forum. I hope his friends and family can somehow find peace.

I liked his signature. It made me smile when I would see it.

I rarely come on here anymore and I've know of this since yesterday but I had to say rest in peace.

I was just texting him the other day about the workbenches that we built and some other stuff and this is really just a huge horrible surprise as he seemed to be just as happy as he has ever been since I had met him a bit over 3 years ago. We had many a good time together and he stayed at my old apartment a few times. Going to miss him without a  doubt.

This picture is old but has many BG members in it. Brian Humping me, Couch, Donald, Corey, CarlsbadMike, HoshPosh, Black Josh... Good times!

My friends Dad took his own life a few years ago, I remember seeing him at his daughters 21st maybe a week or less beforehand, happy as can be. For him it was bi-polar, I've no idea on Brians situation but things can turn fast when you don't feel good inside.

I've clicked this thread a number of times now and I still find it hard to read.

Couldn't believe the thread title when i saw it. Never had too much interaction with the dude on here except in the fixed gear thread(think i gave him shit for his boots at some point as well) but yeah, it definitely hit me in some way when i saw. never said it but always respected the fuck out of the dude for putting 110% into everything he was into whether it was building some of the sickest bikes i've ever seen, motorcycles, guns or even stupid boots. dude seemed to be having a fucking rad time all the time so that makes it even more of a shock i guess. RIP Brian and condolences to friends and family.

if anyone reading this is also in a dark state of mind please talk about it to a loved one, friend, someone you trust. if you'd rather talk to someone anonymous here's a couple easy to remember suicide hotlines: 1 800 SUICIDE, 1 800 273 TALK. there's also this link of hotlines by state/country: http://www.suicide.org/suicide-hotlines.html (http://www.suicide.org/suicide-hotlines.html).

it's never worth it, especially if you're young. so much time for things to change. not a day goes by that i don't regret the suicide attempts i made, and think about the effects it had on my family and friends. even if you think nobody cares, i guarantee there will still be someone who cares about you wondering why you didn't just come to them for help. and if you're thinking "i'll show them, teach them a lesson" you won't be teaching anyone a lesson.

pedal grind in peace brian, i'm not judging what you did since i've been there myself. i just wish you'd given it some time and let someone in on what you were going through.

Such a bummer. I had talked to him maybe a week before this happened and he was as happy as can be. We planned to grab pizza, go ride, go shoot... the usual when we would hang out so hearing this fucked me up pretty bad. I've lost a lot of older family members in recent years but I can't recall ever losing a friend, especially this young and this way. It hit me way different than losing family, can't really explain it. Brian was always happy when I saw him or talked to him, never seemed to let anything get to him. He put me in contact with a lot of people I do business with now and I will always appreciate that, but more importantly I appreciated him as a friend. Although we lived a hundred miles apart, and only saw eachother once every few months, he was a solid dude and I'm glad I got to spend time with him.

Brian was a really nice guy and a good dude all around, at least from what I could tell.

I had the pleasure of meeting him once or twice, briefly, and he was always stoked. He even bought a painting of mine for his girlfriend at one point, which I thought was sweet. Hope she is doing alright.

Hope his consciousness is still out there and people remember him well (which seems to be the case based on this thread).

I realise that I only barely interacted with him on a BMX forum but I really can't believe that he's gone. Enough of his life was visible on here, guns, bikes, gf and now it's just gone. He's just no longer here.

Just browsing through his posts…

 :-[
I remember when bikeguide.org was a meeting place.
Many users became friends to me whether we had/have met or not.
There was a time whenever someone posted after a vacation or power outage everyone mentioned missing their company.

I have met so many great people, connected with old friends and acquaintances, fuck fat chicks, drank watermellons of booze, shit, fucked and puked on whatever I could, drank till cuffed on the curb and rode the fuck out of many skateparks, and broke some fucking bones because of the great years of bike guide.

I make trips out to see my homies as often as I can even if its only for lunch and some beers.
Bottom line is bikeguide created a whole new level of family for me and I hope it can make a comeback and do the same for some of you newcomer who only know of this place as another place to post a fucking bikecheck to grab a boner off of.

This is on me forever yet green boxes are gone forever...(cmon sheep)

Whats up guys. This is Josh, Brian's brother. I originally got him into Bikeguide back when I used to be super active on the forums. College and work got me away from coming home to Bikeguide a few years ago and since then I have only lurked here and there. I am sure many of you are seeking closure, just as I am in everything that has happened. You know the thing about Brian is he would go hard on everything. I started riding BMX when he was still a sponsored skater. About six months in, he got a bike. Next thing you knew, two weeks later he had surpassed me and was doing tech shit while I was still on the fundamentals. then he got into a shop. the he ran the shop for pennies in the background, and made his way to work at Haro finally. He drank hard, he rode hard, he lived hard, and still always had time to have a smile on his face no matter what bone was broken or what shit had been going wrong in his life. The last few years he has made so many good choices in his life. His long time nickname of "Hesh" was starting to wear off a bit. He wore nice shirts, and got his motorcycle. Settled down with his girlfriend and became the provider of a small family, but still a family. He was mending deep wounds with my father. He was becoming a true responsible adult. The thing that tears me up, as many of you might remember, is that he got me through 3 1/2 years of Chemotherapy from aggressive Leukemia. He was always there for me while I was down and on the verge of death, holding on by a smile. During that time he was more than just my older brother, but my Best Friend. During all of my chemo he helped me build the raddest Randy Brown build from bikeguide sales in the trans red with twombolts, odyssey races, profile wheels, and my favorite a chrome challenger just to keep me looking forward in life and to get stoked on living again. Brian had been on some medications. I was not aware of them, but they were revealed to me by our mom recently. They were making him physically sick, but helping him with life mentally. He was really trying to balance out the dosage and figure out the right medication. Not saying he had any disorders or depression, life can get to everyone. The main thing about these medications, as some of you might know, is that you cannot stop cold turkey. You can experience deep depression and suicidal thoughts very rapidly, which is not like my brother. Brian always knew best, even if it was not the right way. You couldn't convince him otherwise. So when it came to taking advice from a doctor on quitting medications, he was not really avidly listening. Not saying that this is the reasoning for the events that happened, but it only takes one line to connect two dots. He has touched so many lives, seamlessly without effort, by just being himself. He will be missed, remembered, forgotten by some, but shit that's life. After the last few weeks, with everything that has played out, the best way to describe myself is numb. Not because I want to be, but because I just am. My emotions only have gotten the best of me once, driving his motorcycle home from the side of the road that day where he took his life, trying to fathom what was going through his mind on his drive out there. We are having a traditional service on the Friday Jan. 17th at 1pm in Escondido at Emanuel Faith Community Church that all friends are welcome to. Since I work at the Escondido skatepark, we are also organizing a Ride For Brian BMX Jam that following Sunday for the 19th. Details are still shady, and I am getting it all sorted out on Tuesday when I come into work. I'll will let everyone know what is up when I find out. With all this being said, thanks for the condolences from everyone, and I hope you can seek some sort of closure from this. Ride on Bro!

Such an eye opener. I guess I'll start listening to the doctor about stopping cold turkey on medicine. Amazing how just stopping them can take you to a very dark place when you feel A-OK. There has been several times I have gone cold turkey and felt like shit again. I am sorry about Brian and wish he could have talked to us more. We lost a good man way to early.

I haven't said anything about this at all, but I haven't stopped thinking about him since I first read what happened. I, like so many others, only communicated with him here on this forum, but came away from those interactions feeling like he was such a great person. My heart breaks for everyone who was close to him.

Glad to see you on here again HOSHPOSH, and I am glad you are staying strong!

Damn.  RIP Brian.  First time on bg for a while, and just saw this thread.

I actually met Brian a couple of times a few years ago when I used to ride: once at a cult bbq/jam in La Habara, CA, and another time or two when I happened to run into him at the skatepark a couple times.  He was super chill when I awkwardly came up to him and told him I recognized him from bikeguide haha.

Also,  HoshPosh, I'm sorry about your loss dude.  You sound way stronger with handling everything then I would ever be.  I remember I would always get so stoked when you guys would post pictures of your bikes next to your minitrucks.

I don't post a whole lot, but I have been around long enough to come to appreciate Brian's contributions to this forum.  It actually made me really sad when I read the title of this thread, even though I don't even know Brian

Yesterday was Brian's jam at the Escondido skatepark! Had a fucking blast, if you didn't make it you missed ouutttttss! Everyone was in great spirit and the weather was absolutely awesome!
Everyone was able to write something for Brian on some Red/White/Blue balloons and everyone let them go for Brian at the same time. An awesome site to see!

I made it to his service on Friday at the church. Really nice with his brother and sister reading what people wrote about him. Bikeguide was actually mentioned! Didn't stay for the after get together and couldn't make it on Sunday but it looks like everyone had a good time. Brian would approve!

I'm pretty shocked by this. Never knew Brian personally but I've been on and off this forum for nearly ten years and he's always been there to make me laugh and inform me on boots, bikes, and life in general.

RIP Brian, my prayers and thoughts are with your loved ones.

This past week I've seen two people who had an uncanny resemblance to Brian…I had to double take both times and still don't really believe what I saw.
It's really strange.

We're still thinking about you, Brian.

Just logged on after a while and saw this.

I don't know if I ever even talked to him, but always enjoyed reading his posts. He seemed like a solid, smart guy. Very sad news indeed.

Rest in peace, and my condolences to everyone involved.
