Title: Rep Power
Post by: super_chief on October 30, 2008, 10:44:18 PM
It appears most rep power has been reduced by half for normal users since the update.

Admins at the moment are set(?) at 150.

Oops! (help swap)

I increased admin rep power (which is locked at a fixed rate) and dropped everyone else.

So how are things working now?

Is there a cap off of power? If so for everyone/mods/admin?

I would also like to know this, how do we get rep now?  Post count, points from others, or is there something new in the mix?

Rep power is calculated the same as before just with different variables.
What those are, I will not say, other than post count has very little influence.

There is no limit to rep power, which is why I dialed it back a bit. A few people figured out how to manipulate the system to get more.

Did we ever figure out why my rep went from 2xxx to -2xxx randomly and then after it was re-built up it was set at -xxx? I'll assume it was an admin, but I've still never heard an explanation.

A better question, does anyone care?

Pwn't.

Actually Sheep, I do care. If one of the Admins has a personal problem with someone that's one thing but isn't that abuse of power? Also, rather than resolving the issue and bringing it up to me personally it's changing nothing. I'd expect you to understand that a bit more clearly, but obviously you have some sort of pent up resentment toward me so I guess we'll never know.

Also, everyone who gave me positive rep when they saw that I had full red boxes obviously cared enough to do something about it. So to answer your question, yes sheep, people do care, even if you don't.

Hmm, I wonder who it could be...

I just don't understand why they would negate all my rep rather than just shoot me a quick message telling me to stop doing something or explain to me that I did something stupid.

That is my easy way of dealing with people who abuse their rep power.
I am not going to send a PM when I can click a button and be done. I think a few other admins do this too, and the mods can do it now as well.

Resentment towards you?
I don't think I have really interacted much with you. I have no issues with you, in fact there are very few people here I have problems with. I'm sorry if I gave you that impression.

The truth is, I care very, very little about rep, and when people bitch about it, I have no sympathy.

My lack of rep power is impressive, wouldn't you agree?

No one said James did it, and James never had the power to mess with rep.

Yeah my bad I didn't mean rep.  I meant that he gave many people a lot of red boxes (including me) just because he could, even when I wasn't posting in the hate forum.  He is the only person on this site I've every really REALLY disliked. Blah blah blah - useless post.
