Some people seem to be able to view them and some can't.
Someone mentioned I have to turn some HTML thing on to see it in the User CP but I can't find it.
Am I mental?

You can only see that option in your user cp when you got html turned on.

my page says HTML is on in that box at the bottom left. i still can't see embedded videos either...

If it's Firefox, it may be a browser (actually Flash) issue.

Nevermind, google chrome can do it, but I keep getting error messages even though theres no problem

Ive got IE and it doesnt work for me but it says html code is on
