I decided to treat myself to some nice new pedals and since the dugans won't be out until the winter I'm going to get something else.
I want something with a good sized platform, decent concave and thin body. I've narrowed it down to 3 options so tell me if you have experience with any of them.
Premium https://www.danscomp.com/products-PARTS/465046/Premium_Slim_Pedals.html
Demolition https://www.danscomp.com/products-PARTS/465272/Demolition_Trooper_Pedals.html
Eclat https://www.danscomp.com/products-PARTS/465076/Eclat_Surge_Alloy_Pedals.html

Welgo MG-1's.
$40.00 bucks on Ebay. Pretty damn wide, dual concave. Light weight
No idea about the pedals you listed, they're too expensive, IMO.
-
I've had the MG 1s before. Pretty good actually although the bearings died a little too soon. Check all the boxes except for thin body.
I agree that all those options are too expensive but I have a $100 gift card so price is no issue.
-
I've had premiums for a while. They're not concave. Despite that they're quite nice. No wrench flats.
What about Rubens?
-
Those demolition pedals look pretty nice. The Eclat's too.
get one of each. :D
-
no wrench flat is shit, id go eclat of those 3

Why do metal pedals not have knurlings anymore?
-
Knurling on cnc pedals? Not so much, forged probably would be better way of doing so.
-
Why do metal pedals not have knurlings anymore?
People realised that the pins were doing the gripping
-
Knurling holds dirt.
-
I have the Fatality Pedals, which are pretty much exactly the same as the premiums. They have held up really good still pretty much perfect after 2 years, and easy to find titanium spindles/pins if you are into that kinda stuff. Also I would recommend the fatalities over the premiums since they are cheaper by a fair way if I remember correctly.
-
As mentioned, Premium pedals feel very flat. I'm currently running Ruben pedals which I love because of the concave but I too would like something a bit more slim. Hopefully the Dugan pedals fit the bill.
If you're into plastics at all then the Colony pedals feel slim, have a nice wide body and good concave to them.
-
The Premium pedals bend really easily because of the tiny spindle. Shame because they feel nice. The Eclat ones are crap, don't bother.
-
+1 to the eclats being crap, mine fell apart pretty quick
-
Really like how the Premium shape feels; big wide body, super thin, enough concave, light as hell. No bent spindles from riding em since last fall, but I'm a peg grinder.
For the sake of clarity, I picked up a set of the plastics on the cheap. They feel great, but $100 for a pair of metal pedals (BMX pedals are a relatively high wear part) is still extremely expensive. If you're going to pedal grind, definitely avoid them.
The lack of wrench flats is a bit of a hassle, but not a big deal. Makes it slightly harder using an 8mm Allen wrench, but installing them wasn't a deal breaker. I used the age old G-Sport advice and shouted, "STRENGTH OF A BEAR!" as I turned the 8mm and they went right on.

I've been riding Odyssey Twisteds for the last two years and don't see myself going back to expensive metal pedals any time soon. There just isn't any performance advantage.
-
yeah i dont reckon top of the line sealed pedals are worth it (unless theyre jim cs)

Plastic would be fine for me but I only ride dirt...

LOT'S of flat pedal options. I have the DMR Vault's. HUGE, pretty thin, great grip. expensive.
-
Canfield Brothers Crampons feel great.
-
try to find some DK Alphas

What
Wow
That says something if they can last that long
But then again how many pedal bodies have you been thru??
-
try to find some DK Alphas
Great pedals. I've had mine for a couple years now and love them. I grind on them too.
-
Ruben pedals the alloy ones those are the best.
-
Maybe I have been mountain biking for too long, but VP AIM pedals look nice.
-
Everyone I've met riding premiumum pc's have bent spindles
-
1 pair of JCPC lasted longer (in fact im on my 2nd just because I wanted black pedals)
vs 50 pairs of loose ball (Odsy Twised and others as Animals...). That was a huge waste of money.
-
But then again how many pedal bodies have you been thru??
I've been running JC/PCs exclusively for a year and a half. I do a lot of pedal grinds (lucees, feebs, butchers, cranks, etc) pretty sloppy and end up replacing the bodies every four to six months. Sometimes sooner, but usually not. I usually keep the spares for just the grind side as I've kept the original tops on both pedals. I'll usually switch out the bottoms pretty early compared to most other people, but I like not grinding through allen heads.
Speaking of which, I put pins on the outside of my grind side of those pedals so that the metal slows down the rate of wear on the plastic. Got the idea on here. It helps keep me from going through the heads of pins that I actually do care about for taking sides apart.
In terms of plastic peg replacement schedule, I'll usually go through two sleeves on my back pleg before I start telling myself my pedals are looking worthy of a switch. Then I put it off for a month or something because mehhh.

#FVLT new cult Dak's sig pedals. They're thiner, wider, and have bigger spindle.
Dugan pedals are cleaner looking. Although both are shown at interbike, but cult pedals are already available at some shops.
