Title: Sprag Clutch?
Post by: LukeTom on November 26, 2015, 03:12:28 PM

Any armchair engineers want to wade in on sprag clutches in hubs?

For one I can say when riding a coaster, it is more difficult to judge speed.

Didn't Alienation make a sprag hub? Probably was shit.

I want a set for my CX bike though

I understand G, but how about this set up for trails-only where going backwards is not a problem? Any benefits over the traditional mechanism?

Like I said in the article, I liked it for being silent, but then again it's helpful to be able to judge your speed. Mine definitely felt like it had less drag too, but that's going to depend on a lot of other factors too and on what that hub is like and what hub you are comparing it to...

True Precision Stealth Pro race hubs use essentially the same mechanism and their hubs can be seen on any of the top pros bikes.
I have built up more than a few sets and have had nothing but compliments on their reliability.

LukeTom said armchair engineers, your opinion isn't valid G.

Better to be a sofa engineer than an armchair engineer. 2 people can fit on a sofa while with an armchair you're flying solo.
