My Fly tractor chain just destroyed my $8 chain tool so I'm in the market for a new one. I have a Park Tool one and I like but it only works with narrow multi speed chains. I assume they make a wide chain version but Park stuff is on the expensive side so I figured I'd ask here for suggestions on less pricey but still ok options.

Depends how often you will use it. The park one is the nicest I've used but awkward to carry. If you're going to use it like twice a year just get a small one thats cheap that will go in your tool bag for emergencies (plus some spare links). The cheap ones are hit and miss I've found but buy it nice or buy it twice I suppose.

Doesn't the shadow work only with their halflink chain?

The new Odyssey one made for the Keychain is really nice, and it's only like $16. Works awesome with my 510 and has plenty of space left for larger chains, plus has an adjustable plate stop for whatever links you put in it.

Saltplus chain breakers are a good. Low price doesn't hurt.

Cult is really good but will need to be drilled out for the keychain

definitely works on 510s, 410s, keychains, department store chains, etc
I've had mine a few years and haven't damaged the pin or any threads yet.

Friend has a Shadow breaker, nice investment if you fux with chainz a lot.
-
maybe an exception to the rule, but my shadow chain tool sheared in half on the threads pushing a pin out on a 510 chain, there was no wierd force just a sudden jerk, and it was in 2 pieces.

I've always used Shadow breakers and they've worked well for me. They've worked fine on all my 510's and 710sl's.

I cannot recommend the park ct3.2 enough.
Breaks any chain
Has a replaceable pin
I have been using mine for the past year in shop use. breaks 6-10 chains a day...

Another vote for the Shadow chain breaker. Ive had mine for years and it's still going strong.
