The Lounge / Re: Things to look forward to this year
« on: March 17, 2015, 07:08:40 PM »
I'm looking forward to see what happens in June. I am in the running for a summer internship at some company in California, but as I've done all the cover letter writing and portfolio work, I might apply at some places in Europe too. If that all fails I will just kill off the rest of the summer in Germany and around.

I thought something like the reverse concave of a regular pedal, with some left to right concave to lock it in when getting crooked. Just thick  as anything. Another nice thought would be pedal pins with a keyed tip, for removal.

We are actually going to yamba, the wife has a gig there so I'll be hitting that park up for sure cheers for the heads up

The mexican place Sol Cantina is wicked, dude's from San Diego I think, fish tacos a sure fire thing, and the ceviche is the best I eva had. I actually reviewed in to Trip Advisor. http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g529051-d3243589-r141798217-Sol_Cantina-Yamba_New_South_Wales.html

Also, just a heads up, the hostel there once served some amazing chicken wings, no sauce or anything, just lightly floured and seasoned. They changed me.

The wife and I are part way through our tour of the south east coast of australia. She's doing a few gigs and I get to ride with Internet mates and we are seeing parts of the country we haven't seen so we are excited about that

Also age of ultron. Keen as fuck for that

If you have a chance, my favorite little gem spots are Yamba (cool new skatepark, surfs) and Bellingen, cruisy small town, hostel is unique. Both between Sydney and Brisbane. Also in Brisbane the Hideaway is a great little lounge to catch some live.

I think the plan is to do some kind of stampy testing, both for straight tensile and impact. The problem is (as always) that the industry standard tests aren't a great reflection of real world riding. eg. nobody ever puts a new chain on, then pedals hard enough to apply over a ton of straight tensile load to the chain. But it is hard to come up with a good repeatable test so maybe we will revert to this.

Why don't you just see how much it takes to pry 2 links apart - after all a chain is only as strong as its weakest link!

I think even a centre to centre strut would be as good, maybe better. top centre to bottom left would seem to rely more on the fasteners than the strength of the wood?

The Bike Shop / Re: Pedal design devolving?

Evolution in sick plastics probably contributed to the perceived devolution of pedals.

I don't think plastics deform or anything, but the weight difference in the bodies means the initial impact could be more gentle, and the second half that comes whipping around to finish you carries less energy too.

I once dreamed of a JCPC half that was made to grind, no pins, thicker, PLEG compound or something, maybe some surface sliding contours. PLEDAL BODY or something. Ever been on the table G?

Oddly, sync settings were all good. Ended up deleting all my music and other media from my phone, signing out and back in of iCloud on my phone and then syncing everything all over again and it seems to have done the trick.

I don't listen to many podcasts, just been on a streak of books since last August. All 5 of ASOIAF books, a couple of the Harry Potter series. Now onto Ready Player One and The Martian.

Happened to me once I just flickered the bathroom light 5 times, turned the faucet on and off 5 times, and said 'Steve Jobs', slept with my iphone under my mattress and it was fine. FYI incase it happens again.

My mom was on some about that http://www.audible.com maybe you can get a free trial or coupon code somewhere?

Also you should try to get 'The Reader - Bernhard Schlink' on audio cassette. For irony.

What up guys. Thanks again for all yall's input on this. I learned a real lesson on this one, and I hope I never need any help from anybody ever again. Thought I'd let you know how it all ended.

After I left Canada for Basel in January, another student, instructor, and technician took over the project. Some comporimises were made in order to meet the deadline, and in the end it's more or less true to the original intent. I'm actually pretty glad the base ended up being made of wood. Seems like anything else would have been a bit of a waste.
The trophy was given away and they hoisted it up gladly, and it was a great bit of press for our school and the Product Design program.

Cheers.

Made this rack out of broken frames I had laying around the shop. Nothing compared to what some of you guys posted on here.

But it's something! 10/10 would load.
