Title: Things to look forward to this year
Post by: Prodigal Son on March 01, 2015, 12:07:11 AM
Besides our own personal bits, what are some things happening this year that stand out?

Unfortunately, what I come up with is MadMax Fury Road. I loved madmax as a kid. Bust a deal, face the wheel. You puppy! Plus, Charlize Theron.

Volume's The Finer Things is on my list too. Definitely need to pick up a copy.
What else is sure to be cool these next 10 months?

The wife and I are part way through our tour of the south east coast of australia. She's doing a few gigs and I get to ride with Internet mates and we are seeing parts of the country we haven't seen so we are excited about that

Also age of ultron. Keen as fuck for that

The new Terminator movie. I loved T2 so much that I still havent stopped getting excited over new releases regardless how crappy the last ones were.

Actually, T3 was ok, not great, but ok

If you have a chance, my favorite little gem spots are Yamba (cool new skatepark, surfs) and Bellingen, cruisy small town, hostel is unique. Both between Sydney and Brisbane. Also in Brisbane the Hideaway is a great little lounge to catch some live.

Test riding and dialing in the new thing we've been building at our dirt jumps in the winter, can't f*cking wait! (bit personal, I know, but I am kind of going of the hopeful assumption I'm not the only one on here who spend most of the winter in the woods with his best friends mr. shovel and ms. wheelbarrow)

There's definitely a few releases that I'm stoked for this year, but it's mostly local shit (I'll post it up in that other thread when it happens).  Can't think of any big ones either.

I liked it but it's definitely not as introspective as the Batmans or anything.

I'm definitely looking forward to the new Modest Mouse album. Even though I'm not really feeling a few of the singles they put out.

Seeing the Foo Fighters at Citi Field in July. I heard they put on a good show, so I'm stoked.
Other than that, looking forward to dialing in the trails this season. Hopefully I can make another trip up to Cranx as well.

I want a new installment in the red dead series. Definitely my favorite video game ever was red dead redemption. Since it's been deemed accepted to pronounce things no one else can experience, I just submitted all my tax info and income statements in hopes of being a home owner by this summer. My wife and I want to expand our family and get another little one but can't do that with the space of our place now.

The mexican place Sol Cantina is wicked, dude's from San Diego I think, fish tacos a sure fire thing, and the ceviche is the best I eva had. I actually reviewed in to Trip Advisor. http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g529051-d3243589-r141798217-Sol_Cantina-Yamba_New_South_Wales.html (http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g529051-d3243589-r141798217-Sol_Cantina-Yamba_New_South_Wales.html)

Also, just a heads up, the hostel there once served some amazing chicken wings, no sauce or anything, just lightly floured and seasoned. They changed me.

What business?

A storage facility that sends 2 movers to pick up your things. Then when you request your items back 2 movers bring your items back. You make a profile on our website to request the dates for pick up and re-delivery. When your items are picked up the guys there take an inventory of everything they collected which will appear on your profile on our website. So say the holidays are coming and you want your lights and such you request just that box and within 48 hours it will be returned to you. Convenience is what I'm selling basically.

Hitting up Boston with a bud in June for some vacation time. Catching a Sox game on the 3rd, sightseeing, and whatever else we end up getting into. Stoked. If anybody is around, you're more than welcome to buy me a beer.

I was nominated for a local music award, so I'm looking forward to the voting and the announcement. It's a public vote, so I'll be hitting all you fuckers up when the time comes!

Other than that stuff, nothing immediate jumps out at me. 2014 was hands-down the worst year of my life, so I'm looking forward to a better 2015. I plan on saving a ton of money, working my ass off at work in hopes of gaining a permanent position, and I'm looking forward to hopefully riding a bit more this summer.

Oh, and I'm looking forward to winter coming to an end. Fuck.

Congrats man!  Starting your own business is no joke and I have a lot of respect for anyone who can pull it off.  One day I'll do it...  one day.

I'm getting my ass handed to me right now, but I'm actually really looking forward to being the Account Manager/Project Manager in charge of the network build for some of Americas largest music festivals this year.

I'm working on the Coachella contract right now, and it's one account that I've been wanting for a long time.  There's probably a 50% chance I'll be able to get TomorrowWorld too, which would be super awesome since it's right next to my home town.  I really want the bragging rights on that one, and I think there's a good chance I can get it.

Come here for winter. I'll talk in Fahrenheit so as not to mince words.

We set a record for February weather. An all time record. Average temperature of 9.32F (-12.6C). Coldest day without the windchill factor was -5.8F (-21C). (We did not have a single day last month that was above the freezing mark)

With winchill, we had a day of -41.8F (-41C), and during that week, we had spats of -25F to -31F. There were a handfull of homeless people who actually froze to death outside. It was pretty bad, and the amount of watermain breaks the city had was off the charts. One guy had his SUV frozen in a solid block of ice for a week before the city crews could get out to help him de-ice it.

Please, come take all the winter you can carry.

This has nothing to do with the quote I quoted but are catching Bane and Backtrack in April? I'm thinking of buying tickets to one of the shows at Chain Reaction, but you live near Sacramento right? I just moved to to the Antelope Valley like 6 months ago and I've finally been going to some shows. I saw Gaslight Anthem and Against Me back in September and just saw Bayside and Senses Fail this weekend in West Hollywood.

Well, it's their last record but I haven't seen anything official saying it's their last tour. I like Backtrack, they're a bit cliche but I like the guy's voice. Not too bad, I'm mostly wanting to see them because Bane is there haha. And it's Chain Reaction so it's almost like a mythical venue to me. Gotta go basically.

I'm looking forward to see what happens in June. I am in the running for a summer internship at some company in California, but as I've done all the cover letter writing and portfolio work, I might apply at some places in Europe too. Besides our own personal bits, what are some things happening this year that stand out?

Well since we're all doing personal bits now...

Booked a trip down to Florida for spring break next week. Spending a few days in Daytona Beach and a couple days in Miami Beach. Going to be awesome!

Just attended another TBS concert and bought VIP tickets so I got to meet the badn and view a private acoustic performance which was fucking dope. Hopefully they swing through Minneapolis later in the year like they did last year and I can see them again.

I'll be done with my apprenticeship at the current radio station towards the end of the year so hopefully I can land a full time job right away in radio once I'm done with that. Looking forward to what that will bring.

I can't wait for SoWo coming up soon! Going to be cool meeting up with Dick and his gang again for a few days in Georgia.

Stoked to get back into riding as soon as possible and digging new jumps at the trails and hopefully getting better.

Pumped for the Millville, Minnesota Spring Creek Pro Motocross national this summer. Love seeing those guys rip around the track and partying in the pits all weekend.

And finally just looking forward to warm weather. Winter can suck a dick.

SO pissed about winter. Many of the resorts in Tahoe have shut down because of lack of snow. Seems absolutely crazy as we're usually getting days of rain these months. The river out of Lake Tahoe dried up. I'm legitimately worried as my orchid greenhouses are run off a well. Last summer there wasn't much or a rate from the well either. Normally it should be like a 25gpm and it was like 25% of that.

I hope you had a good fucking time. Best night this year maybe. Lots of stage dives, two step game was insane, and the community in that room.

If we're doing personal bits now, just booked a long weekend in Prague with a few mates in July. Should be a good one, apparently it's something ridiculous like 80p a pint! Our hotel has a live music venue as its bar area as well, can't wait!

I went to the Saturday show, so awesome. Kid Armor was one of the opening bands and they were almost better than Backtrack. Bane didn't do an encore but they played most every song I wanted to hear. I hope they do one more tour because I gotta see them again. Even met Aaron out in the parking lot afterwards, super cool.

Thanks, we're informally planning the parenting and taking advice but we also know that most of that goes out the window and we plan on doing what comes naturally. I think setting the structure of a new life will be difficult for a bit... New schedules, new routine, a new normal.

The inspector overseeing a project I'm currently working on just took a 10% pay cut, probably doesn't equal out to what you lost, but it's still a significant amount. It's funny to see so many projects getting shit canned, but for what I do, we get weekly email updates saying that more and more work has come in. Although government mandates, and being the only company in the world who does this stuff sure helps.

If it was Austin it might have been tolerable. We're in San Antonio which I fully recommend no one going to ever. I will say the job I have has been awesome but everything else here is the pits. Now with flooding and unbearably hot summer coming up, I'm really ready to go.
