First time back on in years.  Happy to say I still keep up with some BG'ers in real life.  Been here since February 2003, over 15 years.  Crazy to even think about.  Still riding bikes a few times a week and I'm actually better now at 35 than I was back then. I went to Trestle bike park yesterday and railed berms, did some drops, ramped some jawns, and can actually, kind of, if you squint, whip the rear end of my bike a little.  Still no kids.  Living the dream.

February 2005. Shit it's been a long time. Glad to see some familiar faces I wasted my online and real life with. Some of my closest friends came from this website. It's fucking crazy to even say that.

Yeah, it appears to have taken zero damage. I bought a set of hope hubs the day before this guy offered me free wheels. The Hope's felt awesome and then I spun the Hadley's. I had to switch to the Hadley's.

As luck would have it, some dude off a local trail conditions Facebook group just gave me a free set of Hadley wheels. His bike was wrecked 2 years ago from an accident, got hit by a car. The rear wheel was all fucked up, in 4 pieces, thin Crest rim with bladed spokes. The hub appears completely fine though.. No spokes were pulled through, not even gouged into the aluminum at all. Axle rotates freely and smooth. Trying to eyeball it by hand slowly spinning it, I can't see any deformation at all.

Question. Am I good? Do I need to measure if it's perfectly round first? I got rims on the way but haven't ordered spokes yet. I don't want to build it up if it's going to be off centered or somehow "off".

Fucking breeders.

There's videos of dads "standing guard" at the Target bathrooms, not allowing women to go in while their child is in there.  They're obviously standing there, filming the whole fucking thing themselves, confronting store employees who just want to get back to folding t-shirts.  Nothing like using your child to make some sort of political statement.

Back on the topic at hand.  I think I'm going to vote third party, maybe just chuck a vote the Green Party's way.  I agree with a lot of Libertarian party schtick on social stuff, but they're blind enough on other issues that I won't give them a vote.  I'd probably vote for Bernie if he got the nod, just because he's honest and has consistently been able to get bipartisan support for stuff.  I can't vote Hillary with a good conscience.  The only way I would is if Trump had a serious chance of winning my state, which he doesn't

in most cases its gonna cause issues when people get confused seeing a man who is forced to use the womens bathroom because he was born with female genetalia (or vice versa), and then end up further interrogating and harassing the poor person making them explain that they are trans gender and not in fact a sexual predator as idiots have led each other to believe. like trans people havent got enough shit to deal with already ffs.

I tried explaining this to some guy ranting about trans people and the bathroom, saying they need to use the one they were born to, stating he's going to be watching the bathrooms, making sure no dudes or trans people enter.  I said "You do realize that a trans woman (born with a vagina) will look like a guy.  Wouldn't it make more sense for them to use the bathroom they identify with so it won't cause confusion?  He basically came back with something about how the safety of his kids was more important, just diverted.  Drives me crazy how often people are citing their kids safety as an excuse to be transphobic.

reading back through some of condors rational for why trump is a good choice....i feel sorry for you americans who arent complete mongs. trumps gonna happen because your general populous are too stupid to understand the implications and youre all going to have to pay the price. that sucks, im sorry

Yeah, it's pretty shit.  Trump is really just operating on the fear that small town people have towards other races, sexualities, religions, etc.  He's just saying all the racist, xenophobic shit they've been saying to their buddies behind closed doors.  I grew up in a really small conservative town and the shit I see posted by people I knew, it's really mind blowing.  This place is nowhere near the border, probably 99% Christian and 95% white, and they go on and on about illegals, "muslums", trans people, and all of a sudden they give a shit about Andrew Jackson.  I can guarantee almost none of them have ever met a muslim, ever seen, much less interacted with, a trans person, and I know for a fact illegals are not taking anyone's jobs there.  What gets me most is that these are the people who would most greatly benefit from a more democratic socialist form of government.  Lower to middle class Republicans drive me crazy in that sense.  They're the ones who would be hurt the most trying to pay for college, pay for health care.  Republicans create trade agreements that fuck American workers, they try to bust up unions, they help the companies who robbed American workers of their retirements.  But some cheeto in a wig is spouting hate speech, that's their guy???  It boggles the mind.
What's worse is that we couldn't even get Bernie in there to battle him.  People fucking hate Hillary, I honestly have no idea how she's winning the Democratic nod.  I have a bunch of liberal and democrat friends and I haven't seen one single person who's pro-Hillary.  Now you've got a huge chunk of people who would be voting Sanders who will not vote for the lying, career politician that is Hillary.

Congrats to all y'all having kids!  I got married on the sly a couple weeks ago.  We found out my fiance's grandfather has stage 4 lung cancer, maybe 3-6 months to live.  So we booked it out to LA and did a quick backyard thing with just 5 or 6 family members.  We're still going to have an actual wedding spring 2017 but I'm officially hitched as of now.  We plan on having kids but probably in 3 years or so.  We want to try and get a bunch of traveling and fun things done before settling down.
We've also got a decent amount of credit card debt from moving twice in the last 2 years and having to pay for a surgery for one of our dogs.  We've decided to start using You Need A Budget this month and try to keep our spending habits in check.  I made a ton of money over the last six months and have very little in savings to show for it.  I got a bunch of awesome outdoors stuff and a full fly fishing setup though!

Check pinkbike.com. They mostly have higher end bikes but I've seen cheap stuff that's well taken care of. You could post you're looking for a cheap commuter in your area, might have luck. It's a lot more lively than here.

how hilly is your ride?  I rode a taj shortly and you could hop curbs all day and still get around town. You could also change the gearing if you wanted.  I think for an around town commuter and bar bike it would be great.  But if I was commuting a longer distance and there were hills, I'd just buy a decent geared mountain bike with a single front chain ring.  You could hop one up a curb, commute with it, and then you can ride trails and shit with it too.  Derailleur might seem complicated at first but it's really not, especially just a single front ring setup.  You can watch a youtube video and have it down in no time.

Coming from Canada, this thread is adorable.

Also in Canada , and I also drove though snow the last time a month ago. For what its worth I haven't washed my car in 2 years and it's not rusted away  ;D

That's crazy.  Maybe it's because my truck is white but by the time a snowsnorm finally melts here in Denver, my car is covered in black road grime and salt.  I can't imagine not washing that off for 2 solid years, haha.

I gotta side with Alaskun on this one. While burning natural gas might be better that says nothing to the earth-ruining extraction methods, carbon footprint from the supply lines, ruining pristine lands with pipelines, not to mention the massive fucking leak in California. People are evacuated, kids having health problems, unknown environmental damage. Just because it's clean and easy at your house doesn't mean it's a clean fuel. Compare that to someone who owns their land, cuts and seasons their own lumber, replants lumber (which actually adds something), and warms their own home for free.
It's like fucking rain barrels in Colorado. They're illegal. The bullshit reason: The water belongs to everyone and you can't steal your neighbors water. Real reason: We want you to buy the water from us instead of collecting it for free.

The rain thing is ridiculous, the wood stove thing is not so ridiculous. I see your point re; fossil fuel extraction but if we all reverted back to wood stoves instead of LNG we would be in a much worse position. Ideally, we should ramp up small-scale renewable installations and use an electric stove to have clean air and negate fossil fuels.

But no one is saying everyone has to revert back to wood stoves.  Just that the people who want to use them and not rely on someone else for their heating should be able to do so. I agree with everything you're saying otherwise.  The only other thing I'll add is that electricity goes out, especially in rural areas with bad weather (aka Alaska) and then you're running a gas generator to power that electric heater.  Power goes out with a wood stove you're still in business.
