Eclat has a 1" stem and bar combo. That's bananas.
There is also a new frame company, eytol.
http://instagram.com/eytol
Talk amongst ya selves.
-
1" where, the clamping area, grips...?
'Catalogue designers' are already producing pissweak big bars (not knowing how to engineer them), maybe this is their attempt at making big bars that aren't likely to impale the user
-
1" bar at the stem area, like older mountain bikes. No point to me. I wonder if they will do it next season or bin it?
Eytol. Is that Kings Ride Shop's house brand?
-
It could be kings house brand. I rode the school bus with the dude who owns it. Could be!
The clamp of the stem and the whole bar are 25.2. Why? It should a grip, bar, stem combo?
-
Then they'd have to make a lever to fit for the few of us still using brake(s). I think it's dumb, but kids will buy it because of Churchill.
-
They taper up to normal size for the grips and lever.
-
kids will buy it because of Churchill.
Doubt it.
-
Odyssey podcast is on the comedump. BG gets a shoutout
-
that frame is so innovative! I mean look at the sticker!!!
-
Yeh, those bars taper to 7/8ths at the grip area so you can use a standard lever.
I was really bummed that they didn't stay 1 inch. My hands are getting old and a little big larger grip would be nice.
-
That is lame. If you're going to make a stem specifically for those bars...
-
The argument made that as bars have become larger/taller there is more leverage and therefore more chance of slipping. A 1" Ø clamp area has more surface area and would be less likely to slip. Obviously changing industry standards is a massive hurdle, it has been done before with steerer tubes. I guess time will tell.
-
I was really bummed that they didn't stay 1 inch.
Same. I dont have a problem with bars slipping, but I do have a sickness for the thickness.
-
Engineers correct me if I'm wrong, but to me the 1" clamp area seems like a great idea.I'm not terribly hard on my parts, but deformed clamp areas and slipping stems are something I still deal with. As bars get taller and more leverage is applied to the stem, going up to 1" just makes sense.
I had a pair of 1" Strip bars with the 1" grip tubes but the clamp area was the standard 7/8" which was odd. Diatech made some 1" brake levers--Tech 99 I believe, or you could run filed out Tech 77s.

Quoted cause there aint no girls here.
-
can we get a link/pic of these new bars and stem?
ive ran 10s and 11s, and had no problems with bars slipping. i dont go very big while riding mind, plus theyre s&m bars and the tubing is super thick

"eclat being the innovators that they are" hahahahaha, very innovative offering someone a job so they can big you up on your product blog

The larger OD the tubing, the more it resists bending and twisting, but the more likely it is to be dented or crushed

It'll be subjective though.

What will?
-
My favorite bar ever was the complete opposite. I rode a KHE Phil Dohlan 9" aluminium bar for light street (held up for years) and it had 1" grip area and 7/8 stem diameter. It started slipping when the knurling went away so couldnt ride them anymore
-
What will?
it

it
Beat me to it, whatever it is.
-
Eytol is indeed the child of kings rideshop.
-
Just cracked my Eclat forks so I don't think this appeals to me. However another company making limited run frames is pretty cool. I think S&M is making them but I am not sure. King's is one of those staple shops so big ups to them to keeping the scene moving.
-
Is eclat the new shadow con?
-
they're image is clean, so i'd say no.
-
I just noticed odyssey pulled a Primo and let chase hawk go...who drops chase hawk . Wow is the industry that bad financially?
-
maybe cult want him to run all their stuff now, hes already got signature cranks with them now
-

wtf i thought you were wrong, but he's not up on the team page. this has to be some sort of a mistake, he was just in their video?
i'm holding back judgement until we know more but i'd be shocked if this was true.

sounds a bit like a dick move from odyssey, as long as hes running the parts he will be getting notice whoever hes filming for
-
Damn, I see Hawk footage all the time. Hard to understand him not putting in work.
-
Damn, with that Etnies video in the works you know Hawk is going to be getting even more coverage soon. Wonder what they'll do with their insanely popular tyres with his name on them?
-
Discontinued in favor of Dugans which aren't too different.
-

They're not to different but haven't struck a chord the same way. Couldn't be even nearly as popular.
-
Pretty bold move to drop who is arguably the best rider in the world. No one has the mix of talent, style and big moves that Hawk has.
-
They also dropped sexton aswell
-
Isn't the clutch Sexton's signature part?
That new video is 30 years but all I saw was a bunch of new blood, besides Gary Young.
Either Odyssey isn't turning profits and they have to hemorrhage their dudes or there is some bad shit going on.
-
there was an explaination on odysseys insta
https://www.instagram.com/odysseybmx/ (https://www.instagram.com/odysseybmx/)
Every single one of us at Odyssey couldn't be more bummed that Chase Hawk and Sean Sexton are no longer part of the Odyssey team. Nobody wanted this, and it's one of the hardest things we've ever had to do as a company or as individuals. But what it came down to is Odyssey was more down for Chase and Sean than they were for Odyssey. They wouldn't come on our trips, they wouldn't come out riding with us at home, and when we could get them to hang out with us, it wasn't hard to tell they'd rather be somewhere else. That kind of attitude can bring down a session or a trip worse than anything. Supporting guys who don't support us has been really tough.
Every single other rider on our team is 100% down for Odyssey and down for their friends on the team, and it only makes sense to put everything we've got behind the guys who truly love Odyssey and are stoked on what we're doing. We wish more than anything that Chase and Sean were down, but sadly they've shown us for a long time now that they're not, and something had to give. It's tragic things have unfolded this way, I hope once the smoke clears we can all be friends again.
some of the comments are lols

i kinda had the same feeling watching that video - i was a bit bummed that sexton only had like 3 clips in it?
reading the statement from odysseys instagram, its pretty clear why he does not have more clips - if u dont ride/come on trips you wont get any footage with your sponsors filming crew.
on the other hand its good to see gary still having fun and trying different things. i really dont get to see many new bmxvideos besides webedits - the 30years video is great , but i still miss the vibe first 3 videos.
-
It's probably about as signature as 'I like coasters' 'oh we're making one'
-
I bet there was some level of involvement. But seeing how Odyssey have G and a product developing team I doubt that a single "just" pro-rider had any serious design input
-
Isn't the clutch just the gcoaster calmed down a bit so manufacturers can actually produce it?
Sucks tho, breaking up is hard to do.

gary young is great. even if he takes his brake off and runs a coaster, he still has such a unique style and eye for lines. aaron rosses section was good too, he can ride a coaster well, but then he was super good at fakie stuff on a cassette. coaster lets him be way more creative though, i was done with seeing uprails to whips and goofy 360s from him
-
I never cared for Aaron Ross' riding. Gary young obviously had an amazing part, but the whole video felt too 'young bloods' for me. I understand the team needs to get updated but dropping your OGs and focusing on people that are not yet associated with Odyssey makes me feel like there's nothing behind the brand.
I might be an idiot but this actually makes me reconsider buying the Clutch. Odsy had the best combination of team and products; the products are still good, but it just looks like another trend chasing soulless company to me now.

That's bullshit, did you actually read the post explaining why they got dropped?
You should watch the come up/ oddy interview.
-
All the sample proto parts from years past that otxdesign posted on insta are worth a look.

yeah i read it. it still looks kinda disloyal to me, but i haven't watched the interview yet. what's your take on the situation?

that proto gcoaster is lols, super hi flange

It appears the love wasn't returned and oddy gave it as long as they could.
So recommend the interview tho, long but totally worth it.
-
Probably had something to do with them both being in Austin and away from the rest of the odsy team out west
-
Odyssey has an Austin office...
-
Chase hawk is blowing up winning x games, loads of sig products ,coverage etc chase wanted more money odyssey couldn't deliver
-
I don't believe odyssey. Especially them being in the same city as both. There might be truth in what they said but as for the real reason? I highly doubt it, especially in comparison to other dudes on other teams who don't put out shit for anything but still have signature parts and are always on a companies roster.
-

so take the parts you run from oddy and from the rest just take their money and rock their stickers aswell?
-
i don't have any insider knowledge, but i'd wager odyssey felt they could pick up 2-3 potential future stars ('the common crew') for the price of chase or sean alone. i'm sure the young guys are hungry as fuck and in comparison chase and sean started to look less dedicated.
i doubt they gave them 'as long as they could' though, otherwise they wouldn't have been so flabbergasted by getting the boot https://www.instagram.com/p/_cAxOXytxd/?taken-by=chase_hawk .
it's a massive fucking miscalculation imho and makes odyssey look the worst it's ever looked in my eyes. hawk and sexton are essentially worldwide stars in bmx and have their own styles, the new dudes have all the tricks, but you could switch one out for the other and hardly notice the difference. at this point odyssey lends them more legitimacy than they do to the brand.
-
Oh the melodrama
-
i don't have any insider knowledge, but i'd wager
Neither do I. I'd wager that it was to do with a bizarre love triangle, not so much business. Think Brokeback Mountain but with bmx bikes instead of cows or whatever they were meant to be looking after when they were busy slamming eachother in the tent. Good movie.

If any of you cry babies are selling your Odyssey parts now, I will buy.

Like new hawk tire 2.4 $28743865 shipped
-
Bit of a shame, not going to put me off buying Odyssey parts but as all my stuff is already from them I don't really need to ever get replacements.
-
I feel callous saying it like this, but I'm glad Hawk is off the team. He's an awesome rider, but I never thought he represented the company well. When I'd see him in an edit, I was just kind of like, "Oh yeah, he's an Odyssey rider." Hopefully letting him move on will freshen up the place.
