Howdy folks,
I've got a Fairdale Parser Express that I really like but I'm toying with the idea of getting some gears for mack's speed. Anyone put gears on a bike with 120mm spacing? I've seen a this kit http://www.fyxation.com/products/six-fyx-conversion-kit (http://www.fyxation.com/products/six-fyx-conversion-kit) and it is affordable but 1- it might be shit and 2- dropout converter thing might be a no go with the thick dropouts on the Fairdale. I've heard internal gear hubs like Alfine 8 speed are good and there are shifters available for drop bars, problem is they are spaced to 135mm and weigh a ton. Any ideas before n+1 comes into play?

Internal hub gear would be a good way to go, they make them in all kinds of widths. Can you live with just putting the shifter on the top of the bars?

i was looking at FSA Metropolis 2 speed crankset.

Might be cool in conjunction with 2 or 3 speed rear hub.
i saw a place in the uk had it for 80 squids.

Metropolis seems like a cool idea. You could build a pretty weatherproof bike with all the internal gear stuff. Looking at the price of the stuff I might just go with n+1 (used). My brother lent me one of his spare bikes with gears that I'm trying out at the moment. I'll see how that goes for me. It is a Time carbon dealio that I will never be able to afford. Pretty funny riding Fly Ruben PC pedals on this setup.
