Hey guys sorry for another plastic thread.
seemed like earlier noone had really run them long enough to know for sure.
what do you guys think? has anyone tried out a few brands?
hows the buttchers? thanks.
-
i got a cult one cos it was the cheapest and came with an extra sleeve. its on front left though which is my least used peg so its barely been touched.
most of them are pretty similar i reckon so probs go with whichever the cheapest one with a full length inner is, and/or you can get spares for.
from what ive seen, they dont last that long on the back if youre a heavy grinder. if you only grind skatepark coping, any should last a good while, depends how you ride really
-
im by no means a crazy go for broke unwaxed feebs grinder.
cult butter, eh?
im curious - i just dropped hella quid on some s&m steel guards which i would like to keep running...cause they're dope.
it seems like butters are the narrowest diameter, too. i'm thinking that if i throws on a thicker peg its going to create a lip.
maybe someone has experience here?
(plastics w/ s&m guards)
trying to figure out which peg will make a flush seam without lip.
how is it running steel guards wit plastics? in theory it will be dope, lock into steel guards on rails and slide on the plastic ends for ledges.
maybe my numbers are off, tho. might just be super unpredictable, or make no difference at all. haha.
anyone know how this goes?
-
Plegs man.
They hold up great, and replacment sleeves are slightly more expensive than a pack of cigs.
I'm all about plastics because (1) They are slicker than greased moose poop on about everything (however, the Plegs at least wear pretty quick on unwaxed concrete) (2) they are lighter, if you care about that (3) they hurt less if you get hit by one (4) skateparks are more likely to let you ride with them, and skaters talk less shit and finally (4) I'm getting older, and I personally don't want to damage the shit I ride.
-
i think 2 thick 4 me?
also, lol, i cant stand the 3/4th inner piece.
but yeah, mang. so dope.stealth ass ninja assasin.
wit steel guards for hessian sound effects

They are right around 1.5", which is in line with most plastics and some steels.
I should clarify that I mostly ride skatepark (i.e., coping). Most of the wear I see is on the outside whre I lean over too much and hit concrete.
-
just found this setup - exactly the lip im looking to avoid.
& i hate that 3/4ts bit. as you said, end of the shell is going to turn into a dagger looking to cut me deep the first chance it gets.

This is the best pic I have of the pegs on my bike. I don't know what bike you have, but I think my dropouts are maybe a little bigger than most dropouts. They are definately slightly bigger than my ATF dropouts were, but the distance from the bottom of the dropout to the axle was about the same.
-
thanks for your time, boys - i appreciate it. just got this one snapped. it hits perfect, i thinkkkk its an fbm peg and with a ruler i get like 35mm flush.

of course they dont make butter pegs (35mm) or federal (34mm) in long versions.
4.5" peg hitting at 35mm? damn.
-
I have had a couple of plastic pegs in my Days, but mostly odd versions you probably wont consider...
I had the plegs V.1. and while I felt that they lasted OK at best I felt that they were too slow on most materials. I also had the Primo pegs but felt that they were way too short and have since moved on to the Animals.
The Butchers long are good in my opinion, maybe wear a bit quickly, but ok. I understand that you want thin pegs, but you should also consider that it might limit the life span of your pegs considerably. In general a large contact area is preferable for your plastic pegs to avoid rapid wear. so a thick plastic peg would not wear in such a long time.
If you still insist on small diameter plastic pegs I would just get the Stolen thermolites or similar knock-offs. Myself and a lot of my friends have ridden knock-offs from random normal bike stores that sell them for nothing and they work well.
-
hrm. true, but i think with the cults and federals they've made the chromo core smaller? maybe im mistaken.
i would love to run animal, cuz animal makes me feel alright with the choices ive made in my life, but with the sleeve its going to have a lip :(
i'm open to off brands. :) i'll check out the stolens, thanks for your time.
edit: also, i kind of solved my own dilemma in this thread. haha.
looking for a 35mm (w/sleeve) 4.5" combo, w/ full length chromo core.
-
ahhh, i get you. the contact area. i see what you're saying.
but dat lip :(

Quoted for dat ass.

Man, I thought I was the only one!
I really just want to ride and do the same tricks and stuff without marking things up as bad. That way if the cops show up, it's less likely I'll get in trouble or go to jail.
-
TERREEEE!!!! Hell yeah.
-
i dont hang up on smiths cuase of plastics, so worth it.
-
You should consider the éclat Venom pegs. They are 36mm in diameter and come in 4.5" length. I heard the plastic the sleeves are made of are pretty long lasting, too.
-
TERREEEE!!!! Hell yeah.
yooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo homie!!!!!!!!
took me half a year to get back to MTL and pick up your box but i did - thanks again! the stem is great and stickers are so so dope. cant wait to run that hubguard.

you are a gentleman and a scholar. hats off to you sir!
edit: bah, eclat site says 38mm.
but it's so so dialed if it hits flush tho :(
i bet cult/fed will come out with a long version soon enough.
looks like fly came out with a slim 35mm peg too. only 100mm tho.
-
i wouldnt worry too much about getting them flush to start with cos as soon as you start grinding them and wearing them down, they will get flatspots and then they wont be flush anymore and your dropouts and hubguards might snag. better off going with a slightly larger diameter to allow for them wearing down
-
THIS ^^^^^ is why i keep you guys around!!!!!! your foreskin amazes me.
...foresight, i mean!
so, i think eclat venom is a good median. 38 being pretty dece? 3mm to wear it down even? should about do it...
-
my foreskin amazes me as well.
to be honest id try match the diameter of the inner of the peg to your hub guard, or have it only slightly smaller. depends if youre going to be on top of rotating the sleeves or just wait til theyve ground through to spin them around
-
i've been running plastic pegs since about june 2014. i bought a set of 4 primo binary plastics, like 4.25 long, i know they make 4.5 long pegs which i regret not buying but they weren't available at the time. they come with an extra sleeve per peg. since i bought the pegs, i haven't broken or cracked a sleeve, which is always a good thing because i pretty much spend the majority of my time riding grinding stuff. i have yet to wear through the plastic and get to the aluminum core, but i do rotate my pegs putting my backs in the front and the fronts in the back. so i've successfully owned a set of 4 plastic pegs and by rotating them maybe 3 times i've had them last over 6 months. hopefully this helps. i'm thinking about ordering another set of 4 sleeves and replacing my current sleeves in the next month or two.
-
man. maybe i should just get a different hub guard. lol.
that grinding down thing just ruined my whole days work.
-
also ive snapped two during smiths, but i just dont think about it
wouldnt think about running a pleg in the rear, tho.
-
I run a S&M cymbal guard with animal pegs and like it. I previously had a BSD (Alone?) plastic guard that was flush.
I prefer not flush as it doesnt touch all the time when I grind. Remember, a hub guard is designed to protect your hub, not necessarily to be grinded on.
-
party on Garth, does it look trash?
could i ask you for a photo?
bsd makes nice shit. the

might be the only way to avoid mickey mouse style. (for plastics).
lol, and i know in theory i should spend my time on the pegs but really i just hang out wit my guards out.
-
I just realised that I actually went back to my Ratchet Cassette hub that I cant use my Cymbal on (I think)!
I actually use the inner aluminum core from the BSD guard, as the plastic broke and I cant find a replacement
-
does that plastic guard hold up? i know a homie had the animal PYN guard and it snapped almost immediately. all brittle and shit.
the primo snap on ones seemed alright.
and yeah - when i had the ratchet i couldn't run the cymbal on it.
i mean, i could - but it wasn't pretty.
tryin'a gape my dropouts like it was belladonna youknowwhatimsayin
-
I run BSD front and rear and they look almost new. Mind you, I am not hard on my bike and ride 99 % bowl and vert.
My rear plastic guard looks brand new but for some reason slows the hub down when its installed even though I cant see it rubbing...
I thus ride only the inner. I switched to the cymbal guard on my freecoaster as using a aluminium one made me have to hire Hulk Hogan each time I had to take the Wheel apart. I had to spread the dropouts out more than [insert any pornstar's name] to make it fit.
-
who the fuck rides vert?
-
Me and a couple of friends. Copenhagen have two great vert ramps!
Most kids/guys ride street though. I absolutely hate street and havent ridden street in a couple of years though...

I have the BSD, and it seems OK.
I really don't ride a whole ton of street though. I modtly only grind coping and waxed boxes at parks.

lol simon tabron and jamie bestwick?
thats sick man. hope you rock da fullface! respect.
-
It might not meet your flush requirements but I think the PLEG2 looks like it's had the previous issues ironed out. I actually think I inquired with Ken @ Zodiac about turning out a longer aluminium core for the PLEG1, but it wasn't feasible. Now the ODSY gods have made it so.

was googling "fit wizard sleeve reviews" and came across this gem.
crazy clark, you so crazy...
Vitalbmx Member: crazyclark:"make your own peg sleeves dude. take a soda can and cut off the ends. cut across the can from one end to the other and wrap it snug around the peg. you can cut off the excess soda can or just leave it wrapped around. duct tape the can together and there you go. slides right on and off"
lol. the argument only gets better...

I only heard good things about them. And they are long, another plus.
-
Pleg 2's have a smaller diameter than the originals.
-
does anyone know how the ECLAT Venom's are? I w0ouldnt mind a 4.5" p[air.,
