So bike parts are pretty good these days generally, but some are still heinous looking, especially now that everyones so street and not building their bikes to achieve more forum comments (well not outside of the dark blue sphere anyway). So post some modern bike parts that are disgusting looking for my amusement, and so we can all be snobby
powerbites were never the most svelte cranks, but somehow the weird abomnation that primo is nowadays managed to make them worse looking, and less practical (2pc is sooooo 2012)
Equally, not content with their "optimus prime's penis" onyx cranks, eclat also apparently felt the need to make their cranks look even worse as well
(http://www.usports.ru/usp/products/63-014300.jpg)
Personally, i can get on board with coloured tyres, if the colour is right and it works with the rest of the bike, but this is getting stupid now
(http://www.sourcebmx.com/Images/Models/Original/29093.jpg)
post more heinous shit
-
I know those tires are ugly as shit but I drove past a bunch of kids with coasters and those Stevie tires. This seems to sell I mean the parts I grew up on we're rank but I guess it's got to come around every generation, and yes those cranks are a bastard of the once glorious power bites

Some ugly parts look good on a bike.
-
yes to those 3 stems and directors. i quite like the elementary stem, i guess cos its an interesting design. does odyssey still make those? was such a big deal when it came out lol
-
I always liked the elementary, looked good on a bike.
-
Any modern 4-piece bar.
-
Directors look rad fuck you guys.
To lazy to find a pic but that linkon stem or what ever it was called that odyssey released awhile back
-
Any modern 4-piece bar.
for real.....they look like giant boxes....i like 4pc bars that get really narrow like the odyssey 4x4 bars
-

not this build in particular (wich is quite nice, actually) but the wtf literally made me think wtf...
why reinvent the wheel to make it as pointless as possible?

plus: any gyro and the odyssey convertible post. as much as the idea is very good and i bought and rode one for quite a while it was never really a beauty.
-
Fat seats.
-
Any 1 piece seat/post. It just looks so cheap.

upside down this thin geally does look very nice.
i also allways thought of it as being ugly!
-
Any modern 4-piece bar.
for real.....they look like giant boxes....i like 4pc bars that get really narrow like the odyssey 4x4 bars
i always thought the 4x4s were too wide at the top for how narrow they were at the bottom, looked proper 90s though which was the point i guess. i prefer the bonedeths, but the bobs are the best looking 4pc.
11z do look stupid even though ive got 2 pairs. someone bring out a 10" high bar with a narrow box for old tall people plz

hit up Dylan @ WE bicycles....its flatland oriented but I'm sure he could make you bars that would suit you
-
Rasta stuff, any parts or clothes with weed leaves on, white parts (made this mistake), any parts that aren't black, raw, red or British racing green, nine piece bars with a really skinny box, coloured pegs, leopard print seats, stem stackers on top of a stem.
-
anything odyssey with the names of ross or hawk on it.
this sprocket. who would even dare? id rather run a poverty penny sprocket
(http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l195/joelite44/CDOD12709.jpg)
-
Quite like that sprocket personally, and dont think my tomahawk stem is bad looking atall.

i know it has an old school touch. i just dont like the silver linings on it and the teeth shape.
i may think odyssey has gone a long way down just like some other brands. They should focus on making 3 different types of brake lever front and rear and cheap u brakes for the sunday bikes.

I really really really hate the look of these new 2.4 or above tires. It just looks ridiculous. Why do you need bigger tires for softer landings when you know damn well that the majority of your spot is a foot tall ledge.
-
Agreed. If you need softer landings than "2.25 at 50psi then you're doing something wrong.
-
i like both of those odyssey sprockets. the chainwheel was cool, and the hawk one looks better in non bronze. wouldnt run either though simply cos i dont trust myself without a bashguard
-
I think my St Martin frame looks goofy but here I am prying back together again. ...I'll never escape it lol.
Crazy flatland frames are ugly
-
still waiting to see a nice looking coaster , bars bigger than 8.5 that aint ugly?
-
The Merritt Merritt stem has grown on me which is probably why i got it. In pics it looks weird. Up close not nearly as bad as it seems.
As for 4pc bars the gabe brooks bars look about right. They arent super wide and the box is narrow because of it.
I dont think 10" bars will ever loom good.
Sadly i like the primo cranks, a part of me still loves the shit they make.
Most tripod seats are ugly especialy mutiny's seats. Just cant get with that banana shape.

The ugliness of the MTT tires pales in comparison to the ugliness of the Vans/Cult waffle tire.

Absolutely 2 for 1 in this image

Shouldn't that wheel be cross laced?
-
I wonder if the failure of both the MTT and the BPE led to the current state of Animal (i.e. seemingly dormant).

Good point
The tire mold alone is like $20,000?
And they put a lot of R&D into those pedals which surely wasn't cheap
-
I remember reading an interview with the guy who designed that tyre. I remember thinking that it looked so cool.
Then when I finally saw it on some street kids bike I though that it was waaaaay too big for anyone to seriously ride.
Surely enough the kid was off it within a few weeks
-
tripod seats and coloured tyres are the worst offenders
-
The mtt would have been nice if it was a 2.25 not whatever size it was as well as the 2.1.
I hope animal is just redoing the line. And not out for good. Social media would suggest theyre finished, but the addition of new riders suggest otherwise.
-
they should have sticked with the old tires they've made. the asm and the glh used to be such good tires and today would still be. sadly no chance of getting your hands on those.
maybe a bigger version like 2.25 of the asm for the street kids and they're good to go.
this mtt is the most rediculous shit i've seen in a long time
-
mtt is a prime offender, it could be improved dramatically if the tread was shallower i think
-
Lincoln stems look rad, fuck you :P

That looks goooood with the sunken topcap, Spev!
I think it can be kind of limiting to take view of a single style or sensibility towards what is a good looking or bad looking part. From where I'm sitting, the super generic and typical parts are ugly. So then everybody ends up making near-clones to satisfy the hive mind, that's not a world I want to live in.
That being said I own an Elementary, a Lincoln, Director and a convertable post. And I like em'.
-
all this hate for the mtt, i love mine , had 3 now , 2 2.35 or what ever they was befor i went back to brakes now running the smaller 2.1 on the front , never failed me,unlike the green glh's hahahaha!
-

landing flat is now a style

what's with the base of that peg?? it almost looks like the owner has a 5" peg and think "hmmmmph this is not long enough, i need extenders"
-
Shouldn't that wheel be cross laced?
Yehp. I've seen a couple of these rims laced up wrong like this...
You can see from this picture how much angle it puts on the spoke near the nipple when it's laced wrong.

Yes. Even the mountainbike industry learned that anything bigger than 2,3" (maybe 2,5" for the worst downhill tracks) is quite useless. And while they now fancy tanwalls and fatbikes, BMX is now jumping on the 2,6" gazzaloddi train and makes it even worse with that fuckin colours.

Who is making 2.6 tires? I need to see pics of the monstrosities.

I guess there's no 2,6 yet, but it was mentioned several times that Subrosas Dirtdigger inflated to about 2,5. Even that 2,4 tires out there look huge.
-
I saw a walmart mongoose that had 2.65 knobby tires.
I shit you not.

What the hell are you talking about? MTB tyres are still growing. Fat bikes? 27+, 29+, Boost standard? Any of these things mean anything to you?

Some ugly parts look good on a bike.
Form following function ≠ ugly. Both of those are beautiful, and make other stems and forks look heavy and dumb.
I'm biased though, I just put a brand new pair of directors and a brand new elementary V3 on my bike.
