They are supposed to drop soon and seem pretty good. I've never been a freecoaster guy but I feel like I want to make a change. Their design seems solid.
-
Please elaborate on how solid their design is, I have yet to see any details or internal pictures.
-
If it's not working right, can I fix it by putting the hub in the freezer overnight? Confirm/Deny

Boggles the mind that they can't make front hubs properly, let alone a cassette, and yet they try their hand at a coaster
-
History has proven getting first run of a new coaster is never a good idea.
-
Coaster release dates are the most uncertain thing in the universe. Dont believe it to be released in this decade.
-
its made in the USA, pretty cool if you ask me. How many are actually made in north america?

^ This.
I haven't had any bad luck with Profile, but I'll be waiting for someone else to buy one in my area and see what happens before I make a decision. I was told the later batches would have a 10t driver option as well, so I'd probably be stuck waiting anyway.
-
wobble, driver bearings, detachable flanges.
spares will also be 4x the cost of equivalent yuhub parts, jus sayin
-
I think I might buy one. I have to admit my curiosity has got the best of me.

The thing here is however that Profile make the coaster in house. So the risk of them shipping out mass-produced coasters with a small flaw is minimized.
Could still have some production flaw, but the risk is probably way smaller than from companies working with taiwanese factories

We are talking about Profile here.

out of the 4 profile cassettes ive had only one of them didn't need to be shimmed to all hell. there hubs are crap. and they cant measure.
-
I always imagine profile as being the pinnacle of BMX product quality. I have myself only had the race cranks, which bends quite easily I guess...
Also had a friend on the Porter Ti sprocket that just randomly exploded.
-
Their quality is mediocre at best. I've seen atleast a dozen pairs of snapped/cracked profile cranks. They price their product high because it's made in the us, and people eat it up because it the "best". The ont thing they have made worthwhile IMO were the gas pedals.
-
Off topic I know but the SS front hubs where they as bad as the mini's tolerance wise?
-
I have owned 3 mini sets and 2 totems sets, they all developed wobble in the rear and maybe 1 or 2 for the front, tolerances are horrible, last set of totems I fixed the issue no wobble and no need for shims, but still for a company that has full control of production on each part it's pretty fucking crazy that the tolerances are off on their hubs.

ive got an ss rear which is smooth with no wobble (yet), i dont ride it much though, its on my second bike
-
This thing is probably going to cost you your first born.
-
gas pedals.
RIP

A few years ago when your only options were Profile stuff or those shit Odyssey V1 hubs and Primo Powerbites then yeah, maybe Profile was better. Now everything has gotten loads better and Profile stuff just hasn't changed in years. There really is no reason to buy their shit any more.
-
the old odyssey cassettes were great, even when they broke they were cheap as to repair. the vandero fronts sucked though, their front hubs peaked at the hazzard
-
Gotta agree, I ran two V1s and I know of a few others that are still going strong.
-
v2 hazard lite hubs were some of the best for the money with out a doubt. id still ride a v2 and a vandero if I could find a decent one.
-
It's not totally fair to include hubs that were solid and THEN developed wobble after some riding UNLESS you know absolutely sure that your dropouts are parallel at the OLD
Dropouts that are not parallel when the wheel is done up will cause wobble in most hubs unless they have beastly axles eg: Gsport

If I ride a hub hard for months I can accept that it develops some wobble. But after several days of riding. Absolutely not. I've seen brand new ones wobble. They just have shit tolerances. And their warranty is fucking awful.

I dunno about great. Pretty much the only alternative to Profile at the time and Profile were definitely better back then. Maybe. Rose tinted glasses and all that.
-
depends what quantifies great for you.
it engaged when i pedalled, it was lhd, and when i snapped the axle it was a 5er to get a new one. only bad thing was those old style drivers with switchable cogs-i blew one of the cogs up when i smashed it on an opposite feeble. it was a lot better than the eastern complete hub i had before that though
